Quote: The Phoenix will be back as a neutral creature. It will be blue because it is linked to the Moon.
"A phoenix is a mythical bird that is a fire spirit with a colorful plumage and a tail of gold and scarlet (or purple, blue, and green according to some legends). It has a 500 to 1000 year life-cycle, near the end of which it builds itself a nest of twigs that then ignites; both nest and bird burn fiercely and are reduced to ashes, from which a new, young phoenix or phoenix egg arises, reborn anew to live again."
Than it's not a Phoenix, but Moonenix. Ubi proved them again as total incompetent

Like I said comprehension would blow your mind. But you could look into Mesopotamian mythological creatures if you feel like it.

So my best guess it's a Lamassu... Kind of a weird choice for a necro unit.

"[The 4rth] a known faction from previous Heroes.
The 5th faction will be an original faction."
Original Vs Known.. Well original are Knight (Haven), Barbarian (Stronghold), Sorceress (Sylvan), and Warlock (Dungeon). Where as the previous ones not original are Wizard (Academy), Necromancer (Necropolis), Inferno, Fortress - Swamp (Naga?), and Fortress - Dwarves.
Meaning either I am over-analyzing or Sylvan OR Dungeon will be in the core. Seeing how little sense Dungeon makes without Sylvan, that strongly suggests that dungeon will come in in an expansion. The last faction is probably Academy.

You're over-analysing, the known race will be one of the ones from H5, since they've basically disavowed any connection to the previous series, so we get the option of Dungeon, Academy or Sylvan (oh sure, Fortress and Stronghold are a possibility as well, but not a big one). We have no idea what the new faction is, it could be Naga, or Free Cities, or maybe even Dragon Knights (although I'd consider that last one a little unlikely).
I don't think the Blue Moon-Phoenix is a particularly good idea, but they've had worse, like reducing the number of resources, auto-owning all mines in the AoC, removing initiative rather than fixing it, etc. so this rates sort of near the bottom of my list of gripes with them.

Yes, very weird to have this thing as the strongest Necropolis unit...
It might not reach the heights Infernopolis, but it should make the Necro purists quite upset.

Yeah, I think most people would have been loathe to ditch the bone-dragon, and I can't imagine anyone would have ditched it for this.

That's interesting, I had actually not made the Mesopotamian association myself, thinking more of the Necropolis as a Maya-style inspiration, but now that you mention it, it does actually look like this might be the theme they aim for.
Maybe they found their inspiration in "undead Persians" in 300?

Looking at that picture, and having seen the artwork, one would be tempted to think that this creature would be stone made, similar to the gargoyle. At least that's what I thought, at first. However, I'm thinking it's the fact that I kept hearing the word "sphinx" and that the picture is a stone carving or whatever which gives the feeling the creature is actually made of stone. I seriously doubt that's the case though, as I can't picture such a creature in the Necropolis ranks.
This, however, does look like an interesting addition, especially as the champion unit. My guess is it will look somewhat like this, and such a look I wouldn't find out of place at all.

nah they got their inspiration from warcraft 3, no doubt
the undead architecture in warcraft 3 is also based on ziggurats etc and that theme is enhanced even more in wow

Well, some predict that the new faction will be Naga and judging from the artwork, the naga will bear the far eastern style. In following the blue phoenix, I think naga and eastern style is not well mixed. I mean. They can make the naga faction based on the real myth like the ones I told earlier in another thread about eastern based faction. This is my post:
Quote: South East asia (Indonesia, India and Thailand) might fit with east-themes faction, the "color" slightly different than those of China or Japan Culture but since they mention Naga, It would make sense to have an eastern faction based on Hindu Myth:
Naga:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N%C4%81ga
In Naga they also mention about Garuda and Jatayu:
Garuda:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garuda
Jatayu:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jatayu_%28Ramayana%29
Well, in some culture Garuda and Jatayu are pictured as winged humonoid but they are also told to be in form of a very large bird (most like Roc in Sinbad) with gold feather
Ravana with many heads, hands and different weapon on each hands (not necessarily follow the extreme number):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ravana
or Hanuman, with jungle themes:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanuman
just a crazy theme-mix culture. Starting with Naga as basic initial for "East Faction" theme. With Tropical jungle/land Landscape
I hardly imagine the Heroes 6 style with these creatures in their line up
Just my opinion though, since the Chinese Myth is more appropriate with "Fire" based themes, you know: Chinese Phoenix, Chinese Serpent Dragon that has a fire ball in the mouth, Sun Wukong the flame monkey born from stone, Kirin the creature live in deep volcanic mountain and stuff. But the Arkath already had the Dwarven (if you know what I mean). So this Hindu myth and jungle tileset will get along pretty good with the "totally" new faction. Just my 2 cents though.

Inspired by ziggurats in W3 doesn't exactly lead to the logic of using a Mesopotamian deity, especially because supposedly this is a traditionally good creature, so it doesn't make sense to use it in Necropolis. Unless Necro is going to be a "victim" faction under the evil and oppressing Wizards. I guess they summon the Lamassu like the Wizards do it with the Rakshasa?
