Nah, IMO the change was needed, shows it's not really connected to the previously games (which, let's be honest, with the amount of gameplay they've changed, you can't really say it is).

Then they shall not call it part 6 anyway, but amke it a new game. I donÄt want HoMM6 to eb a copy, but it should have connection to teh rest of the series...

I think I will start with my personal favorite: Poorly thought out balance.
Nha, the real cracker might be the horrible lore toss.

heroes on battlefield was by far the best decision ever made in heroes series. It's sad that in the beginning it was so unbalanced that it scared 80% of the players away. (h4)

The name of "Sandro" keep surfacing in the world of Ashan as well. Don't lose hope yet!

My thoughts are it's probably better to leave it that way.
I mean look at what can happen to a story if you keep wailing at it.
*cough* Starwars *cough*
Let the old universe stay the old universe, it's a great place, fun to revisit, but let's not try and resurrect it.
All good things must come to an end, lest they jump the shark and send the fanbase into a frothing rage.

Problem is many people keep wanting to see their favorite old characters appearing. One way to solve this is to make a spin-off game sometimes where different universes mixed together and let your imagination run wild.

I'm not so sure that they have completely abandoned the old universe. The H6 demons look A LOT like Kreegans, and I think that there is a serious possibility that the primordial dragons are connected to the ancients. PLUS heroes names keep appearing, Sandro, Crag Hack, etc. I seriously doubt that there is 0 connection to the old universe. Plus the old universe kind of went to snow with heroes 4 anyway. I really didn't like Axeoth. Ashan is much better IMHO, although I think that Erathia rocked.

I think the worst decision would be: "the cancellation of Forge and replace it with Conflux" IMHO!

Oh please, forge was so anachronous it wasn't funny, guns and cyborging, lasers and circular saws, I mean WTF were they smoking when they came up with those ideas?

well it is strongly related to the might and magic VII in which the Heroes 3 (Erathia, Kreegan, Deyja, etc) came from.
Besides some WOG mod (is this WOG mod?) is trying to bring back the Forge:

I dunno not following. But consider the movie Avatar, primitive battle style vs modern style is actually possible. But well let's say that it is only me.

Of the ones listed, It's probably a tie between abandoning the initiative system ( ::rolleyes:: ) and No Unit Upgrades. I didn't mind Infernopolis that much, given that I never really cared about either town. (Go Elves! ^_^)

1) Abandoning a well-made universe in favour of over-generic and boring abomination - HoMM V;
2) Depriving the heroes of their uniqueness - HoMM IV;
3) Merging certain factions and reducing the tiers in each of them to 4, 5 creatures in total (except Preserve) - HoMM IV;
4) Raplicating Castle's boring line-up (one-creature-dominated) in half of the factions - HoMM V;
5) Making most of the factions capable of only one strategical and tactical behaviour - HoMM V;
X) Randomly placed - using many 6s and 13s in the stats of Inferno's creatures - HoMM V and to much lesser extent HoMM III.

That is only true in really early or really late battles.

I'd contest the really late actually, I can play VERY differently with my units within the same faction depending on how I built my Hero.

Not in terms of effectiveness, there are a few good ones and the rest are either inferior, too risky or impossible to compete.
