Recently i found out a method to get the pictures , from homm5 editor, having the native homm3 color background for pictures (code color 00ffff)using this guide here

Practically i replaced "snow.dds file" in Homm5 /bin2/data/data.pak
with a modified file filled with the specified color (00ffff)
Now every pictures i take with print screen needs to be resized only .

Nice for a begginer,but golden gladiator is not too golden,try to use replace color and find the good color.

I named him golden gladiator for his golden sword...etc.

Edit: I will train to make Skeleton Archer an some new creatures

no that,isn't a pure yellow,it's more green,put lightness at green to +100

Nice,I see you have talent.The gladiator is much better,your first animation is good and smooth,but how about change the color,simple select from Image->Adjtements->Hue and Saturation and select red from the list, and change hue until his green,at gorgon rider use also hue and saturation,change saturation to find good colors.

If you read the guide PART 1,you will see there wrote:

ok, i got the frames for the animation. but when i put them in DEFmaker and click on "Create def file". the program stop makeing the file and doesn't response.

I am sorry if I am putting this in the wrong thread, but it seems closest to my question and I don't want to spam with a new one for such a trivial question.

Does anyone have the Dracolich def? I have Quicksilver and it seems I've lost the def, I'd like to replace another creature with it though. If it isn't available, I guess I will just use the bone dragon def over the lich.

A big thank you for all the wonderful defs around (you guys know who you are, this is for you!), took a while to find out how to import them and I probably messed my entire H3sprite.lod beyond repairable, but it's looking more and more the way I'd like it to. I'll only have to dig some more to find how exactly I can edit creatures' abilities fully, but I know it is here somewhere, a matter of time and effort.

Edit: I found it, recovered from an old backup of my data folder which I had forgotten I made. Don't bother, seems I can handle it myself Let's see if I can make it work without removing the storm birds.

Again at service,this time with somethink interesting.

PART FIVE:FROM GIF TO A DEF
I'm sure you saw a creature/building etc. who are just gifs not defs and you wanted to have it.With this tutorial you can easy transform gif in bmp and bmp to defs.

1.The programs

We need just one free program to extract gifs:
-Photoscape
-and for framesaint/Photoshop/Gimp

2.Chose your traget

Let's say we want to make trashid dino rider,I think it's quite interesting,but no def,just gif.


3.Open Photoscape
Open Photoscape and select Gif animator from the images.

Now select hunter file and after press the square button:

Select first image from frames list and press the button with two pages on it:


4.Open Paint/Photoshop/Gimp
Any program can be used,but with paint is the most simple.Make the page smaller than photo and paste:

Now modify the bar in the top(in this case):

Make all frames after the model and make the def.

Create/Mod my own creature ..?!

well i have 2 questions ?!
1. where i find the creatures "pictures" i couldnt find them anywhere.
i have the prog's u said i will need...
2. when u mention animation then do i need to make every step of the animation i want in photoshop"?!
or there is a program associated with the animation process ?!

All creatures defs are in h3sprite.lod which must be open with ResEdit/MMarchive,extract them in any folder you want.You can open them with DefViewer.

In DefViewer,there is a button [Extract Image],in photoshop (if you want to make a hybrid) edit parts of several creatures merging them into one creature.After making all images for animation,open DefTool and build the def.

After playing HOMM3 for years I heard about WoG and downloaded it. I love most of the new stuff, especially the Commanders, but my beef with some is their horrible colours.

Now I don't want to make a new creature from scratch, I just want to alter stuff like the Brute commanders outfit (horrible gray/blue to something like black).

I read most of the tutorials here and fiddled with the ResEdit a bit (and have AP7) but all I could find squinting through the catalogue was .defs for the basic creatures but not commanders.

So my question is, where can I find the Commander files to change?
And looking at the tutorials I didn't understand how changing an existing creature would work. Do I still need to create a whole NEW Brute commander creature if I want it to have new colours?

Summarizing the guides:
- Extract proper file from ResEdit. Is this proper file some .bmp or are they all .defs? Do I need all .defs from a creature extracted (when not creating a whole new one)
- Open extracted files in Def Preview. Open the files from there with AP7
(My problem is most guides really start at this point when I can't even do the above starting phases)
- Change colours like shown in the guides for a frame and get the palette rebalanced and changes saved
- Apply changes for other frames by loading saved palette onto each frame (again back to previous parts I don't know what all the other frames are supposed to be exactly)
- Save the new frames into a working def/defs thus effectively creating a new creature? How do I make this THE Brute in the game?
