1. Bron - Starting with 4-7 Basilisks on day one definitely helps early creeping. Plus, he's a beastmaster, so he'll get useful skills down the road.
2. Loynis - While Loynis is a weak Hero, I always had a soft spot for him. Basically because Prayer is my favorite spell in the game, and it can absolutely wreak havoc if cast on Expert Level AND on the native terrain. (and Grassland is pretty common). As a secondary hero, have him learn Scholar, and teach the Prayer spell to any hero with adv. Wisdom you own.
3. Pyre - maybe very random, but I think Pyre is probably my favorite garisson hero. Demoniacs have relatively large spellpower, and Pyre's high chances to grab Offence/Tactics/Armorer, plus the fact she starts with Artillery make her a hero I nearly always try to let defend my capitol. With Logistics at hand, she is also an adept main hero and/or explorer.
4. Irsa - Necromancy bonus on a might hero :eeek:
5. Alamar - this one should be easy to guess. A few levels and he can pass on the knowledge of the Ressurrection spell to any of your heroes without having to build a level 4 mage guild <3
Logistics heroes are definitely the best heroes out there, but they never really appeal to me.

Hey lexx, is Kyrre male or female? And why did Sandro become a Necro after he was a Warlock? Just power hungry? And where does Archibald fit in, in Heroes III I mean...

I like many Heroes for different reasons, but for abilities I like Fafner from the Tower, Rashka from the Inferno, Yog from the Stronghold, and a few others with good abilities.
But for looks I really like Verdish from the Fortress, ViDomina from the Necropolis, Alamar from the Dungeon, Octavia from the Inferno, etc. etc.

Here's my loved ones:
Castle: Sir Christian (All in a single package, simply the best. imho)
Tower: Thane (It's a genie that looks like a guy, I want one!)
Inferno: Axsis (badass)
Fortress Gerwulf (I pick him because he has atleast some level of taste considering that he lives in a swamp)
Rampart: Clancy (A guy who looks like he can get the job done)
Dungeon: Jeddite (He not only looks badass, but has resurrection. Gah! Not permament  )
Stronghold: Yog (Nuff said)
Necropolis: Tamika/Galthran (Tamika was my favourite 'til I realised it was a shemale  I pick Galthran has alot of skellies so he's okay I guess  )
Conflux: Inteus (never played Conflux )
Edit: Kyrre is Female and Jenova is a male. Someone messed that up in the AOE, either that or my collector's edition booklet is incorrect .

Heroes
Alright here is my all factions heroes sum-up
Castle: Orin, Because of his archery skill.
Rampart: Malcom, starting with basic wisdom and Eagle eye is ok too.
Tower: We are alike there my friend, Thane here.
Stronghold: Yog, Cyclops=DEATH!!! (Enemy  )
Fortress: Alkin, Because of his super duper-awesome-killer-godslaying Gorgons.
Necropolis: Galthran, Skeletons nuff said. 
Dungeon: Deemer,ahhh the deadly meteor-shower.
Inferno: Rashka, mainly for his efreets, and he looks awesome.
Conflux: Monere because of the conflux level 6 creature the magic elemental.

My favorite heroes - are knights.
Especially Lord Killburn - very funny surname, isnt it? Like Kill and Burn?

Xyron - Mostly because of the looks of the hero, i don't know, but I just think he looks awezome, and that he does the Inferno spell with increased effect 
Ivor - Cause he increases the attack and defences, of the Wood and Grand Elfes ^^ me like :3

My favorite heroes are Alkin and Yog.
I love their Avatars and would use them as Main any day.
Alkin of course is a great hero with offense/armorer and him being a beastmaster...
For Yog, I even sometimes skip the behemoth building to get cyclopses week 1.

Just one?
in most cases i'll start with cyra (Tower. has haste + I like this town. the minus is the fact she has diplomacy). if the map is large enough and i had found a better hero (Elleshar, Jedith, Malekth, gird, andra, styg) after i built my mage guild I might switch to it in order to get a perfect hero.
Tower - Cyra
Castle - Adela (bless. but diplomacy...)
Rampart - Elleshar (intelligence as primary intelligence and wisdom as secondary. but starts with curse =/)
Dungeon - Jedith/Malekith (nice primary&secondary but again, won't be chosen as starter)
stronghold - terek (haste & tactics) as starter, gird as main
fortress - andra & styg as main but not starter.
perfect hero IMO has as secondary skills:
wisdom, air, earth, water, fire. also 3 of the following:
intelligence, pathfinding, logistics, ballistics.
archery, offence, Leadership and luck are agreeable too.
sorcery is good if you have it also as primary.
tactics is nice but hate it since it takes too much time. (why can't you make a fixed starting??). will probably be used if i fight a human player (don't want him to have it and crush me...)

Elleshar and Ayden have a pretty nice specialty. I went with Elleshar on the Heroes chronicles clash of dragons I played recently and by the end he had well over 1000 spell points, and I didn't choose just knowledge when given the chance. Thats the highest amount of spell points I ever remember seeing.
Only problem is that I was hoping to get dimension door or even fly, but they never seem to come up in the mage guilds. I think it is probably disabled for the campaign.
