Is there a limit to human endurance?
I have just witnessed a miracle. A tennis game at Wimbledon between Nicolas Mahut and John Isner went on for 9hrs 58mins and was stopped because of "lack of light". That's right a non-stop tennis game went on for TEN FRICKING HOURS and didn't even end! The last set stopped at the unbelievable score of 59-59. I have no idea how people expect them to get up tomorrow in order to continue their match. I've witnessed the last hour or so of the match and what's even more incredibly that after all that they still played tennis! Not exceptional tennis, but still they were moving around, sometimes even attempting to run and the game was quite interesting to watch.
All of this made me wonder - are these people cyborgs or something? Because there's no way a human body can go on for ten hours like that. I've seen main movie character do some unrealistic sh*t in my life, but all that pales before the will those to showed us today.
Nicolas Mahut and John Isner, I salute you! (and ask you not to pulverize me with the lasers hidden on your robotic bodies)

tennis players are probably the most fit athletes, on average.
I supposed anything can be indured when you put you're mind to it... except going mudwrestling with chuck norris, however, that will totally break you.

I especially liked how Mahut still had the strength to leap forward trying to get the ball several times.

Mind vs Pain. In theory you can keep going until your body collapses from shock, which for me would have been at the 3 hour mark.

I know, but I would think the shock comes much sooner than 10 hours. Either that or that muscles just tear apart.

I heard that one guy broke a record by playing piano for 80+ hours non stop. But no one asked how it sounded. Same here, due to bad tennis skills both can't conclude a point, so it takes forever. I am sorry for the arbiter.

Well, it finally ended with the unbelievable score of 70-68. I doubt that this record will be broken any time soon.

No, I'm not. I'm too smart to waste my time crawling in the dirt.
And I don't care what you say, I doubt that even well-trained soldiers can keep up a good game of tennis for ten straight hours. (provided they know how to play tennis at all)

You really think so Elvin? lol. Tennis players are constantly moving, constantly using up energy and hitting the ball and everything. You have to be extremely fit (obviously) to be able to do that constantly and I am sure as hell that nobody on this forum could play in such a way as they did.

So? You both have a point. It is true that tennis players are trained to hit hard and run up and down the pitch (or whatever it's called) but everyone can do so, with the propper amount of training.
None of us can do that at this point, without question. But all of us can do it with, as I said earlier, with the propper amount of training and technique.

I think that it will last pretty long time seeing it was quite the unexpected outcome. Funny thing I just discussed tennis rules with a friend of mine two days ago. I didn't even know how they counted the points. First thing I thought after hearing it was:
"Why make them need that big of a margin to win?"
And the next day they do that match.
Talk about coincidences.
They tend to train those not crawling in the dirt harder so you can teach others crawl in the dirt and still look smug beside them like it is nothing to you. As it really isn't since you've already crawled in the dirt twice as much as they have.
If you teach me to play tennis Will I'll do that. I played a lot of badminton when I was younger and it wasn't strange for us to play 4 or 5 hours.
I play beachvolley a lot and we tend to play as long as we can. In terms of movement on the field it is pretty close to tennis or badminton. 5 to 6 hour game days aren't unheard of.
Heck, there's a heavily obese(I quess 165 tall weights 90) guy at the place I work and he tends to play four hours of tennis like nothing.
Then I also have walked 16 hours straight with a 50kg backpack and an assault rifle making 6 km/h in the woods.
And I've biked for 14 hours straight making 320 km in that time.
And I've skiied 18 hours straight in the woods with light backbag making 100km in that.
I've also biked for 7 days, sleeping 8 hours and eating in the between making a little under 1300km in that.
So, you were saying I was bragging?
Those what I've done, or what they've done on the tennis field aren't even close to what human body can do. You can triple that time on the tennis field and they still could have played. I'm not saying they wouldn't have been hurt while doing so, on the contrary, they would have been hurting very, very much, but they could have still played tennis. Of course after they had slept after that I'm not confident they could have been able to get out of bed on their own.
