Poll Question:
Would an Eastern inspired faction fit into the HoMM(6) universe?

As an East Asian person myself, I am always happy to see Eastern inspired things in the games that I play. Especially in HoMM3, I always find myself sticking around the town screen of the Rampart, 'cause it's really beautiful. In HoMM4, I even notice that one of the male necromancers has Chinese characters (probably tattooed) on his face.

However, what if a full fledge Eastern style faction was made? China, Japan and Korea are so interwined in culture and rich in mythology, I find it such a waste that an Eastern inspired faction is not added, even for variety's sake. We can have the Eastern dragons to represent the "good" dragons, as they did in the Rampart town (unlike the West, dragons are divine and generally non-evil). Kirins and Guardian Dogs are also mutual mythological creatures of the East.

We got the Japanese assassins and armored swordsmen, and the rest of their unique mythological creatures, like the Kappa, etc.
We got the Chinese monks, martial artists, unamored swordsmen, Taoist druid-like priests, dragon turtles, and even their unique phoenix (not a firebird).

There is so much potential, and I would certainly like to see this in HoMM6, but what do you think? How will it fit into the HoMM universe?

Responses:
Yes, I think it will fit nicely.
No, I do not think it fits at all.
I have mixed feelings about this.

Well according to the concept art, Naga are supposed to have a Chinese-ish building set, don't know how you feel about that.

Yes, would fit nicely. If they can pull off a Middle-Eastern inspired faction, it would be the same for a Far Eastern one. And yes I always thought Rampart had hints to this with the Gold Dragon and the architecture. I think the sea serpent is also Far Eastern inspired (at least in Final Fantasy games it totally is), so we'll have more stuff in this style coming up, hopefully a faction will be implemented later on.

I never seen it before, thanks!
For me, naga could totally be eastern in appearance and feel, it's a niche that Heroes games haven't really explored yet.

I would like a Far Eastern faction, but... It doesn't really seem to fit in the Heroes universe. I can't really explain it, but it just feels... wrong. I voted mixed feelings, by the way.

Danny from one of the posts above did mention something that I didn't quite realize. We had the Norse(?) inspired dwarves and Middle Eastern Academy in H5. Coupled by the fact that we have H3 Rampart architecture resembling our East Asian styles, I don't see why they can't make one.

I think the developers should know that it has a large market in the Chinese communities, and probably even Japan. As you can see, we even see here a pretty "official" website for the Chinese HoMM fans.

Normally I'm quite optimistic about certain things that I hope will be in the game will usually make it in. However this time, although I would love to see this in H6, I can't help but feel a discouraging sensation that they probably won't be introducing the "Far Easterners". From what I have heard, they are only changing certain mechanics, playstyle, and then mostly sticking with the classic "Heroes" feeling. This seem pretty obvious that there won't be anything new in terms of factions.

I hope there will be one. I love variety in styles and mythologic creatures (see some of my own ideas here).

Far eastern in design is all good. Could be Naga or something else.

But I'm not so keen on having a faction of eastern inspired mythological creatures. It should be used in the context of a separate faction.

Meh... i'd prefer if the influences where more subtle, for all the factions. I really dislike the fact that they made faction race specific too... making them too culture specific just adds to that. My preference would be them keeping it mostly for architecture, and very little signs of it on units.

I doubt japanese play these games, they seems to play only their stuff, they looks isolated like North Korea tbh. Just my humble opinion. I also had a feeling homm series have more european setting.

China, Japan and Korea share a lot of games especially in the MMO universe, but you are right, I am not sure if they play games like HoMM.

No factions in HoMM have ever been fully inspired by one single culture. The H3 Dungeon was mostly Greek myth, but that's it. It wouldn't make sense to populate a faction with nothing but Far Eastern creatures just for the sake of it.

D&D seems to be a popular source for space-filler units (troglodytes, beholders, bull-gorgons, etc.).

China, Japan and Korea share a lot of games especially in the MMO universe, but you are right, I am not sure if they play games like HoMM.

Heroes is not popular in both China(More and more games, too much choice today, Free, Pirated), South Korea(Starcraft, MMO), Japan(They have their own Japanese games)..
But Heroes series and M&M series has a great influence in China , about 10 -15 years ago, when we don't have choice in games, lots of Chinese people has played Heroes and M&M , until today, lots of people play H2-H5(h3 most), although that most young people chooes to play mmo and any other games , we still have a big fan community, perhaps the biggest one. The best Heroes forum in China, gamehome.net, fans make more then 1000 posts(only H2-H6 forum) per day now(heroworld.net belongs to Gamehome now). There are still more fans in tieba.baidu.com, ali213.net, etc....
Pirated give us new blood, also more choice, and a declining industries. Almost games can't make money in China except the mmo . As a player you may happy in China, maybe disaster too, too much choice make us can't cherish the game , and play game inattentive. As the developer.........totally disaster, especially foreign....

Oh, well....I think most Chinese fans don't like a faction in HOMM mixed with China , Korea, Japan elements..
Actually most Chinese, Korean, Japanese don't like each other....

Our standpoint is Only Chinese mythos can make another HOMM..
Actually there is , this HOMM like game also published by UBISOFT long time ago....

At last, east town artworks from heroes online

Nice pics EvilP, but not the panda. Also, I think ultimately a chinese-ish faction should include a few gunpowder units, and a dragon (or giving a few units dragonny names, and dragon-heads on their clothes).
