How do you install to Wineskin wrapper package?

I'm new to Wineskin and am at a loss as to how one installs the HD mod on top of a HOMM wrapper. Hopefully someone here can help me.

- Using OS X 10.6.8
- Using Winery 1.7, engine WS9Wine1.5.16 (and 1.3.10), wrapper Wineskin-2.5.8
- Using HOMM 3 complete for Windows as purchased from GOG.com

Up to here, all is fine. Game runs fine. But, I'd like to install the HD mod on top of the HOMM3 wrapper installation. This is where I break down.

- Downloaded HoMM3 HD 3.12f (from https://sites.google.com/site/heroes3hd/eng/download)
- Extracted zip outside of wrapper.
- Copied folder contents to wrapper package -> Contents -> Resources -> drive_c -> Program Files -> GOG.com -> Heroes of Might and Magic 3 Complete -> Games (although I doubt it matters - see next step)

- Ran the wrapper package's Wineskin application -> Install Software -> Choose Setup Executable, and selected the unzipped HD3Launch.exe that was unzipped outside of the wrapper (you cannot navigate to the copy inside the wrapper package)

- I receive a warning dialog "HD Compatible executables not found!" and press OK.
- The HoMM3 HD 3.12 Launcher is presented with it's dearth of instructions.
- For whatever reason, I selected Create HD exe and then Launch
Wineskin then returns "Oops! No new executables found! Maybe the installer failed…?"
- HOMM3 does not launch.
I can then launch the wrapper directly, but the HD mod is not part of it.

I have searched everywhere for help regarding this and have come up empty. Most wineskin mods just consist of either copying files or installing stand alone executables that patch the wrapper. I'm just not sure how to go about doing both. I'm thinking that it involves copying the contents of _HD3_Data directly into the HOMM3 folder where the original mss32.dll is located and redirecting the wrapper's exe, but before I continue overwriting, I would love some guidance from someone who has done this.

If your system is OS X and you wanna play Heroes 3 with features like WOG, Era 2, HD Mod and so on, i suggest using boot camp and installing Windows XP on a partition. For a game as old as this 5 GB will be more than enough. In short, everything else crashes too often, gives errors all the time and that is of course if they work at all.

The game works fine on Wineskin. Stable, no crashing, no windowing problems, no boot camp necessary. I'm really just looking for someone who has installed the HD mod using this method.

How do you install to Wineskin wrapper package?

For those who are interested, I ended up getting this working. It involves changing your wrapper package's target a couple of times.

1. After unstuffing the package, copy to your installation's main folder; in my case: wrapper package -> Contents -> Resources -> drive_c -> Program Files -> GOG.com -> Heroes of Might and Magic 3 Complete

2. Run Wineskin app from inside of wrapper package and select Advanced. Change target to HD3Launch.exe and close Wineskin.

3. Launch/run wrapper - this will launch the config utility. Set your desired resolution, etc. and then click 'Create HD exe.' Exit utility after noting name (Heroes3 HD.exe).

4. Once again, run Wineskin app from inside of wrapper package and select Advanced. Change target to the newly created exe noted above.

5. Launch/run wrapper - you are now running with the HD mod!!!



A couple of notes... I don't know if this behaviour is unique to my installation of whether this is also seen on Windows (my box is down right now).

1. Step 4 above is necessary because clicking 'Launch' from the utility does not actually launch your new HD exe. It simply launches your original.

2. Setting your resolution to anything less than your system resolution does not implement the mod. e.g. My display is set to 1280x800. If the utility/ini is configured to 1024x768 then none of it's effects are apparent. (edit - I see that something similar was noticed on Sep 3 by Wind Falcon, so I guess it's bigger than just my installation. Bothersome on my small screen.)

In HoMM3 HD 3.13f you can see how far the enemies units can move, however, that's a lot of graphical glitches. Like, part of the template not being removed/updated properly after you have attacked another unit. Otherwise really cool.

i don't like to sound like complaining since HD mod is really awesome but the problem with these new features are they are not optional one by one. for example i love the new big spell book, but some people may want to play with the old spell book having memorized which spell is on what page. this new battlefield feature is in a way practical but too eye tiring for me, but if i wanna get rid of it i have to turn off the tournament extensions all together. if only we were able to turn these features on/off like the "skip map messages" feature from the "More options (ini file)..." menu, then the HD mod would be perfect.

I agree. Being able to customizable more would be a really big plus. Not complaining, either.

Like right now, I have to use an older version to avoid these graphical glitches, but that's not always a good solution. I would have to do the same, if I didn't like the new features, which I do, but that's not the point. So I do understand it.

v3.15. Enemy movement displays only if you press ctrl while hovering over the enemy unit. This mod gets better and better on daily basis. Thank you baratorch.

I trying to play Multiplayer HD WT, but when we start the game, i get something like "HD Crash Log Error". Anyone has any idea whats the problem?

The newest HD worked perfectly before,but since i have 64bit win7 installed the autosaving function doesnt work.I tried using the autosaver program itself but it didnt work either,it just gave me some error message about it not being able to run on 64 bit win7.
Any help?

Enemy movement is awesome feature, but personaly i prefer v3.13 style (w/o holding keys).

To baratorch:
Is it possible to add enemy movement behavior to ini file?
For example:

v3.19 brings a very useful feature, right-clicking on map names in the select scenario list you can see the file names. So if you have hundreds of maps and the map name in the game list and file name are different, it's no more a nightmare to try and find the map file.

a change log text file comes with the download, it is in russian but google translate does a pretty decent job. it includes version history too.

Because wog is not liked by many. Even at minimum (And is partly incompatible with HD mod anyways).

Everyone plays by these "rules" anyways so an easy/standard way for disabling the Star Trek stuff from H3 could only help.

Something like this: Host sets some rules, Client gets them and ok's them, map is adjusted according to rules and sent to client. Neither can open and see the map .

Played a lot lately with HD mod on. (no era no wog only H3 + HD). Here my "whishes".

battle UI. Show how many you kill. No need to check life constantly etc. (I have to check it constantly). Show remaining HP in quick window. (no need for right click anymore).

- indicator on path where days end. (so you know from one glance where you will be each day). (if I ask for temporary path display would it be too much? EG: Hold CTRL down and pretend you move from place to place to see how much it costs you).

- would be nice to have double click boxes, skils, attack/defence, etc. (Now when you open a box you need to select and then click OK). Would speed things up.

- Sort heroes (maybe towns also if it is the same). I run with main + 2-3 "vetteran" secondaries and later in game 2-3 are exclusive for mills, leprechauns and dwellings. (Maybe a sleep hero on map? would help, but maybe this is far fetched sorting should do it).

Fixes.
- Fix for Siege + Armorer bug
- Fix Stables upgrading cavaliers.

ARTIFACTS
Changed text of badge of courage to display immunity to mind spells
Changed type of badge of courage from Treasure to Major
Increased gold value of badge of courage from 1000 to 8000
Changed type of Necklace of Swiftness from Treasure to Minor
Changed type of Ring of Vitality from Treasure to Minor
Changed type of Necklace of Ocean Guidance from Major to Minor
Decreased gold value of Necklace of Ocean Guidance from 10000 to 3000
Changed type of Garniture of Interference from Major to Minor
Changed type of Sandal of the Saints from Minor to Major [\i]

(This is from a fan patch and addresses most artifact "bugs").

Some stuff from WT version:
- Function for random towns before starting map. + Con Flip.

Extra whish: Gameplay change/bug fix. Archers should be able to mele attack even if they can range and hags not to return.

Except for the last one everything else is just cosmetics and bug fixes.
