Changing it from Heroes of Might & Magic to Might & Magic: Heroes.

What the hell? After nearly 20 years of the established name, they change it to this... it's quite annoying.

Since I started to play Legends of the Ancients I've come to think of Infernopolis as the greatest villain in the HOMM universe.

But no unit upgrades REALLY pissed me off even when i was a kid.

Reducing the Number of Factions is the worse. 9-8 Factions (Total After Expansions) would be pefect. If the devopler's ditch creature Upgrades for future Expansions then I think 8-9 could be BALANCABLE in H6.

Few of them:

No unit upgrades (Heroes 4)

Removing that simply spoiled the fun of upgrading, the fun of getting new creatures with new abilities and variation of gameplay. Massive part of the strategy was removed. Definitely on of the worst decisions EVER!

Abandoning Heroes 3 universe and characters (Heroes 4, 5 and 6)

It's not only this it's abadoned M&M universe, the H4 part is not that big, many chars are in, and it's linked with the old story. If H6 abadon now most of H5 lore and link it with the old times ubi are going only to win more fans. H5's story was dull, the plot was flat. Removing favourite heroes of the series is definitely the WORST decisions.

*new*Removing legendary/classical creatures

I'm adding this, I mean like removing the bone dragon in H6 or removing the legendary azure dragon and many others (also liches in H4).

Reducing number of resources (Heroes 6)

This one remove huge strategy element, hope they bring them back, this may make the town development a bit boring. One of the things I like in heroes is that the game have a lot of things, most games have 3 or 4 resources or much less creatures, and in heroes you have many resources, artifacts, creatures, heroes, spells and the creatures even upg. It was so great to have all this, it was so wonderfully playing heroes when I was a kid just because of all this, removing something of it make game more simple, and that isn't that (at least imo) the heroes fans want.

Infernepolis (Heroes 4)

Well that was just lame. 'Nuff said.

*new*Adding lame factions (Heroes 5)

I'll like to add this. H5 gave us some pretty lame faction ideas, just like this new dungeon, having dark elves (DE) is just lame. We have DE in WoW, now we need to copy? Now let add dark humans, dark dwarfs, light orcs, light undeads and light demons (brilliant). Having two types of elfes one classical and one emo looking was just dull. Having the H3 dungeon was a bit mess but still much move creative and original. Dark elfes are nice idea campaign-only creatures for one game, nothing more. Dwarfs were much better idea for new factions, but still they need more variety in creatures and etc.

*new* Adding lame creatures just like the incoming spider-girl (LOL!) and that lighting buy in Castle is also pretty stupid as idea.

-------------------------------
Heroes on battlefield (Heroes 4) was just not properly made, it may work nice in other way maybe. Still not the best decision. No seperate Might and Magic heroes (Heroes 5) wasn't cool as well, major part of the gameplay was removed. Cutscenes rather than dialogue boxes when playing campaigns (Heroes 5), we can have them both, anyway I don't find a problem in it. Abandoning initiative system (Heroes 6), it wasnt that great, as well as the H3 variant, they need to ass something new, that rely on more indicators, have so much power in one only like the initiative was not very good idea. Reducing number of factions (Heroes 4, 5 and 6), well, not that bad (the H4 variant was just lame), if we have good quality in the others, and at least the core factions like castle, inferno, necro, sylvan and the orcs (maybe the wizzards also). No orcs in H5 wasn't cool, remember? Everyone was crying for them just after the game was
announced. And later it was waited in HoF but it was the dwarfs. If you ask me, we don't need new factions that much, we need to have the key factions and upg. them with more new ideas.

I voted lack of initiative. I thought it was a great idea. It makes certain units that should be fast... really fast, able to act more often than big fat heavy units, incrseaing their usefulness. But it was hard to choose. They all felt very even. Almost the worst thing about H4 Infernopolis was the snow ugly design on all units but bone dragon. snow those retarded dyslexic bowl cut vampires. And the devils... wtf? In general the design on most H4 units is snowtard butt ugly, that's perhaps my main issue with it.

@volikal

You can't really blame them for abandoning the H4 universe,

They thought the fans wanted to get as far away from H4 as possible but didn't realize that they still liked the plot.

As for the dark elves, they WERE original in their own right. How many Dark elves did you see worhshiping a giant naked woman? How many had enslaved minotaurs? Just because a species is copied it doesn't mean that everything is copied through and through, we are all sad to see original dungeon go, but seriously, giant eyes on legs would not have fit into homm5.

getting rid of resources by far to me. resources is a strategy element to the game and makes other fractions different.

I actually like H4 which I know I am in the minority in saying. H4 was a different experience then H3 but that is a good thing. It felt as if I was playing a different game which is good. H5 went back to the H3 formula which gets a thumbs up.

I am really concerned that the smaller resources will make the game more simple. I want the game to get more complicated.

No unit upgrades (Heroes 4)

A bit strange at first but than I got used to it. To be honest, HMM4 offered much more tactics than Heroes 3. For ME many of the upgrades in Heroes 3 were the original units and the non-upgraded versions were crippled versions of the units, in some cases the un-upgraded versions didnt have even one skill. Other upgrades offered a slight increase in hit points and stats, but nothing spectacular. I am not desperate in seeing tons of creatures created only for the sake of giving more creatures. I am more amused when I play with upgrades (all creatures in HMM4 actually were the upgraded units) versus upgraded creatures.

If they offer a really interesting not-upgraded creatures in HMM6 and the upgrades have significant difference with them, than this will be a good change. Otherwise it is pointless.

 Heroes on battlefield (Heroes 4)

I loved it.

 Infernepolis (Heroes 4)

Not such a good idea. Actually the worst idea in the game. My only dislike in Heroes 4.

Abandoning Heroes 3 universe and characters (Heroes 4, 5 and 6)

Heroes 3: Devils that are actually extraterestials from a mechanic society? Blasters? Wizards that make plots with creatures from a fallen UFO? Archangels that are created from the matter? Not my thing. Heroes should stick with the HIGH FANTASY theme, no forgery, no robots. The worst thing in Heroes 5 was that they made the game as LOW FANTASY game re-creating all races with much shadows in their goals.

Creating a Dragon ruled universe is another stupid decision. They can always change this creating an expansion with the story that the whole Ashan world was held in slavery from the seven dragons. In the expansion the elder gods are returning, giving inspiration to ashan heroes to fight against the dragon-gods and finish their usurpation.

Reducing number of factions (Heroes 4, 5 and 6)

Again I can live with this. I loved the aligement system in Heroes 4, it made a lot of sense and with it, you knew what drives the heroes. In heroes 5 no one knew what the heroes will do, because they changed aligement so often.

No seperate Might and Magic heroes (Heroes 5)

This was because of the laziness of the developers in Ubisoft and Nival.

Cutscenes rather than dialogue boxes when playing campaigns (Heroes 5)

Laziness again, give the characters 5-6 plain cues and skip the whole story. Make them repeat like morons "Grifin eternal" or "Asha uses all". Again I missed the amusing stories in Heroes 4. Dozens of pages, exchanging letters, thoughts and feelings - everything was made perfect and you really could sink in the story and identify with your character goals.

Taking Heroes OFF battlefiend (Heroes 5 and 6)

Not a big deal, I can always return to Heroes 4 and play with them. I understand the Heroes series as different games connected with history, world background and one main idea. Either way it works for me.

Reducing number of resources (Heroes 6)

Dragonshard has only two resources and all races were competing very hard on them. I can remember running like crazy to the spots were dragonshards were raining (in the game the crystals fall from the sky from time to time and you have to harvest them) or developing my army really fast so I could be first to empty the underground where the gold is. Very dynamic IMO.

 Abandoning initiative system (Heroes 6)

Best decision ever. I loved Heroes 4 for the simple reason that I didnt have to pump on only one stat as in Heroes 3 (speed - for the sake of the first strike to cripple enemies and to possibly halve their numbers) or as in Heroes 5 (initiative so only I could play while the enemies wait, three, four turns for my units vs one or two turns for enemies really sicks.) This was the reason I even stopped playing the Heroes 5 campaigns for months because I was so bored with this system.

I'm not sure if this is the absolute worst decision, but imo this is one of them:
Abandoning the cute graphic of Heroes 1. Heroes 2 looks nice and fine but could be better. After that, I think everything went to hell.

The cute choice over normal was most likely a matter of limitations. All sprites were drawn, no money or time likely for high poly animations like in H3 and H4.

Abandoning the initiative system of H5. Even though it had it's shortcomings(starting initiative snow up anyone?) it was a really good improvement. It made the needed difference for why I would be playing H5 and not H3 at times.

Sure, no upgrades, infernopolis were pretty bad too.
As was the complete scrap of the H3 universe to H4. I understand why it was done but did that really improve the game world? No, no it didn't.

That said, I really want another Romea&Julia story for H6. I loved the nature campaigns in H4.

EDIT: Thanks for reminding me of dragonshard, I really have to dig that up from somewhere.

Anyone who didn't vote Infernopolis is WRONG!!!!

Upgrades are nothing but resource sinks btw, and i'd rather they come up with more interesting ones (like being able to replace one alt upgrade building with another for a price, H4 really could have used that).

Thunder, H4 is dead-and-gone as far as sales are concerned, and thus Infernopolis is of concern only to those who still play it. It what's happening in H6 that we all should be thinking about.
