Totally agree. I hoped, that if there was a shaman in the new Stronghold, it would remain a woman. The shaman(-ess) from H5 was the best looking orc female I have ever seen (comparing to, e.g. WoW's estrogen-free orc females)...
I admit, that each of the new creatures looks amazing, but they just don't fit together... the lineups of all faction - except of Necropolis - are a bit screwed up

First four games were the same(with few differences...). But...
In H5 we have Haven, Inferno, Necropolis, Academy, Dungeon and Sylvan.
In H6 we have Haven, Inferno, Necropolis, Stronghold and probably Nagas.
Almost half factions are different in initial release of these games and THAT is how the monotony is broken.


to u monotomy is broken by changing the inital factions between homm v and homm vi, i look more on the entire franchise and to me its hard to see a breakin of monotony when i look at the factions and what i see is
haven - human units dressed up in a different manner
barbarians - orc units dressed up in a different manner
inferno - demonic creatures who look in a humanlike form (2 legs 2 arms)
necro is the only one that offers diversity in creatures... that looks monotomy and laziness to me...

to make a good game one needs to leave the aspects loved by all and change the bad ones... the game that was created as a mythical world of creatures turned into no creatures at all, 90% of the creatures are some form of humanlikes... why loose all the greek mythology thingies ? who didnt like the awesome medusas, minotaurs, dragons, hydras, menticores ? no phoenix, no arch devil... all made neutrals... i understand they wanna create something new but why change the things people enjoyed having ???

of course i would rather have sylvan, but as i have stated monotony to me is not the same factions, monotomy to me is creatures within those factions... i want diversity between creatures, barbarians have far less diversity than sylvans.. but whatever.. different views...
how is that contradictory ? if the game has 10 aspects, u keep the five good ones and bring five new ones in order to improve the game, thats how its supposed to work, u dont go changing the good stuff u change the bad stuff... thats how things work in every aspect of our lives good qualities u keep and u try the improve the bad ones...thats not science fiction but basic logic and far from being contradictory... if u like it u like it... glad for u, guess i have higher standards when it comes to certain things... im very dissapointed by the entire process so far

If you'll remember, they said they wanted to have each faction have a unique feel in combat. As such, Stronghold was in retrospect an obvious choice, given how strong the rage mechanic was in TotE - although it remains to be seen if they've implemented it in a similar fashion in H6. I don't really have to bother comparing Rage with Artefacting and Favored Enemy, right?

Does anybody know anything about the combat mechanics of the other revealed factions? I hope Haven and Inferno get something better than in H5, counterstrike was meh and gating was tedious.

Gating is still in the game. Imo it was pretty cool and unique so I'm glad it's still in the game.

I'm still very curious how "Guardian Angel" will work...

Yup, now whether the "troll" is a huge Orc, Ogre or whatever remains to bee seen. It's obvious though that it is dead boring

Why, WHYYY can the Wyvern or Roc?Thunderbird not be in H6 Stronghold, since we already pretty much have 2 Orc units (Crusher and Shaman) Ogre and Troll are pretty much the same thing as Orcs, so they don't count as different to me
So basically, unfortunately the lineup will be: Goblin, Harpy, boring Orc, Centaur, boring Orc Shaman, ANOTHER ORC?!, Cyclops (which, by the way, doesn't liik impressive IMO)

Why, WHYYY can the Wyvern or Roc?Thunderbird not be in H6 Stronghold, since we already pretty much have 2 Orc units (Crusher and Shaman) Ogre and Troll are pretty much the same thing as Orcs, so they don't count as different to me

First thing that struck me:  When you remove all of the glitter and fancy rocks, trees, and water, there isn't much on the map to get.  I saw a stack of gold and a lumber mill.  This was my concern when they announced the removal of many resources, and is becoming increasingly disconcerting!

The units themselves look very good.  I'm not worried about the Shaman since I think they'll be similar to the KB shaman (more tactical w/ totems, etc) and less like the crappy H5 shaman.

It is rather interesting that they don't have a flier, and I'm wondering what the difference will be (tactically) between a large Ogre and a Cyclops.  I get the whole Smash-Smash theme, but dynamics are important too

That's a good suggestion, but the Jaguarisation could have been done to the Core Mauler, while kicking the other Orc out altogether
I must say I'm very disappointed with most of the creatures:

Goblin - ok, but such a weak creature should be taken off the battlefield IMO or be a neutral, but it's OK.
Harpy - GREAT
Mauler - Well, ok, it's an orc faction so I guess we have to deal with him, and he looks quite cool (but the mentioned Jaguarisation would be very nice)
Centaur - Female? hmm, I'm indifferent, but I don't understand what was wrong with them being male...
Orc Shaman - this is one too many now, a BORING fat Orc Shaman, what was wrong with the female Shaman in H5?! It was one of the units that were actually good and interesting.
Ogre (call it whatever, it looks like another Orc to me) - SERIOUSLY! This spot should have been taken by Wyvern or Thunderbird!
Cyclops - I don't mind them, but in the newer HOMMS, including H6, they look like YET ANOTHER ORC, just with one eye instead of two, I'd prefer Behemoths, but Cyclops is OK for me.

TOO MANY STUPID HUMANOIDS ALTOGETHER!

Edit: although it doesn't compensate for the absence of Wyverns and Rocs/Thunderbirds, the big "Orc" (the one with the massive claws), I liiked at it closely and actually, maybe THAT is the BEHEMOTH??? Because when you look at its head it really doesn't look orcish, but more animal like. That'd be great Anyone else get that impression?

I hydras aren't in the game, I can see the big NFL player with spines on his back being a troll. Someone has to carry the regeneration skill in this game and it would give the orcs (or barbarians as thay seems to be called now to say they are brand new) a regenerative brawler.

since theres alredy been 2 bad factions and 1 neutral and 1 good
and it is something completely new...

Cyclops or w/e -eh looks like a rly big orc

shaman - looks like an orc im dif clothing

centaur - im indifferent.. zebra idea is ok, i think i wuld just rather have them in the wild

So far my fav creatures in Stronghold are 1 Harpy and 2 Goblin

The best look faction remains Necropolis

And that obviously isn't a barbarian riding in on the black steed . Definitely interesting though, again it is the presence of the snake sybol mixed with a jungle/aquatic look in the masonry. More and more it seems like it might just be Naga or something similar.

Oh and in terms of that symbol in the top right, if the game required constant internet connection, then what would be the point of an icon showing that you're connected? I do believe it has something to do with internet, though, with the plug and a globe set in the background.
