Heroes 6 Guild System

All Heroes games until now had only Magic Guild building in the cities that benefits the spell-casting abilities.

Why not put more Guilds in Heroes 6, such as this:

City Guild: can be build only in the Capitol. Every month a new quest is available from it, such as:
1. "The streets from our city need to be repaired. Provide X resources for that." - reward minor artifact.
2. "Monsters are attacking our villages. Kill X monsters." - this triggers an event that places X monsters near by. Reward resources.
3. "One of our noble people has been kidnapped. Investigate this and return him in the city" - again an event is placed on the map, a hidden building in the woods or an empty building is made active. Reward major artifact.
4. "Barbarians are invading our territories. Stop them" - a neutral hero is placed on the map, heading to the city. Reward money or skill points.
etc.........

Warrior Guild:
From it captains can be hired. A captain increases the attack/defense/speed/hp of a certain stack - different levels provide captains for core/elite units and more experienced captains. Might heroes have access to more advanced captains, magic heroes to less experienced captains.

Mage Guild:
Not only spells can be learned from this guild, but new advanced spells can be researched. For advanced spells (arcane spells) the hero needs to know two spell schools. I.e. puppet master needs order and death magic, summon phoenix needs summon and life magic (I am using h4 spells system for these examples, but the combinations could be various). Or sorcery (that only magic heroes can learn) plus one magic skill.

Often thought about that!

I vote for Thieves Guild and Merchants guild also. City Guild I#d rename adventure guild maybe.

I'm a fan of the Thieves' Guild being a place to get information about quests.  But apart from Mage Guild and Thieves' Guild, I can only think of Cobbler's Guild and Hunter's Guild as being possibilities.

Warrior's Guild, deffinitely, to teach the Hero new direct attack techniques.

Overly complex IMO, and 'Guilds' doesn't sound right outside of Haven anyway.

@MattII,
every city has city council that runs the daily life of the citizens, so the City Guild fits to every faction.

Warrior Guilds could fit best to Haven, Inferno. Thieves Guilds could fit to other factions, or Trade Guilds to sell artifacts or to upgrade them. Personally I like the idea of active quests that are given from the town, not fixed only on the map from the huts. This will add a lot to the gameplay in the single maps where after few months everything is explored and the map doesnt have to offer anything new - from the city quests new events could be triggered and placed on the map.

Yeah, but the term 'Guilds' IMO should be common, it's too human.

DIsagree completely. I think "guild" fits quite good for an over-factional thing. The guilds are not taking any party in the wars of the factionsbut serve anyone who pays their service.

Well that was one reason I liked Starcraft, even the buildings with identical functions had different names between the races, and that's something I'd like to see here. For example, in Haven the Mage Guild could be called Abbey, in Sylvan, (Druid's) Circle, in Necropolis, Archives, etc. Mind you, the first thing they need to do is sort out the 'Blacksmith', call the ones that produce FATents, Healers Halls or something.

As it is in many games. I do however like the way it is in Heroes. I could like name changes only where it's reasonable, for example tavern of necropolis would be good with a different name.
For the balcksmith thing I completely agree with you. After all, I think all war machines would not be built or sold in a "blacksmith"...

A strong Trade Guild could be a real pain in the ass among all factions - they could be a real factor in the Asha politics defending their own agenda and gaining power when every other faction goes down. It could be an interesting add-on to the Asha world.

City Guilds can add much depth to the different factions - inferno towns can have more offence/agressive quests, Haven towns - more defensive/protect-the-weaker quests, Elven towns (if any) quests about preserving the harmony and the woods, Dungeon towns (if any) quests about gaining more power and artifacts etc.

I think it could be done through the event system. at least in H4.
but it seems you suggest that there is a database of quests already available for each maps. of course, after a while you would be redoing the same quests, unless you can create new ones.

If the date base is large enough that should not be a problem. And all quests can have a random element - different monsters to fight, random locations, artifacts, dead-lines etc... Placed events as with the h4 editor is what I am talking about, but this should be built into any map, not just added from the map-makers and you dont have to search for a quest hut but you can take the quests from the capitol.

You know this is already covered by Seer Huts right? Besides, the factions are already too unique IMO, I mean back in H3 if you found a her with a cool specialty that wasn't of your faction yo debated about recruiting him because you'd have to give him some of your creatures that could be better spent on your adventuring hero. Now in H5 no-one would even dream of choosing a hero outside of their own faction unless they captured an enemy town, for one thing his morale would probably drop like a stone, and for another his racial skill would be absolutely worthless.

Reading here and there people opinions and wishes, I wonder why Ubi and Black Hole should bother themselves with something new. The resistance of human mind to new things amazes me. I think they should just copy Heroes 2 as Heroes 6, than release an add-on just as H3 and a second one just as H5. In this way all whiners that are stuck in the past will be silenced.

Ah yes, the typical knee-jerk reaction to anyone disliking a particular new idea. I'm all up for changes, I just dislike a lot of the changes they're making (especially cutting down the resources). Look at the ideas in some of my own threads and decide if they're conservative or not.

I do not believe that was directed specifically to you, there is a lot of controversy amongst the fans when it comes to innovation. Either way let's not get out of line.

Well it might not have been aimed specifically at me, it was definitely aimed in my direction (I'm the only one to have strongly disagreed with the idea), so I just thought I'd let him know that us oldsters have been theorycrafting for a while now (since before H5 in some cases I've no doubt), and we've actually come up with a huge number of new ideas, ranging from mere tweaks to some fairly revolutionary concepts.

Don't be too harsh, here. Except some rare voices, which you'll find anywhere, most people ARE open to changes, here, I think. But HoMM should stay HoMM, or they can just make a different game and don't pretend it would be homm^^ Don't get me wrong I WANT to have many many new things and am quite open, but several changes I read of are quite to my distaste. Also, I think this STILL IS A SEQUEL, not a new game, and in a sequel, I want a connection to the prequel, and since the allways-loose story-connection was broken latest with H5, I'd prefer to have a connection in gameplay.

And matt, you're right, here have been many concepts and ideas, including guild, but it woudl be hard for someone not having been here so long to browse through them, especially since many aren't listed in the sorted list of the altar, as far as I know?!

I'm not that sure

Most people are against changes but yet, those same people are the first complaining when a sequel introduce little to no changes I remember how Heroes 4 was called an heresy (among other stronger words) for all the changes it was bringing and the same people cried about H5 being a copy-paste of H3 in 3D ^^
