Don't Leave newbies behind!

Ubisoft should not lose sight of the new fans coming into Heroes!

Since tutorials will now be made for each faction individually it will teach Newbies a great deal. But also, please, please, PLEASE, don't skip over any story such as the 7 dragons and the importance of eclipses, or why certain factions aren't partaking in the campaign, because it will make the game score poorly.

Does anyone else agree Ubisoft should not lose sight of new players?

Why bother, the only thing that you'd have to take account of now that the other games lacked is racial skills, and I don't see any practical way of, or need for, 5 different tutorials.

To be more specific I see no reason for a recap unless the main storyline revolves around things already shown. It's nothing you can't find by browsing the official timeline.

...for me, as I was a newbie of heroes, the setting was not important at all (though that was back somewhere between H2&3 when I got to know HoMM) for me. It was about the game, which I learned by playing, which I like^^

You must be joking! "You musn't lose sight of newcomers" is the last thing Ubi needs reminding of.

Newcomer's tend not to give a flying snow about the storyline anyways. They really start caring once they become regular fans. To be honest they tend to care about the mechanical side of things first.

I agree to mamga - concerning strategy especially. Also, the fans of HoMM had it bad in the setting case, imo. ...I never got into the H5 setting, at last, since it was the second setting-scrapping (imo, the connection between H3&4 was only on paper) and I began not to care too mcuh for the setting - i mean, I never palyed HoMM for the setting ut it got extreme with H5. Never liked the whoel dragon god thing...

I don't know almost anything about Heroes lore and to be honest, it doesn't appeal to me much. I guess when it comes to HoMM, it has always been about the gameplay and not the story.

I know that it was not until very late into my playtime of HoMM that I actually started to care about the story. Probably about when I went more "hardcore" fan and started to hang at these forums.

But for a new player, the storyline, unless very simplistic (which HoMM isn't) is not something easy or rewarding to take it. Thus, it is probably mostly ignored until an interest is invoked, and by then they will probably find stuff out fo themselves. Forcing newbies to dig through a lot of story for a little gameplay is not the best way to increase the fanbase, in my opinion.

It is important to remember that until Heroes 2 (and there wasn't a lot, at that!), there was no lore in the HoMM franchise.

If an emphasis on the world of the game is to succeed, it has to be in service of the gameplay and story.  Heavenly Sword had a rich world, but the lore wasn't shoved down the player's throat; you had to experience the world around you, and as things became important to the story you learned what you needed to get through it.

The trouble with Heroes 5, when it comes to story and lore, is that they tried very hard to "sell" this new world of Ashan to a fanbase that had already grown to love Axeoth "the hard way".  We bought and paid for our knowledge of Old HoMM continuity over the course of several years of playing in it, and Ubisoft was trying to put five games worth of lore into one game.

In literary terms, 3DO wrote The Hobbit, and then the Lord of the Rings trilogy.  Ubisoft came in, then, and tried to write the Silmarillion.

I say this:  They've already sold their world to us, whether we love it or hate it.  Now it's time to make the damn game already.
