maybe we all should write a sentence under our statements if they include something about our personal style of homm like

- " kids dont try this at home"

-" this is only my way to play homm please feel free to play the game however u like ".

- "dont forget guys TOH is no rules".

this way  noone has to jump in threads and tell the comunity these things that allrdy almost everyone knows.
and it would make all theads easier to read and decreases the number of offtopic posts.

This is the only way to play homm3

And u gotta play like this, just so you know. You have to play exactly this way:

Donīt play any rules, except maybe no 4th as main, no diplo ever, no necro ever, no cartographer, no grail.

So there you have it, an easy answer to a complex problem. =)

i think its also a question of how long you play heroes online, about your experience...
as a new player i didnt care about rules too, coz you try out everything and everything is just fun.
after you played a amount of games, for some more for some less, you might start realizing some things just suck and would be cool if that wouldnt be used.
so i understand newer players with the no rule arguing, and veterans who sometimes like no rules but agree on them easy without huge blabla.
but veteran players with hundreds of games, who think unwritten rules are silly or crappy and could never agree to some can only be hungry for wins and points, and their ego is hurt when they loose, and thats kinda a fact to me

i give up !!!

Sal and woods..... i give up.... my nerves are not strong then yours.... the misunderstandings started on ''unwriten rules'' .... in my language its depends on personal attitudes.... you misunderstood my opinions that; they are only for honorable players.... believe me i load a game if my opponent is unhappy to lose main by accident.... sal thinks my opinions are dumb (the polite version : he wanted to say im dumb) and woods i dont want to fight friendly its really unlucky chosen words for sal(hmmm you must be lawyer you are right to accuse me on searching mistakes)
Anyway for me this post is over and i give up ..... and woods and sal im sorry that i cant explain my ideas clearly on my first post(bad english) Maybe i can explain my way when we play a game... bye

Bye Hamsi OK let's come to an end. Prometheus explained it much better than me in his last post: the less skill you have the more rules you ask. But this leads to a paradoxe: I still can't understand why high skilled players like JB, Pandora, Wacko, Andy and Jex are so straigh about rules. They are hardcore players, or could be. It seems to me that they imagine that hardcore players do not anything else than hit and run or kill catapult. Non sense.

The game can be very deep if we start with no restricted actions. Today we know (if keep eyes open, not like Hack) how to counter most of called "cheap" tactics.

I cannot convince but I can only tell you stories from game who will keep you awakened, well, at least if you are interested to read my crap:

Map- Spellbound (good map, not crap). Opponent/Prometheus/inferno, I am dungeon

NO RULES GAME

He has Jeditte, I have Alamar.

Second week we both have three same towns producing devils and red dragons. I am in middle before him colecting all chests for exp, when Prometheus surprise me flying over seas and mountains. He got dim door in the pyramid!! At this stade i can give up....But...he jumps once, twice... and stops. Whourra, he has only basic air. I go for his towns while he is out of spell points to come back. Now I am owning his three infernos, but my reds are still in danger, he can hit me and run. I build guild in all his towns and I get town portal. Next move- going back home to upgrade reds. It's done, hit and run is uselles now.

Turns become longer and longer....10 min...12...15 min.

Both of us think. How can you catch somebody with no army but with dim door.

Andy would you come to fight ande lose?

Well, to bad, you were missing the most interesting part Prometheus needs experince to upgrade is air magic. The only heavy monsters remaining are underground. He makes the error, he goes underground. I block the gate and wait....wait...until he makes the step he would not have to do. He doesn't know Alamar has exp log , boots and gloves. I can't reach the corners of the underground only.
He made the error to aproach on step more, I can reach him and his last town in same turn. Game over.

The rules game have unfortunately the sames issues. "We had a great battle which lasted 30 minutes and my Craig Hack with 33-45-21-24 won" Good game.

The no rules games could finish without one fight, but with more intensity between turns. I like them.

The bad thing is that you guys even don't try to play without rules, while we play (forced) almost all games accepting your conditions.

I don't care, but my deepest ideas are in this thread, not on the battlefield, where I accept your conditions because I want to play.

And Andy, don't shoot at Woods for his metaphoric sentences. If those makes you only to look through the window to see if it rains, than too bad, you have to grow.

Another unwritten rule that just came to my mind:

If you have a general preference for a certain kind or style of play:
Donīt try to change the Heroes 3 environment to your advantage. Because this, unlike the use of strong spell power scouts or the destruction of a catapult, is about the lowest and most dishonorable thing you can do next to cheating.

Andi, when asked about your favourite heroes, you gave us a list of might heroes only. On the other hand, you condemn and badmouth the use of strong spells that make use of high spell power, and tactics that favour magic heroes.

Imagine a football coach, who has a team of small and fast players only, trying to make a rule that scoring goals with the head is not allowed anymore.

Andi, lets see if i got this right: As long as you are a veteran u can "trash talk" newbies and veterans with "good" manners but if you are a newbie you are not allowed to do that? then its not "good" manners anymore?

And about that "newbie" thing, I dont know this for a fact but it wouldnt suprise me if bjorn has played more TOH games than Archdevil_666 so since bjorn is a "newbie" then archie must be one to right? Then he must have had some killer luck last season since he has an azure drag next to his name now. Personally i wouldnt call any of them newbies, both of them are fun people to play with and they know what they are doing.

To try to stay alittle on topic id say that i think  everyone has things they do/dont do before/during they play a game. Motor for example has given us lots of things he doesnt do when he is playing and i think its good that he writes that so ppl know what to expect when they play him. To say those things isnt a bad thing, i have no idea how this thread turned into the classic "rules vs no rules" war. But i dont like it since motors basic idea with this thread was good, a thread there ppl could discuss what they do when playing for "common courtesy" to their opponent. Id like to add something more here now but i cant think of anything more to mention

/Stefan

Lews
I think some people use rules to change the playing field to their advantage, but some people like playing with certain mititations, because they enjoy the game that way. This game is all about enjoyment. Play how you like to play. Lews, you and I have had some great games, and we play no rules, anything goes. Then again, I have some great games with Andi too, we have several rules in place on randoms, things like no D/D and fly, no diplo and necro etc.. So..which one is the right way to play? Neither of them, they are both fine. Play the way you want to play. If you go into a game and the player proposes 6 different rules, including no hit and run, no log etc, then leave. It doesnt mean his style of play is wrong.

There needs to be some mutual respect amongst heroes players, especially the better ones. It doesnt help when half need to score a point everytime they post.

Btw, love to play again Lews

yeah you right mate, im not that agressive usually, just some posts piss me off when some dudes think they have to say unwritten rules/rules are weak-player-crap with less skill, and than those guys kiss their own asses over and over again, than when i drank a beer or 2 (or 3 ) it happens i get a little agressive too and tell them the truth how i see it.
you guys gotta stop thinking playing no rules requires more skill and the other guys cripple this game, thats the first thing to do, actually does something like destroying a catapult require skill and let the arrow towers do the rest? i dont think so
