The panda is incredibly cheesy. It had an appearance in the Tekken games too, I always found that weird.

Nice pics EvilP, but not the panda. Also, I think ultimately a chinese-ish faction should include a few gunpowder units, and a dragon (or giving a few units dragonny names, and dragon-heads on their clothes).

We also dislike this combination too....

Thanks for the pictures EvilP, added one to my wallpaper!
I can understand the slight hostility between the China/Japan/Korea communities, but  must admit I mentioned them because I know Japanese culture is very popular in the West. This thread probably won't be active if I only mentioned Chinese, or Korean, as we not that popular in the Western world.

No factions in HoMM have ever been fully inspired by one single culture. The H3 Dungeon was mostly Greek myth, but that's it. It wouldn't make sense to populate a faction with nothing but Far Eastern creatures just for the sake of it.

In reply to this, I didn't mean to make one faction fully Far Eastern in design. I merely said "inspired". There are many factions from previous heroes series that are quite obvious in design; H3 Dungeon-Greek, H5 Academy-Middle Eastern, H3 Rampart-Far Eastern but only in architecture, H5 Necropolis-Goth, H5 Fortress-Norse, Haven/Castle-European and this one has been in all of the series.

I don't think it will be too difficult to make one of similar design but more Eastern in style. Just look at some of units in the pictures shown by EvilP... they have much potential. The Tseun Stone Soldier, and the level 5, 6 and 7 units, are especially good ideas.

H3 Dungeon is not really Greek inspired. The fact that it uses a bunch of Greek mythological creatures doesn't really mean anything, because Greek mythological creatures dominate modern fantasy literature in general. Other than using the creatures, there's not really anything about the faction that makes it ancient Greek.

I agree that nagas and an east Asian theme (Cambodian pyramids?) could sync nicely together.

If you're just looking for a faction with Far Eastern design influences and not the specific creatures, then I think you'll be happy to see Ubi's concepts for the Naga.

Kinda weird how the female Naga has a human face but the male Naga is like a goat.

Also there are a bunch of unused H5 models in one of the stickied threads in this very forum that are like Asian-inspired and were probably going to be in an asian faction with nagas.

A pure guess, but it seems to me that these two designs are from different times during the development process. The female Naga is practically identical to H3 Naga Queens, and thus might be a very early concept art from before the Rakshasa was even developed and Naga kicked out of Academy.

Heroes tend to mix and match mythologies. Look at the Fortress in Heroes 3, most of its monsters are from Greek mythology but the town has a Central/South American theme.

As a Chinese, I be glad to see some far east element in the games, but, I have to say it's not suitable to put a particular creatures that from far east mythology or culture, because the universe of HOMM(MM:H?)is base on a mixture of the greek and western mythologies as the main structure, so it's better to put some far east element in somewhere like the elves' castle in H3, or maybe can put some creature in the far east elements like genies/Normad in middle east element, but not the particular creatures which like Chinese Dragon/Phenix, whatever because it's the Heroes of Might and Magic, not the Chinese Copy one.(BTW, I've luckly played the copied one which use the H3 engine made in the Chinese ancient mythology, it's a good try, but have to say in this part, we people need a long way to go)

Ashan only just begun in H5, and much of the world has not been explored yet. From a picture I saw of the map of Ashan, there was a region in the East described as "The Unknown East". Could it actually be reserved for such an idea? Picture here:

If they made a story of that place, I think the eastern clan will be showed up, it's up to them

I'm sorry Cepheus, I didn't notice that, but there are other maps that still show an unnamed Eastern region with nothing on it yet, like these:

You do seem a bit hostile regarding this topic of having Far Eastern elements included as part of a playable faction though, or have you always been so direct?

I don't mean to sound abrasive or anything, just factual. That map was created for an unreleased project and isn't relevant anymore.
I have no problem with Far Eastern elements - why should I? Actually I was very impressed with the artists' unique spin on the Ashan Naga when I first found those images, since I expected they'd just use a generic Atlantean style and be done with it.

I'd prefer to see some sort of jungle kingdom on those islands, why not give the Karthal Peninsula (if that's what it's called) and the Twilight Archipelago over to the Naga? Also, anyone have any clue about those two cities east of Talonguard (not Stonehelm, the silver one and the yellow one)?

South East asia (Indonesia, India and Thailand) might fit with east-themes faction, the "color" slightly different than those of China or Japan Culture but since they mention Naga, It would make sense to have an eastern faction based on Hindu Myth:
Naga:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N%C4%81ga

In Naga they also mention about Garuda and Jatayu:
Garuda:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garuda
Jatayu:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jatayu_%28Ramayana%29

Well, in some culture Garuda and Jatayu are pictured as winged humonoid but they are also told to be in form of a very large bird (most like Roc in Sinbad) with gold feather

Ravana with many heads, hands and different weapon on each hands (not necessarily follow the extreme number):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ravana

or Hanuman, with jungle themes:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanuman

just a crazy theme-mix culture. Starting with Naga as basic initial for "East Faction" theme. With Tropical jungle/land Landscape

I hardly imagine the Heroes 6 style with these creatures in their line up

Perhaps a chinese and thailand style faction with their myth creatures (like those snake like dragons) but I don't want to see some cheesy samurai snow to satisfy anime fanboys. I don't have anything against chinese stuff but I hate japanese stuff. I don't want to see a single katana sword in the game, chinese dao I don't mind.

A middel eastern faction would be nice. Stuff taken from pre-islamic mythology.

Karthal is very likely the homeland of H6 Naga faction if that is the case.... The "silver city" is the Hall of Heroes, where Nicolai's body was laid until resurrected by Markal. The "yellow city" is a ruined pyramid or something that has to do with Dark Messiah game, along with Stonehelm.
