since we're talking about it, I have a great quad core processor, but no dedicated card for 3D - I didn't want to spend a lot - the only games I ever play on the PC are Heroes, pretty much, and I'd like to keep the heat, noise and power usage low, but still be able to play this game well. I was looking at the Radeon HD 4850 1 GB - it's a little older, but still was highly regarded on Gizmodo's best-card-for-the-price list as it's around $100. Will that run H6 ok? I know so little about video cards - for the last decade I've just gamed on consoles, and my PC has just hammered through H5 with sheer processing power, and breezed through the other Heroes games, certainly, but it seemed like maybe it was time for an actual 3D card.

The HD 4850 would do just fine. It's almost twice as powerful as the recommended HD 3870. But it's out of production so I don't know if you can get a hold of it, unless you buy it used.

A good candidate for you might be the HD 5770, it's more powerful than the HD 4850, but has less power consumption, heat and noise. And this card is still in production and for sale. It's priced around 100$ as well.

Yes, but those cards are not in production anymore, and he was thinking of buying a card.

I think the 5670 will do fine. I know for certain that the 5770 can run H5 on highest resolution and with everything msxed, so I don't think 5670 will have too much problems with H6.

If your CPU requirements are not met you would still be able to play the game. The graphics card is the critical part. But if your CPU is too weak it might not be able to utilize the graphics card's full potential, and then you might have some problems running the game. But the recommended CPU is the weakest and cheapest you can buy today

hmmm, true, but absolutely GTX 590 or HD 6990 will be overkill for H6.

Yes, for some today's game, my PC was CPU bottlenecked, it almost run for 100% utilization and made my PC heated up. My processor is Athlon X2 5200+, the minimum requirement processor spec for H6

For efficiency, you can try my card, HD 5670, it is the most powerful card without additional power needed, so you dont have to worry about high power. About noise, I think my HD 5670 is a silent one, as for temperature it running about 45-55 C on average gaming. No need to upgrade you PSU or you CPU. It costs less than HD 5770 too, maybe around $80 or $70 if you're lucky

Thanks all for your replies, especially Nelgirith and Brukernavn! I guess that I'd be fine then with 6950, no need to spend a fortune on gtx 580...

It's just that I was so frustrated when H5 went out (ok, I had no dedicated grpahics on my laptop...) that I really wanted for once to have a flawless gaming experience...

5750 can also be going without external power, see here. A performance si a bit over 8800/9800/250GTS.

Because it's pretty hard to find in shops, I had got this one instead. So, that's for category - performance and silence - delivered for 150$.

The prices of HD5770 & HD5750 have been recently dropped about 20-30$ to make a room for a new models, ie 6770 and alike which are the same just renamed.

In your case, my recommendation would be single core ATI Radeon, like 6950. As most performance/money wise.

So, you clearly chose the best!

This has been discussed so much that one would think that every single n00b in the forum would know this was a pre-alpha version of the game where the screens were a placeholder No sense in panicking, take your time and check around a bit. The masterpost should contain all that you need to know for the time being.

This is a baseless rumour, it might be true, but we have no evidence to support it.

Regardless, I would also like this question awnsered.

It's not baseless, Max from Ubi has already confirmed it:
Quote:

- After having played a little it seems that you stray a bit from the series' strategy roots, by among other things smaller maps and the ability to enter the various cities. How correct is this?

Max: - You talked about the ability to see your buildings in full screen as they are built, and it's true that this is removed. We know that this was popular among the players...

The interactive bit is an inference from this. But he says very clearly that your buildings won't show up when you build them. They'll be shown in the menu and in the world map. That's the latest news we've got I'm afraid.

The only thing that statement gives us is that we don't have full-screen town windows, not that we don't have visible buildings post-construction.

The statement is basically so ambigious we can barely glean anything from it, I'm starting to become a lot more annoyed with Ubihole guys not knowing how to word their statements in a way that won't cause people to draw all kinds of conclusions.
A little clarity would be nice!

Let me ask the interviewer if he can cast more clarity over the matter. I'll get back to it if I get more information.

Edit: I asked him about the town picture changing as you build and if you can interact with it. This is what he answered (my translation):
"I have myself played a mission in the game, and by clicking on the town you were shown an overview of the town in a little 'pop-up'-window. Here you could build new buildings, recruit units and see a picture of your town with it's different facilities. When you build something new it will show up in this window, but not in full screen. Thus the town picture also changes. All interaction happens through the new, smaller menu."

So new buildings will actually show in the town picture, which is a very big plus for me. But all the interaction will happen through the menu just as I suspected. Also, he referred to the window as little, reaffirming my suspicion that the size will be the same as the one we saw in the pre-alpha version. That clears up some of it I guess.

That card is not (officially) supported, so the game might run ... or not. The lowest card they listed is a GeForce 8600.

It will run it, but certainly not good. You'll have to try to see if it's even playable, but you might be able to play on very low resolution with all the eye candy disabled.
