How to make AI build units?

After some earlier attempts at map making I've now got a map that's finished, except, it's way too easy.
I'm normally play testing the map on 130 - 160%, and I like the way it plays, but the AI is woeful; it builds only about half the units that I'm building, so that's no fun.
It's a large map with all 6 sides playable, and I like to keep them all playable. Of course, it would be easy to make a side strong if I made it an AI only side, but I like to give the human player options, so that would be a last resort.

One thing that I'm considering as a possible cause for the weakness of the AI is that the starting castles have no fort yet. Some snooping around for wood and ore must be done first before a fort can be built. Would this be something the AI has a problem with, perhaps?
There are reasonable buffers between the players, dragons mostly, so contact is not too early, I think.

Uploading my map would be difficult at the moment, as I have no internet, so that's a bit of a complication, but maybe someone still has some ideas?

Blast! I forgot something important; it's a Heroes 3 map - Shadow of Death.

Timed events in towns which apply only to computer players?

Is that possible? That would solve everything. Yeah, I saw the check box 'apply to computer players' of course, but because there's no 'apply to human players' check box, I thought the human would get it automatically.
Time for some new tests! Thanks for your answer.

Events in towns have two checkboxes, you must be talking about adventure map event.

Exactly that; I hadn't looked at the event in towns, and just knew about those blue balloons events.
But it's all clear now, I've done some testing and it works the way you said.
Gifting the AI a fort and the first 4 creature dwellings has already made a difference to my map; AI is a bit more interesting as an opponant now. They could still do with a few more weekly units, I'm now playing around with that.

I'm very happy with your answer, as I had overlooked this possibility myself.
The map is called 'A Picture on my Wall' by the way, and shouldn't take ages anymore before it's ready for an upload somewhere.

The map is now available for download at the maptesting page of Clelestial Heavens. Link:http://www.celestialheavens.com/index.php
Of course, testers of this map would be very welcome!

It's a great scenario, thanks for sharing! I loved the adventure map, looks polished. Also enjoyed the little things, like that single Faerie that you simply know is going to join you if you save it! Played it SoD, 200%, Blue, Castle. The lack of Forts is a decent challenge early on (gave up on my first try because I felt I didn't expand fast enough, so don't worry about the AI). Bugs: the Spell Scroll at 13/63/1 has a misplaced guard (the random monster); Uland is for some reason called Lord Haart (not your fault, I guess). Suggestions: ban Dimension Door too, make the quests more worthwhile (e.g. +2 Attack instead of +2 Morale). Again, good job!

Thanks for your reply, Vlaad!
200% will indeed guarantee a slow start, I've only tried 130 - 160% and that is already slow. Deliberately so, though; level 7 troops you'll have to wait a while for, they tend to make fodder of everything below them, while I wanted to make a bit more fun for low level troops.
I could be a bit uncomfortable starting out on this map for the first time, though, with not enough wood and ore for a quick build-up of your castle.

Between Uland and Lord Haart I must have made a mix up. In earlier versions I had Lord Haart instead of Uland, until I discovered that Lord Haart was not an 'identity' in the editor, so I couldn't use him for a quest. Because of that I changed all mentionings of Lord Haart to Uland, but I must have forgotten the name next to the portrait in the editor...

I'll have a look at the quest rewards. Did I really make a quest that just gives +2 morale? That seems wrong!

My personal favourite start positions are Orange and Pink until now. Blue is furthest away from water, perhaps that's why I care less for it.
