I have to agree - even if it could be done, a balancing program for a game with so many millions of variables would take so long to test and develop properly that it would become counterproductive to the project. All that time and money could've gone into hiring some humans to test the maps

You needn't worry too much. We should hopefully have the chance to test and rebalance the multiplayer maps to death, and even if they're imperfect, they state they actually have a committed patch plan this time - unlike back with H5.

[quote They do an offshoot of a RMG say generating the basic shape of the map without the resources just the natural layout, then we can at least speed up the process and all we have to do is put in the blanks (castles, resources) and then they could expand it in an expansion. The best RMG was in H3.

If I'm understanding you correctly, that's a great idea. I have heard several people say they do not like creating the land and others don't like spending the time. I think having a lot of "Blanks" would be a good thing for many. I like designing the shape and features of the map as much as anything.

Maybe once H6 is out I should make a bunch of blanks to post in a blank thread. Granted anyone placing objects would see the map but at least it might not get burned in their mind as well as making the whole thing over a long stretch of time. I know you were speaking of the developers doing this but I doubt they will do this. I wonder where "they" are with the RMG? (as far as features) and if it can still be influenced? That would be handy to know.

But the heroes developers should know this, i mean logically speaking who woudn't mind an RMG even an offshoot like I mentioned above. We do know that there won't be one at the release (hopefully expansion). I was at countless forums before the releases of previous heroes games and folks talk about RMG cause it's something really that doesn't really hurt the "creator" it's just a tool. It's like an addon, these days I don't know if any of you played CIVILIZATION V but lots of people have created MODS of RMG for that game. IT's so easy to impliment even a player can do it. It's almost a NO BRAINER in my opinion.

Good point. The same is true for the "Total War" series, they may be the most active in game-modding.

I think H6 will be a different experince for us than H5. It's no secret that the Editor was not designed to be user friendly and <imo> it also makes sense that the RMG suffered along with it. Hopefully the new set of both will get back to the easy use of H3's "Tools"

What both? There's only gonna be a map editor and not a random map generator.

I thought the RMG was just not going to be relased "with the Editor". You mean there will not be a RMG at all? I thought it would be coming later.

Edit= *Will the game ship with a Random Map Generator?

No, there's not gonna be an RMG. They said it's because they're focusing on making the Map Editor instead.

Sux, doesn't it?

Wow. I got it wrong then.

I am going to guess where they are going.

We may have a problems knowing what they mean by "focusing on the Editor." Since the Editor in H5 could do the RMG thing, maybe they are just not going to have two seperate places to make a RGM? I always did think it was kind of strange to have two places to make a random map. Let's hope I am right.

ONE BIG QESTION : Will there be a need to leave guards and creatures to be able to see the map where the you explored so i doesent get grey/dark like in H4 or will it be visible all the time like in H3. If nr. 1 ( H4 ) ----> Im not buying the game ever.
If nr. 2 ( H3 )-----> Im buying the game to try it out for sure.

from the News Thread:
Quote:
In one of the Gamescon interview, Erwan talked about spying and scouting your opponent. Does this mean will get a real fog of war ? If there's one, will it be possible to affect the opponent's line of sight (like the Veil of Shroud in H3)?
The fog of war is static. Once shown it will disappear. Abilities, artifacts and buildings can help you reveaingl it.

so unless they changed their mind, it is going to be the same

A (number of) questions regarding bosses vs. neutrals

I'm a bit confused by the whole Boss concept, and I was hoping maybe we could have some light shed on this. So far, we have revealed three bosses/neutrals:

- Archangel Michael
- Mother Namtaru
- Dragon Eel

The two first seem to be very specific characters, the last one seems more like a traditional neutral creature. To add to the confusion, from the Seraph description we know that they are considered "some sort of minor off-spring/relative of the (real) Angels", which would indicate that we might in fact see some of these "real Angels" as neutrals.

Therefore, my questions are:

1) Will the specific person-bosses (Michael, Namtaru) be playable, or only be campaign characters (which you will perhaps face in a fight)?

2) Will the more general 'neutrals' be recruitable in out-of-time dwellings - like the Dragon Eel?

3) Will there be general 'neutrals' corresponding to the specific person bosses revealed so far - i.e. will there turn up a neutral 'Angel' which will be recrutable (if answer to 2 is yes); or are these 'boss' characters considered powerful examples of the already revealed Champion units (Seraph and Fate Weaver, respectively)?

What will happen now?

Michael is not actually a boss as far as I know. Most likely he's a Haven campaign hero. I could be wrong of course.

Bosses are all potentially controllable, but I think they're campaign-exclusive unless the mapmaker places or enables them.

Michael is listed as a boss in the Faction Overview thread

It will be really boring if the Bosses won't appear on regular maps. They could have added that little extra that's have been missing in the late game when you scour the land for artifacts and experience.
But of course if regular maps should have bosses then they should scale properly to provide a good challenge.

An archangel as a campaign hero?

With an archangel adventure map icon?

I like.  Especially if that suggests as well that we'll be seeing a much greater variety in the types of heroes that are available (mounted, unmounted, riding an ostrich, etc.)

EDIT:  Forgot what thread I was posting in.  But to turn this into a thread-specific post:  Does that mean that we'll be seeing greater variety in the kinds of hero icons that are available or in play?  We've seen two horse-mounted heroes, but we've also seen one hero running around on foot, which suggests that they won't all be on horses.

I'd say the Succubus is the Inferno caster, though they might have none since their weakpoint is supposed to be the low amount of support abilities.

As for the Sanctuary, well, it's everyone's guess since it's not an official faction (yet).
