Osseric's party had penetrated deep into the bowels of the fortress. The shrine of the Deathgod was near. Clouds of the netherworld-smoke clung to the ceilings of the burried corridors. As always, the shrines were in the deepest, most buried part of the structure. This was as ever done to be as close to the Underworld as possible.
"It will not be...far now. The breath...is thick here." Osseric said to himself.
As he predicted, when Osseric rounded the corner the shrine stood there in it's otherworldy glory.
Two bassalt pipes stood eitherside of a large bassalt bowl. Would the bowl be filled with water, Osseric could have bathed in it would he wish to do so. The pipes billowed a constant trail of Breath of the Underworld. Behind the bowl stood an effigy of the God to whom the shrine was dedicated.
Osseric aproached the bowl, but his way was blocked. By a large undead Knight.

Salim met no resistance whatsoever and soon found what he was looking for. However, it was not what he expected. There on it was a mural depicting Demons blessing humans with their power.
"My people..." thought Salim as he looked over it more.
The mural extended, showing how his ancestors were cursed after helping the demons in countless wars. Salim then saw a robed man in the mural holding a goblet with some sort of substance which somehow turned a hellborn man into a master of magic. Yet it was never specified what the substance was. Salim quickly traced the mural onto a piece of parchment he had and returned to the group saying, "I found it. It seems to be completely unguarded."

- Of course it isn't guarded, The golems crumbled to dust.- Said Domerth, while examining the murals. It showed a smith, sundering the swords into three pieces and scattering them not only across Magitara, but also across the rest of the world.
- Let's not waste anymore time here, let's go to the vault.

Tael nodded. "Let's go." he said, but only got to take one step before he were lifted from the ground.
Someone entered the room, unaffected by the presence of the others. "You knew I would come, Tael Riverine, you should be more prepared. Or haven't you learned to counter spells yet?"
The dark elf smiled and sent the dark elf flying backward. "Now it's time for sweet revenge." he hissed.

Salim immediately crept into the shadows, falling in behind whoever just thrown Tael, making sure he didn't make any noise.

Poat immediately bowed before who he was Domerth's sister and said, "Greetings, oh fair lady. I am Poat, a servant of Lord Domerth. I was told to wait for you here and prepare some food for you all."
Poat then presented the food that he had spiced with Salim's magical herbs. "Please eat and rest. Lord Domerth shall be here shortly."

"Stand aside!" Osseric commanded the Knight. It did not budge, instead it crossed it's arms in defiance.
"You will not prevent me from making an offering to the Lord of the Underworld." Osseric said, this time in the the Tongue of Death.
Again the Knight refused to move out of the way.
Osseric summoned his staff. The malachite spine appeared in his hand, the orb that topped it alight.
"Kneel then, for you shall be my slave. None shall stand between me and the Lord." Acting quickly, Osseric's soldiers rushed to the knight's sides and forced him to his knees. Osseric thrust the obsidian orb into the Knight's face. The orb eminating a black light. With a connection to the Underworld as strong as here, Osseric had no need of life to drain.
Thrusting his mind into that of the Knight, Osseric plumbed the depths of it's memory. This knight had been undead for centuries now and was raised by the Necromancer-Priest of this shrine to guard it. Some tatters of it's former life still lingered in it's mind, but the most dominant was that of his former master. Osseric knew him not, but it hardly mattered. Osseric wiped the master from the memory and replaced it with his own. Osseric withdrew.
The Knight was now under his control. He got up and moved out of the way without protest.
Osseric stepped to the bowl and made the offering to his lord. He poured out four and a half vails of Soulessence into the bowl. The goopy grey liquid evaporating as it touched the basalt shrine.

Domerth drew out his blade and stood still. He awaited the intruder to make another move, whom seemed to be focused on Tael right now.
while eating the trio heard some noises coming from the ruin.
- What was that?- Asked Maegwyn- Should we check it out?
- No need.- Said Rebeca- Whatever that was I'm sure my brother is fine.

Tael turned to smoke and spread across the room, but a wave from the Masters hand turned him back into his old self and he fell to the floor again. "Caught me off guard once, child, that will never happen again."
He made a whipping motion with his hand and Tael were flung across the room once again. The Master didn't pay any attention to the other people in the room, busy taking care of his former student. "You should have followed my advice and trained your countermagics." he said, his fingers forming magic once again.
He flung both hands forward, but this time Tael was up on his knees with both hands raised in front of him. Flames exploded in contact with the older mans magic, and the room went still once again. "Better." the Master whispered.

Salim knew that a direct assault against this new enemy would be folly, so he looked around the room, looking for something that would be able to defeat Tael's opponent. Salim mostly found gold and jewels, but eventually found some sort of crystalline shard. Salim used his hellborn abilities and sensed the power within it.
"Anti-magic?" thought Salim, puzzled at this discovery. "Anti-magic cannot be produced by magic. Then what is the origin of this thing? No matter, it will work."
Salim was not so naive so as to merely pick it up. He drew his sword softly and lightly tapped the crystal. It made a light hollow sound before being absorbed into Salim's sword and making it glow lightly.
Just then the mage turned around and tried to cast some sort of spell on Salim, but Salim held his sword up and was able to not only block the magical attack, but also absorb the spell into the blade, making it glow brighter and become empowered. Salim then ran at the stunned mage, but then hopped onto the wall and ran alongside it, dragging himself along with his gauntlets that kept him hooked onto the sides of the room. Salim jumped off, flipping through the air and landing next to the mage. However, the mage's magical sword was summoned and was whipping through the air in an attempt to kill Salim. Salim dodged and parried the attacks, but could not get in close enough to make a finishing blow on the mage.

Domerth attacked the intruder, giving him a hard blow in the back, howeve, the wraithblade was stopped by a magical shield.
Domerth jumped away, dodging a gust of fire thrown at hiw, and retaliated sending a wave of icicles to the attacker. While most crashed into the shield, few of them did reached the target, stabbing him into various locations. Domerth concentrated his strenght, and again charged at the oponent.

The Master frowned and directed his magic toward the ground around him, crumbling it to dust and creating a hole to floors below. He then closed his eyes and thrust one hand out like it had claws and Tael were lifted into the air seemingly by his chest. "I have no interest in your helpers, child, what harm they bring me I will share with you."
He then opened his mouth and a green essence were drawn from Taels eyes, nostrils, mouth and ears (and other unspeakable holes). The Masters wounds closed up, and he let Tael to the ground again. "This is not the time, I want you to be at your best and feel it is not enough."
He whirled around and were gone in a gust of smoke.

- Who was he?- Domerth asked Tael, while walking towards a pedestal on which his desired book was kept on. He then noticed another door with a mural. this time it depicted a man wielding a sword. Domerth opened the door with his wraithblade, and found another pedestal. this time there was a sword hilt with a small portion of the blade. Domerth's wraith blade pulsed intensively as he approached it. Domerth picked it up, and felt that his weapon was linked to this piece. he also found a holder for the sword. it was of ornate design, with silver trim, and images of wolves. It was a masterfully crafted piece. Domerth putted the hilt into the holder, and strapped it on his back.
- I found what I was looking for. Grab whatever you'll find useful. Let's get back to the camp- SaidDomerth while filling up a puch with gems and gold coins.

Tael searched through the bookcases, looking for spellbooks. He finally found one reading Counterspells and healing magics, and cradled it in his arms. He looked over at Domerth.
"He was my Master, he thought me everything I know except the turning to smoke-part." he shook his head. "I killed him dozens of years ago, but it seems he found a way to get back to life. And now he wants revenge."

Salim stared at his sword vividly. The glow had diminished, but it still seemed the emanate magical power greatly.
"Ildahra...so this is your true power..." Salim muttered to his sword as he remembered the day he was first given the sword by his father twenty years ago.
After staring at the sword for a long while he then remembered himself and started collecting jewels, gems, and gold. When he was done, he went to Domerth and said, "I believe we may be done here. When shall we head back?"

Salim grinned and replied, "Not to worry, Domerth, for I am well versed in the customs of the royal court. Poat and I have had an encounter with royalty before, so we know how to act."
Poat had finished spicing up the meat and stew for the royal entourage and waited for Domerth and his companions to arrive.

Far away, on a distant mountain, in a cave, a, old, withered Mage had just sat down for some rest. It was hard work, after all, summoning jinns. Especially five in a row. Besides, he hadn't been feeling so good lately. He felt as if a great pressure was on him, as if a python was squeezing him to death. What he didn't know was that this was no mere sickness. An ancient, long-forgotten Zephalinot, named Evelgor, was breaking into his magical defenses. Then, with a small pop, they cracked. A look of surprise came over his face for an instant, before changing to a blank one. Then, the Mage stood up. He smiled. The smile didn't seem to fit his kind face. A soft, deadly voice whispered, "Ah. Time to get to work." And with that, he picked up a staff, some bottles with jinns trapped in them, and left the cave.

The group emerged from the ruin, looking tired, but happy. Domerth was immediately hugged by his sister.
- It's been a long time Brother. How are you?
- I'm fine. Even got a little group of mercenaries here.
Rebeca reached from the blindfold and removed it. Icy blue light flowed from Domerth's eye sockets. She looked straight at them.
- Incredible... The mages of this land are truly blessed for their skill. To restore sight like this...- She touched his right hand- And the hand too? Remarkable...
- Mages got nothing to do with this, Sister. These are the gifts of those who revere the Gods of the dead. The Necromancers. But tell me, is this the reason you sailed all the way from Meniranth?- He waved to the twins standing nearby. They responded with slightly bowing their heads.- Didn't you brought Omutt with you? Or you were afraid that he just kill everything that looks at you the wrong way?
- No. Nothing like that. I came to request aid brother. Omutt's dead for two weeks now.
- Yeah.- Said Falrick- He stormed the fortress before we set sail here. He was alone, naked, AND he was dead drunk. From what I heard he slaughtered half a legion of those monstrous men before he fell.
- What's happening in the kingdom right now? Tell me.
- Our "uncle" returned.
- But father dealt with him, when I was fourteen. I mean, I saw it happen.
- Somehow he survived. And he's been here too. With him came armies of armor clad men. I haven't seen such warriors. It's like they came from hell itself. Not even the norsemen fight with such brutality and savagery that these monsters do. They leave nothing alive in their wake of destruction. Only a handfull of my forces survived. The peasantry were enslaved... Or worse...- She grasped tears.- Uncle proclaimed himself the Overlord of Meniranth, and took over the islands. We could offer very little resistance. What Omutt did was an act of great honor and courage. He bought us time so we can set sail here.
- Is your ship in Rockport?
- It is.
- We're leaving tomorrow. I'll finish what father had started.
