after reading all this, I must say that I agree with Motorschaaf all the way.
I believe it's all these little unwritten rules that one follows that makes part of an 'honorable' player. This is also known as "common courtesy".
To be honest, I only use these courtesy guidelines when I know I have an easy victory (vs plebes) ... otherwise, I'll tell my opponent how I'll use ANY means possible to win (without being cheap or breaking agreed rules)
again, these are not rules, just the way I play (to have more fun)

how to post....
the best way to post all the crap u want....
mix some plattitudes (pls say 'gl & hf', start playing if
u got tactics)
with some common courtesy (say thank u after the match,
offer rematch after winning)
take some 'normal' agreements (joining player choose
colour (btw imo a way to show that the map isnt edited !)
and then take a bundle of rules (but be aware that another
person brings in the absurdest things like 'no power
scouts in opp's land ' (!) ) which u ever want as an
common unwritten agreement
and u are unattackable....
if s.o. dares to criticise u then it's really simple
- 'failed to the topic' !
sometimes that isnt enough then
- reduce that criticism to your plattitudes or the common
courtesy (that will help !)
kiddies rulez !
-woods
btw i've nothing against u motor, or andi or anyone else
who wants to play with rules (doesnt matter if written or
unwritten) and i dont think or have ever thought that a.o
of the rule-posters here have less skill as a.o. of the
non-rulers... and i dont think andi that a.o. of the rule
fraction uses rules to cover waeknesses.... !
but i dont agree with ur ' non rulers are forerunners of
cheating' !!! quite the reverse... i do think the more
rules the more ppl who break rules...
and i do think its the end of every 'open' tourney to
integrate rules which noone can proofe or rules which are
unwritten - and sorry, as long as i will play this league
i do post to try to prevent that u or motor or xyz
or a.o. else are able to post ur 'common rules' (which
may be good in a small group of friends)
as 'masterminds'for the tourney-community without
contradiction....

yep thats how u act . This treat isnt meant offensive in any way. if u go crazy when the word" rule" pops up somewhere its ur problem... sorry again for picking wrong name for the topic.
you better go ahead and tell us some woods "common courtesy" - "unwritten rules" . sorry for picking wrong name again maybe but english isn't my native language, And cool that all ( or all but one) understood me

could u please quote me where sayed something like that woods ???

TOh is no rules and its best way for a tourney of this size to be but whats wrong to talk about what people do or dont do in a game no matter which rules are agreed on ? did anyone say we wanna integrate a rule like" dont send power scouts to my land ?" nope noone said. Andi said !!HE!! wont do it when he is playing his buddies whats wrong with this woods ???
and btw i bet when andi would play YOU he would send a power 33 solmyr-scout to your land anytime

those "unwritten rules " or "common courtesy" ( damn can someone translate it to me please ) are the ones I follow. sure with some i expect my opponents to follow ( color choice and similars) others i dont care if my opponent does it or not ( town hiding for example ) , but i just wont do it ( no matter if i play with or without agreed rules, just because my style of play is a very agressive and not a defensive).
i just thoght it would be interesting to have a threasd where everyone tells ur his little personal" rules " or behaviours
my impression is only one in this thread thinks he is the "mastermind" of the comunity who can not tolerate other/different styles of playing than his own.

let's come to an end...
quote
--------------------------------------------------------
but you, woods and some other guys try to make us look like fools like: "lmao, look at andi and some others, they play with such crap whiney rules, hahaha what morons, they cripple that beautiful game".
thats just so annoying, and where it can lead we see on several players would do what do i know to win and dont know the difference anymore between tactics and cheating.
--------------------------------------------------------
sorry, its useless....
u arent able to understand my intention and i am not
able to believe your purity....
and u didnt get the meaning of 'masterminds' -
toplvl players with high prestige - like andi
but never me....

Okay Motor, hope this helps
Common = Normal (Or rather what most ppl do, like the common language in Germany is german, eventhough some ppl speak other languages)
Courtesy = Politeness (Original from courtious, which steems from how u behaved at a court. The original meaning was correct behaviour, but has changed meaning, and can now mean anything from simple politeness to someone going out off their way to help u out. Depending on the circumstances.)
If anybody has anything to add, or if it is me that have misunderstood any of these words, feel free to correct me

thanks defreni
now i dont need to use the word "unwritten rule " again and woods can maybe pause his crusade for ro rules ...btw this crusade is allrdy lost and thats good. People gonna play that game how they like and enjoy it not how YOU woods like and enjoy it .
and its just great that toh has so many players that everyone won't have probs to find an opponent that agrees/accepts/supports ur style of play
btw woods u still didn't quote me. that wasn't a qoute of me.
and to go back to topic another few things.
- if my opponent asks me little things about my game i answer em ( e.g " who is ur main ?" , " u had a big topia ?" and similar questions).
- if my opponent loses to me an a map i know better than him and he asks me some questions about it after the game i usually try to tell him some tricks. ( with few guys that were very fun to play i restarted a game with cartho for both so he could watch me a bit and i could watch him to help him to play the map a bit better next time )

Motor, this isn't a crusade. We post only to balance things. For newcomers. I don't want them to read here only your crap and believe that's how the game must be played. I want them to read also our crap and decide by themselves.
That's all.

if a newbie enjoys to play with rules - let him.
if a newbie enjoys to play without rules - let him.
in my opinion newbies are be able to decide which homm they enjoy more.
if u wanna balance rules - no rules . Use one of the countless hit and run threads please this here is about common courtesy ( i hope i wrote it right hehe).
woods and you just complain and critisize others "unwritten rules" maybe the 2 of you could write something to the topic next time

Motor, your brain is slow. You need 44 words to repeat what I said in 10. Of course newbies can decide by themselves. But, first, they will listen to other old players opinions, at least I think. They will read here...everyone can notice that all threads about rules ar started by the guys which enjoy rules game. The "no rules" game guys have always the second word.
But as long as you guys will speak about your kinda heroes game, we will answer. But I hope noone of you don't forget this is a friendly fight, because we have more than one point in commom. We love the game and our interest in it makes us flame sometimes. Let not become vindicative and keep our humour.

Welcome to the board slowbrainschaaf
Isnt it sooo ridiculous that a game can produce such animosity, and such vitriolic posting.
Keep up the good work, it makes me laugh.

Well itīs not a fight I would say. Itīs more like we just correct them when they are wrong so that the noobs donīt get the wrong impression.
It was nice to hear and realize that its always the "rules" guys that start the posts.

My "arrogant brain" is satisfied. Hamsi and Bjorn must quote me to finally say something intelligent. Because their two previous posts about dumb "unwritten" rules were not out of topic but out of human comprehension.

woods: sorry i dont understand u. also it doesnt rain today
sal: unwritten rules suck for peeps who only look for winning not for a good fight, at the end you guys are the loosers even if you win
some new unwritten ones i can think of:
- i have a log hero with boots and gloves and tportal, but no army or power, opp is much stronger but cant catch me: i dont run to force a draw, i fight and loose
- i chain with pendant and air orb in a big fight and loose it close, i say gg opp earned the win to beat that combo, i do not surrender and chain the snow outta him to win
- on randoms i see that earth tome lying around, guarded by a swarm of vamp lords or something like that, but the generator sucked and i can take it without fighting the guards: i tell my opponent and do not grab it, or if i can beat the vamps i fight first
- generally i dont use map glitches to gain a unfair bonus
