Here's my list

Hope you've heard about some of them:

1)J.R.R. Tolkien - the Professor's books are a must! The Lord Of The Rings - cool, the Hobbit - kind of childish but nice too, the Silmarillion - I'm not surprised if you didn't heard of it, this is a hard to read book, it's about the world of The Professor from it's beginning.

2)Anthony Piers - I've read his Xanth series (too bad that not all of the books) - they are good, very good. I especially like them because of his magic world, maybe weird or chilish, but it's a full world, original one. also I've read his "Macroscope" - it's completely different from Xanth, but it is very interesting in spite of it's oldness.

3)Terry Pratchett - His DiscWorld series are hularios. They're better from book to book. The firs one was not as good as the others, but it's one of many !

I didn't read the "Chapaev i pustota" because of the weird name. Did you ever read Sergey Lukianenko ?

Misunderstandind suits better. I should tell not "War and People", but "War and the World" [the meaning is the same, but it's better that way]

HG Wells was the one that wrote war of the worlds!

I was mega disappointed when i read the Alchemist, i guess maybe it had been too hyped by my friends, and just wasnt the right time.

I remember when i read the celestine prophecy, it was at the exact point in my life that i was meant to read it, just fitted in so well and seemed to make things clear. I think thats what the alchemist did for my friends.....

I like all of Terry Brooks, J.R.R. Tolkien, and a nifty little series called "The Immortals" by Tamora Pierce that gives a new view on arcane and druidish magic (summoning aid by use of animals) and how creatures use magic.
