Not really. Early firearms had really slow reloading times, longbows were still very effective.

You could balance the firearm-using units by increasing their damage but reducing their initiative in comparison to the more traditional ranged units.

That's ECACTLY what I was thinking about.
And note, that aside from extremely slow reloading time, the early firearms'...
-range was very short, even a shortbow could shoot farther. So, longbows were superior to early firearms.
-accuracy was pretty much nonexsistent. They were very inaccurate, completely random. So, crossbows were superior to early firearms.
However, altrough they had very slow reloading times, had short range and random accuracy, they had something that the longbows and crossbows didn't: very very strong power.

8 creature tiers with 5 creatures a level, that's a lot of creatures. Are you adding abilites for every upgrade, or just stats?

Cool names are one thing, and stats are fundamental to the gameplay I guess, but what really makes a creature interesting is its abilities.

Hmm... if we discount the unupgraded tiers' abilities (as abilities are most often added on upgrades) that adds to about 128 abilities.

Now if you manage to create that many unique abilities I will be thoroughly impressed

Personally I'd go for less creatures... having that many would stretch my imagination 'til my brain fried...

I agree with adrius. THe abilities, imo, are even more important to give than the stats, for which a general direction is, in such a short proposal, which can't be tested on balance, additionally, even better.I mean whene you jsut say: strong att+def, medium HP+dam, low speed+Ini...

as for the gunpowder weapons. I have no problem with that unless it becomes too much or gets too advanced...

ACtualy, I highly doubt you'll consider theese too advanced:

Theese had very slow rate of fire, only fire shoot per a minute. They very strong, but very short ranged and inaccurate.
Their main purpose was not to kill, but to terrify the enemy, scare the **** out of them, lower their morale, you know...

Well I like ur addition of fire-arms and I love the names.  My only concern would be having to buy two upgrades.  It would be almost impossible to actually complete building a castle.  That is why I thought that 2nd upgrade based on stack expierence would be a better idea and change your strategy a bit.

I agree. Like, you can choose beetwen upgrade A or B, however, the next upgrade will be based on the experience. Earn enough experience - get the second upgrade.

Wouldn't Heroes be kind of laggy from all those images? With 40 creatures in all per faction x 8 or 320 creature images? Of course, I could be wrong. I'm not a computer expert.

I like the list so far, as well. Btw, Haven's on it twice. What's the new shooter in Academy?

Here's an idea. You have three shooters in Haven in the list. The new one ocould be geared like the skeleton upgrades. Gun and melee modes.

Waiting for the Bad Guys
