How you know Richie who are the best? Looking at toh rankings? They don't tell us how the players play, but how many games they won...Someone who reduce the game to a "big final fight" only, telling us he enjoy this manner should maybe figure on a "rules "ranks. I can not compare Frank and Andi. They don't play the same game.Frank respects Andi and will accept his rules. Andi respects noone but himself, and will never accept "no rules" game. That shows who is greater and more flexible.
When I played Jex in allied tourney he started whinning on first turn because my team got double inferno. Would Frank, Antal, Flamingo, Mocara whine like kids? Never. But, they are on same ranking system and they will remain as that.
Something is wrong here.

Every thread consist of the people from the bastard league telling us rules rule.
Then the ToH players coming back and saying rules suck.

This thread was different because it WAS really about rules but phrased in a new subversive manner.
"Lets make a thread about rules but say they are not rules if anyone says that it is about rules."
If you want to play 'unwritten rules' then why put it on the ToH message board. After all now you have written them (as someone already said) and this is the board for a no rules league.
How bout this? How about you play all the rules you want to but stop trying to influence others with them?
You use this place as a forum to influence people to play the way you do.
You think all we do is hit and run all the time and we think all you guys can do is build and battle.
We like the game as programmed and you think it is full of bugs that need to be fixed with rules.
We both have zero respect for the others style of play and I don't think either camp will change that.
I will summon your damned boat on HG. And if you don't like it then don't play me. Who cares? I don't like playing whiners anyway.
You guys act so gallant saying things like "I won't play a guy who does this..blah blah." Well you don't see us beating down your zone room door to play you do you?
We feel the same way but it comes down to this. ToH is a no rules league. And this is ToH's board.
You play here for free and then you are ungrateful and put this smack on the board. How bout a lil respect for the principals this league is founded on? How about a lil respect for the leadership's mission statement of no rules?
There is no way these guys would crud up the bastard board with rules suck nonsense. It would be rude to do that.
You make a subleague and then play here and try to make it into that league. It'll never happen.
Just drop it. If you like to play that way then do it. Who is stopping you?

All this time you make the same "Rules rule" post and what have you accomplished with it?
ToH is still no rules and many people who played rules don't now because the arguments you made were so easily refuted.
Go ahead and rip this post down piece by piece and take it all out of context as is your only debating method it seems.
In closing, this season I decided to play it from your guys side so I could see your points.
On my zone room I put "You pick the rules." and I played any rules and learned the common toh maps.
I made it to 1597 until I reallized our clan was not going to make the finals then I stopped caring about that.
I gave an entire season to your guys point of view. Played dumb maps and 2 min timers and every rule imaginable and you know what?
It's just a dumbed down version of what I was already playing.
Heroes-lite.
From now on I will never play with stupid rules again. I tried it and it's just the mark of the weak.

We played a random once this season Moc...I believe the only rule we played was no hit and run, because I requested it. In the end you conceded, because you said, if I cant hit and run, I cant win. Fair enough, you were gracious in defeat and said something like " I'll go and find a game I can win now" which is fair, I would do the same. We hardly played with every rule imaginable, and had a good game, with one rule. What was wrong with that game? You never seemed to have a problem with it when we started. We had some fun, talked some crap, had a good time. My case in point is, the game can be enjoyed either way. I wont attack you, or flame members of the board, just put the facts across. Enjoy the game.
Its all sorta pointless anyway. The whole reason this argument is taking place, is because everyone is bored of heroes. Bring on H4

yeah im gonna stop tossing now, after all we are all fans of this great game and should get along, lets say no more rules discussions, agreed bastards? lol, this just leads nowhere, but hey it was fun trash talking, i liked it 
i gotta say the only thing that made me a little sad was me being attack as a hc person, i did that "job" with no benefits for me, and i ruled all cases neutral, so it is really no use in attacking me as hc person when i talked about difference things

I played 100 Toh games this season ( ok ok just 98 but im playing Nr. 99 now )
i would say maybe 70 % with rules 30 % without. maybe a bit less maybe a bit more.
I prefer to play with rules but i play no rules too. it really depends on my mood.
I had fun games with rules and without this season.
i have respect for all rules players that make rules because they enjoy the game more this way.
i have respect for all no-rules players that play the game how it is becaue they enjoy it more this way.
What i dont respect are players that play with or withour rules just to gain easy wins , in both "camps" are such kind of players.
i really dont know why some posts are so agressive (maybe they just seem to me this way). if u only wanna play no rules , there are tons of players that share ur style of play and same goes for "rulers".
P.S:
not all bastards prefer to play with rules
not all toh players prefer no rules

I've known Vesuvius quite a while now, and to my knowledge ToH has always been open to any and all as long as they play fair.
I don't think it's right to portray ToH as a tourney where players who do make rules are not allowed, or wanted.
This arguement has gone on a long time, and hopefully Heroes4 will put an end to it.
I am agreed with Motorschaaf in his statement that not all Bastards play with rules, or dislike the no rules game. Mocara please stop trying to make out our tournament as a whole like it's out to "dumb down" heroes. It's not a tru statement - nor is it a fair one.
There are many players i would enjoy a no-rules game with, i even challenged defreni to a game after he got a lil mad at me on the board, but no response, hehe. In fact, in Bastards we even tried to have a sub-tourney that was strictly no-rules to encourage players to try a different style. I don't think that what you're saying is a personal attack at me, so don't be telling me i'm taking it too personal again but i don't think your statements here are fair.
It would be nice to see in ToH that the different viewpoints could simply be accepted without this need for constant fighting.

I think what the "no rules" side means, is that the procedure is the following.
1. "Rules" side makes a post about how good rules are
2. "No rules" side respond
3. It continues.
Sure we can get along fine, but there will always be responses to posts that are for one side.
To sum it up:
The games work, there´s no need for arguing on rules or no rules right now. And everything´s forgiven =)

I've played both ways, and would consider myself a "no ruler" because I really don't see anything wrong with the way the game is naturally. If someone takes your castle early in the game, it's because you overextended yourself and paid for it, not because the game is "just unfair like that". I've done it before and gotten whipped, I'm not ashamed to admit it! As far as I know anything that's a natural part of the game isn't "cheating" or "trickery" and doesn't need to be removed/altered/dissected/cross-examined/molested/twisted/
annihalated/etc.
I don't see how Heroes4 coming out will change any of the problems arising from the two camps of players, though.
I don't have any problems with you guys who just can't get enough of rules, I'm just not one of you.

Just to jump in, I always try to play with no rules, but if zone activity is low, I'll accept some small things, but since I usually play randoms or the boring everything-is-equal (a la Battle Royale) I never accept things like no hit and run and not killing the catapult -- the game lets you do it, so if it works for me, I'm going to.

I didnt write that post as an insult to you, it was just stating a fact. We had a good game, you made a correct assumption in saying that you couldnt win unless you hit and run. So you conceded, and we played a game in good spirit and honour. Now you say this on the msg board? Why does everything have to be a snowing drama to you? I`m not telling the next 3 points to you for you already know them quite well. You mislead people. That`s what you do best I think.
1) You can`t take a defeat like a man. Ever since I layed implosion on your head your natural anger never ceased to grow...
2) I don`t drop from games. But I understand it`s not your objective to be accurate on this and maybe you are confusing me with yet another person you hate.... Anyhow if really you are interested in learning how I go about my games, play a 2nd game against me !
3) Unfinished games. I hate those. You couldn`t guess just how many times I was 1 turn from defeating my opp but then that opp had to go... You should be greatfull that I don`t run after them to finish the games for that would only put me that much ahead of you in the ranking... I wouldn`t want to cause you anymore insomnia !

As for the unwritten rules I can`t think of any about regular maps. Play them as they are or don`t play them at all. For random I wouldn`t call it unwritten rules but just common sense. As others may have already written: Starting with lvl 5-10-15-20 while opp has lvl 1. Starting with fort while opp has none. Starting with multiple towns while opp has only one. That doesn`t mean that playing in those conditions isn`t acceptable though. Anything that can make the game more challenging is always welcomed !
