If you can't land it means the mapmaker placed one event on that square, therefore you can only water walk to that destination.

ONLY new week monsters can be removed by right-clicking, do it if they block some important point.

But where can I get water walk ?
I am just at the starting months. Try the place of dreams above Arzazel but the guards are strong and I got defeated fast.
Or is it supposed to be later to get the spell and thus the emerald tower ?

And about the monsters rclick fact, actually I can rclick on all monsters around me from the very first day to remove them :| Guess something's wrong then.

You must play on 200% and check one of the difficulty options like 5%artifact/10% enemy growth to get the interesting events and story there.
The location of waterwalk is on previous page.

Thanks for the help.

By the way, what is an acceptable time for getting water walk and thus visiting the emerald towers ?
I play to around month 3 and still on the surrounding area. The AI heroes do not look that easy to beat too. For example, the stronghold guy below with GBs. My skeletons might have numbers, but them GBs just look intimdating :|

Might have to replay to discover more

There are many options,so it's not easy to say when.
For example in my games very often the game freezed on Azrael's or Orrin's turn if I am after the 6th month before 1 year have passed.

Recently I have installed the HD mod and I may try with it some day.

I guess you could try leaving one of the main heroes alive, monitoring and dealing with him later. For me Azrael is the most hard one to defeat with his dracoliches.

Or if you hang for a while, you could have difficulties with the Diamond dragons(the guards of the area) and Orrin.

For me the hardest is Xeron, as all his troops are fire shielded and this is what kills my commander. In general, the strategy is same for all leaders, you get out of you area before 7th day, you go to magic shop and buy the commander artifacts (at least armor and sword), don't buy or build anything in town.

If you find quick the two artifacts, do some 50 battles fast (a few days) to improve commander then kill all the other leaders before month 2. If your commander has fire shield and endless retal + death stare, keep summoning elementals then nobody will attack him. We can kill all leaders on 200% with only commander and little fodder.

That's pretty extreme to eliminate all other leaders in month 2 .. I guess I must play again a bit to get the gist of where things are first. Then the problem of minimal loss for my troops

With Azazel as the main hero, in the first battles, if you encounter guys like sharpshooters or berserk dragonflies (they are fast, attack all around, etc..) then the battles are hard enough.

And you mentioned that do not build things in towns. So we have to get out as fast as possible. But the problem is the mana points :| After several battles, mana points are out (slow, stone skin..) In the last game, this was a headache too.

Is "magic shop" actually the battle academy ?
It actually sells artifacts so I think it's the one. However, the problem is they give random artifacts each time so I have to reload a lot (sometimes they give the +4 def shield, or armor of wonder etc...)

@rampartlord,you can upgrade any of the commander artifacts at the artificier and get the helm of immortality.

The bad news is that you can forget one of the two artificiers, because he is guarded by Dracoliches.
You can use the other one, after you fight the guards.

Ah, it's just that Salamandre mentioned accessing the magic shop and directly buying the armor and sword there.
I just find it strange to have found only the bow (shooting for commander), boot and some regular artifacts like I said earlier. Too many reloads :|

How to deal with Arzael's dracoliches ?
I just replayed as Lord Haart and have beaten Orrin, Gem, Hulk.
My army is only commander, 1st & 2nd Henchman and of course them lovely ballistas.
I am still at month 2 now.

However, dracolich seems impossible. It blocks damage very often and when attack, can kill my commander fast.

and I also want to ask one more question about fire shield. How can we deal with those heroes that have fire shield for their stacks ? Commander will be killed fast by them

Azrael dracolich is easy. It is even easier if commander has sorpicore attack (don't recall the name right now).

All you have to do is summon elementals, dracoliches will attack them while you bash it with commander. As dracolich can't have morale, this can't fail. Of course, you should get that spell first, build any tower.

Fire shield: dispel?

The fire shield will be applied every turn, just dispel it every time you attack. A bit tedious but that's it, is additional difficulty.

How much time does it take you guys to defeat the ogres ?
I see that the battle can be won with quicksand everywhere and of course the commander has to have fly ability.

But then the damage the commander can deal to the ogres is like too little. I estimate it might take more than 2 hrs to finish this battle

Orb of fire:

It's true that once you have abilities and force field, the battles can be relaxing. At least after the tiring one with ogres

Notes:
- The battle with Azure is 2-3 hit and runs, is acceptable
- The one with ogres is so ....
Only imagine replaying with other factors and starting to sweat now.
- Flies, sharpshooters, phoenix + ele, and the above battle: all done easily.
Enchanters at the first emerald tower (east): must wait for archangel with full abilities. Then crush them.

So, i specifically registered on Heroes community to ask for your guidance to you all. I recently reinstalled WoG along with the Dragon Slaughter as i remember the map being impossible (for me, at least) but very complex and entertaining.

I've been "trying" to play this map for about a week, following the advices and tips left on this thread along with my personnal experience through fails and constant mistakes. But i just can't figure out how to even reach the red border...

I'm playing as Orrin along with the secret race, which grants me a dracolich instead of the usual lord of thunder. Getting a firebird 2nd henchman as suggested and keep my 2 henchmen along with my commander alive for around 5-6 battles, enough to clear the path to the red border at least. I would have to re-hire my hero at least once in the run, as i always end up against lizardmen, pegasi or even archmages. I'd usually restart the scenario if the starting monsters around are too strong. I also set the difficulty at Impossible, but the rest of the settings are as lowered as possible (growth 1/12, non-random neutral exp, etc..). Slight problem is that neutral stacks keep on getting random abilities even though I disable it. But that's not too much to mind I suppose.

At this point, it's usually day 2 or 3 and matters get really pressing as there's this pack of diamond dragons that I have to clear out under a week. Except that it appears simply impossible to me. Even with 4 additional fodder as well as My draco henchman leveled up (2 of em)
These dragons simply ravage everything. As suggested in the thread, i'd take on the hit and run method, killing 2-3 at a time which is also very costy:

2500 to re-hire my hero, considering i only have 9K starting gold as well as either 500 or 1000 daily income (it becomes 6.5K if i upgrade my Town hall) Travelling distance between fortress and border takes a full turn usually. By the time I'm either financially wasted or ran out of movepoints, it's already week 2, dragons still standing.

I tried many different approaches, but kept failing:

Choosing ballistic skills to grant me a catapult and ballista for 2 additionnal fodders at the start of the battle against dragons, getting a santa gremlin for 2 more hits burned (4 units are spawned with a stack of santa, easily dispatched with dragon breath attack)etc...

I tried about 7-10 times using all around different methods before giving up and asking for your help. I figured I must be doing something really wrong or missing an essential detail, the map is so complicated after all. And me being a novice in HoMM in general really musn't help either, I guess. Would you mind guiding me out a little bit ? This map is so intricate, it's like those evil sirens you sometimes  see in HoMM3 maps: They keep seducing you, dragging you toward them and leading you to fall.

Anyways, thanks for your replies. I'll eagerly await.

The main point of the entire game is getting your commander almost invincible, and he levels a lot through each battle. With those levels, some interesting overpowered abilities are offered, as death stare, block or entangle. What I suggest is to choose a leveling path from the first battle and stick to it. Go for death stare and block and get them before the fight vs dragons.

And keep in mind that with each battle, your commander gets better stats, so don't be greedy and kill every tiny monster you see around, before attacking the bosses.

Good grief, I finally managed to cheese them out. Thank you Salamandre. As you said, I only needed to get a few more mobs on the way to reinforce both my commander and my dracolich. Worked like a charm !

Now that I can see the "outside world", I'm kind of unsure what to do. I read on the thread that you're supposed to find Emerald towers as by travelling by sea, Is it right ?
