Heroes II with windows 7-Want to still play this ancient game!

I want to try and get a Heroes II OMM to work on my new laptop which has windows 7- i've been looking online at a ton of sites for a new download to buy thats compatible (bc I dont want to mess with the DOS stuff cause im not super proficient with a PC and dont wanna mess anything up). Anyone know a site selling this game in workable form for Windows 7 or a way to fix mine? I love this ancient beast game and want to continue playing

Good Old Games are selling it but it's not so cheap.

I know this thread is about Windows 7 but I think it may be useful for somebody to note here as a "workaround" that according to my experiment Heroes of Might and Magic 2 works without any problem with Wine on Ubuntu Linux. Ubuntu is free and open source and it can be used without installing to hard disk thanks to its "Live CD" which is cmopletely free to download and use.

GoG is surely a good way to play the game on Windows. I think this game surely worths their price.

@Cepheus

Any idea what the difference is between UBI $10.07 and "Sold out Software $11.75"? I see the 'H3 and H4 complete' listed from both at Amazon. Makes no sense. UBI's selling it so who are the SoS guys.

Also 'H2 Gold' versus 'HoMM Compendium' w/ H1, H2 and King's bounty?

Just picked this up from GoG.com.  My original copy is at home and I don't want to tinker with trying to get it to work on my current rig.

It's so nostalgic hearing the title music.

$10 is not so much money to pay for the best game ever made.

Agreed.  In my opinion, Heroes of Might & Magic II is the best of the series.
