I bet if you ask the best russian Heroes players about the story behind they have no clue, and they never played any campaign (they even did not buy the game ). The game is exceptional, who cares about the story...

The best Russian Heroes players are people who obsessively live and breathe the gameplay, and constitute around 10 or 20 people out of over 10,000,000 prospective buyers (maybe 2,000,000 in H3's case, considering it's a nineties game). Look at Planescape or Fallout or Eternal Darkness or The Longest Journey or Heavy Rain, then tell me that nobody cares about storyline or that games with a strong story don't succeed, either critically or financially or both. (these are five very extreme examples, from the all-story no-gameplay side of things, and they have all been successful.)

The storyline defines level design, it defines character design, it defines atmosphere and graphics and setting and thousands of other overarching factors, and that counts for the Might and Magic games too. Case-in-point: even if they have no idea what Erathia actually is, or if they think the Gryphonhearts are somebody's internal organs, I'm sure the best Russian players would be well able to tell me who Solmyr or Sandro are if I showed them their portraits. That's why I don't feel you can get away with employing a hack to conjure up a poor excuse for a plot anymore (I'm not saying DM's writers are hacks by any stretch, just making a point).

EDIT: For the record, if there had been no storyline in your Spartans or Stargate maps I wouldn't even have considered going near them, and would've missed out on the kickass gameplay.

Bad example, using a story line is unacceptable by the common player. Used to "enter" key as soon as a text pops up, they missed the hints and were unable to finish those maps (hence the "too difficult" comments)

Although I share your conceptions about how the work should be done, I am realist: most of people do not like to read while in the middle of action.

Can we put it the other way? What is there to read in the middle of the action?

some of my friends didn't want to try deus ex, because I told them there was a lot to read if you want to understand even a little glimpse of the scenario
how many game scenarios ask serious questions about politics or ethics in science among other things, and the future of our world in general?

Politics, ethics and science are not the only things worth to read, or one will become a fade person. In general, a game creator finds inspiration for his graphics, plot, progression is he was provided with a quality story. But all this is about our century illness: books were replaced by cells, computers and other gadgets. 15 years ago when I was taking the bus I could see some teenagers with a book. Today they are all without exception scratching their cells, ignoring everything around.

there are lots of things worth to read, but few video games has a story as deep and believable as deus ex.
what do you mean by "cell"? is that mobile phone? nowadays, young people seem constantly connected with mobile phones and mp3 devices.

it even makes me think of a current advertising, for what I think is a mobile phone. it says it will enable you to stay closer to your friends. while I assume it actually draw people further from each other. in a world where people complain (probably wrongly) to never have enough time, the mobile phone is a perfect excuse to keep people at a distance while agumenting it's a way to stay close.
what's even more amazing now, is young people communicating only by written electronical messages, and who can't even take the time to write full sentences. if that's what they call communication...

Oblivion is a good game. But the storyline just was lame. The good thing about oblivion is the nude mod

Today i bought the game Dante's Inferno... It seems like its just a bloodfilled hack n slash game.. So i'm actually disapointed, But the choice was between Dante's Inferno and Dragon Age Origins (50$ each)

Was my choice good or bad?

(And if you mention Red Dead Redemption, i'll rip your heads off!! I WHANT THAT GAME! Its just too expensive for me..)

Hi, i'm a big fan of Might and Magic games, and i especially love Dark Messiah.. I enjoy Crysis, and i love the GTA games..

So, here is my question 4 u all:

Does there exist a game that includes Dark Messiahs skill system and another kind of Engine (Source lookalike)
And combines the Graphics and Suit abilities from Crysis (I don't care if is Swords n bows, or guns n grenades)
And combines the violence and opportunities from GTA???

Any game that looks like just one of them, or maybe all of them??

(I really whant something Dark Messiah look a like, but i cannot find it)

you are describing dragon age origins
