Helllo guys,
I just downloaded HD mod and installed it into mine Heroes 3 Full pack + HOtA patch and when I'm trying to play the game via HD mod then exploring map is lagging - it's ok in cities and in fighting screen but exploring map looks like it would be half FPS instead of normal, smooth game.

Okay, I think we need more info. What is your PC specs? What version is your HD mod and HotA? How is HD configured? HD+? Fullscreen or window? What filter are you using, bilinear x2? Are you dating anyone? What food do you like the most? Just kidding.

It's the first time I hear anybody having performance issues on the adventure map, though.

Here we go then:
Win 7 64bit
i3, 2,1 GHz
4GB ram
GeForce 410M 1 GB

Heroes of Might and Magic 3 Complete
HD MOD - HoMM3 HD 3.673f
HOtA - HotA_1.3.2_eng_setup

Same problem w/ HD+ and w/o HD+

Well, it looks good. We need to try to boil the root of the issue down.

Is the issue only with HotA or also with Complete? Do you launch the game with any compatibility settings turned on? Is the performance issue consistent or is there any variance to it (besides being an adventure map thing). Try without HD+ and generally just try to change settings to try to get a different result.

Lags appears only with HOtA patch - but I don't want to play Completed edition cause HOtA is just faster
Also HD gives plenty of usefull tools.

I tried w/ and w/o HD+ and still same thing same as w/ and w/o compatibility settings as Win XP etc.
And there's only "lagging" problem with adventure map.
Last thing - I think I tried all of possible configurations at HD Mod and still same crap ;_;

edit
Is there a chance that you could upload your whole folder of HoMM3 with HD and HOtA patch?

@Nedox

It sounds weird. Maybe somebody knows this particular issue and can help you. I'd check my Nvidia control panel for anything odd and try a reinstall of Heroes 3 +  HD + HotA . I cannot upload my whole game even if you own a copy Heroes 3 due to copyrights.

Feature request

I want to propose an addition to the Chest Timer. Please hear me out.

While I like the concept of using the Chest Timer, I want there to be a consequence when the timer runs out in battle. Note: my proposal is probably not of use to the 'true pros', but we're probably not all playing as the 'true pros' do.

My proposal:

Start Time + 'Turn Time + Bonus Time' + Battle Time

Bonus Time is a pool of time that is added to the Turn Time, but if in a battle and the clock goes to zero then instead of the timer stopping at zero then it'll eat away of the Bonus Time.

A practical example:

Say you start with the following:

2:00 + '1.75 + 00:25' + 01.25

So you'll start with 2 minutes, and you'll have '1.75 + 00:25' = 2:00 minutes per turn. When starting a battle then 01:25 minutes will be temporarily added for that particular battle. Now, instead of the timer stopping at '0:00' then the timer will go down to a maximum of minus 25 seconds as defined. In such a case, you'll have a 01:75 minute turn the next turn; because '01:75 + 00:00' = 01:75.

I hope my suggestion is at least read.

Okay mate, thank you for your time.
Right now I'm trying last thing about which I though - installing Win XP via VMware Player.
Maybe playing via Win XP will work.

edit
It didn't help.

Well, virtualization never was great for games, nor still is. In my experience, Wine under a Linux OS, such as Ubuntu, is a much better solution for games with serious issues under a newer Windows. Anyhow, that is not the case with Heroes 3, and it should run fine under Windows 7 64-bit (I use it myself).

Do you have access to another PC where you can try the game? Preferably with the same Heroes install. If there's the same issue then the issue might lie with a corrupt install of the game. I actually doubt this a little, but it's just something to try. Do you have performance issues with any other game by chance?

Could you define further on what you mean by lagging? Is it when you move the mouse pointer around? Is it the animations like when you move a hero around?

I'm actually experiencing the same thing for my other pc. It is old, but still more than capable of running HoMM3 Complete + HD without prob. With HotA however, it lags @ adventure map. My other pc runs fine.

I recommend also posting about this issue in the HotA thread then and not only here. You guys sound like you have the same issue, but what is the root factor then? The more info included, the better, in bug reports.

Hello, I am having a problem running my HOMM3 HD,

I am getting the Error Message *Can't open file - video.vid*
Followed by *Unable to Initialize resources- Possible disk problem*

I tried running with and without the no cd box checked. I checked through this forums mostly and Did not exactly find a solution.

Sorry if I missed something simple here, I will appreciate it greatly if someone can help me solve this problem.

Thanks in Advanced

Hi. Is the file 'VIDEO.VID' present in the 'data' folder under Heroes 3? If not, then this could be the cause. If it's already there, then try a clean reinstall of Heroes 3 + HD. Also, you could try running the launcher with administrator rights in case of a security issue.

The File is in the data folder of HOMM3 yes,I did run the launcher as admin. That fixed the first issue i had.

There are 4 total files located in the Heroes 3 Data Folder.

H3bitmap.lod
H3sprite.lod
Heroes3(Au Format Sound )
VIDEO.VId

Hi,

I have a weird connection problem when using HD mod and playing Gameranger
The HD mod version is 3.673f
OS : Windows 7
Heroes 3 Complete v4.0
The game is installed on a separate partition (not the OS partition)

The problem is that when i try to start a game in gameranger it does not work: If I am hosting , the other cant join and if I am trying to join , gameranger seems that it cannot find the game and after several seconds freezes or returns to the room window. Trying to rejoin has no effect.
A successful connection happens 1 time of 10 tries lets say

I checked the launch game exe in gameranger and seems ok.
I checked the firewall and all rules for gameranger and heroes 3 are allowed on the inbound rules
I do not have router, i am connected directly with the cable and have public IP.

Maybe you can give me a hint on what to do.

Thanks in advance

It'd be nice if heroes could swap/trade artifacts when they're both in a town. The point is, I really hate having to lose move points right in the start of a game because the starting hero spawned with an artifact that I would want rather want to put on another hero.

Good idea and great suggestion for placement. Clicking on the arrows should just bring up the trade window so the player can choose what to trade and what not to. Hope it's possible to implement.

Some bugs...

Okay I got the latest HotA english and successfully installed it along with HD+ mod. Have experienced numerous crashes so far. Sometimes the game just drops me back to desktop (with no message of any kind) and sometimes it drops me to desktop with the usual message from Windows.

But this latest crash is really annoying. Playing a random 'Giant' map, using Cove town and when it comes up for Orange player's turn (comp player) it just freezes after it gets about half way through the Orange player's turn. Animation stops, the spinning hourglass cursor stops and I have to ctrl + alt +delete (in task manager it shows "Not responding" for Heroes 3).

I am using Windows XP, 4 gigs of Ram, onboard graphics card (so it sucks for modern games)and my Heroes 3 is the GOG one.

I will paste my "Crash.Log" file:
