Two Words: Civ 5.

Seriously FIVE fricking Dollars for a Civ? You gotta be kidding me.

Have you seen fan forums? They could as well want 15$ for it. Some people will buy it no matter what and make excuses for every outrageous price.

Or they are members of dev team posting there. who knows.

At CivFanatics though, EVERYONE seems to oppose the idea.

But whatever. Dad brought Babylon (he's one of those people who'll ALWAYS buy DLC's) and I've had some really good fun with them playing a good ol' Builder's game with them (one of the few Civs who allow such a strategy, since you don't need to worry that much about Science and Happiness)

I actually thought $5 was pretty cheap for the extra civilizations. I mean, people pay something like $100 for a limited edition which comes with what, a book and some extra artwork stuff that doesn't add anything to the game besides what I got now for $5. I could live with that.

Imagine if Ubisoft will give us another faction for Heroes 6 for 5 bucks ... wouldn't you feal that was well worth it? Of course, I don't see that as likely to happen ... [and yes, I know a new faction is a lot more work than a new civ, so I guess it's not a fair comparison]

If Ubi is going to charge me money for a new faction, it better throw in some new campaigns, maps, features, and call it a !@#$%^& expansion.

Ubisoft makes a new faction, charges 500 dollars for it and I get it off piratebay > Ubisoft doesn't make a new faction

Alc, 5 USD for just ONE CIV isn't cheap, considering how much Expansion packs add for less of a price. (Just more than just civs, they also add to the game mechanics).

But, like I said, the two DLC Civs are two of the better ones, so at least you're gonna have a ton of fun with them. Nebz in particular is awesome.

I have not played that game but 5 bucks is like NOTHING and if WoW did not have a monthly fee and you had to buy all the patches, I would easily buy them for 5 bucks and even more.

One of the good things with monthly fees is that you get all upgrades (except expansions, but even with expansions a lot of the changes are free, atleast in wow) etc for free and there is no DLC, ever.
Of course WoW has the Blizzard shop where you can buy mini-pets and change faction and server etc but it gives you no advantage over other players and it is hardly like you buy an entire area in the game.

I didn't get Civ5 yet and don't know if I will from what others have said about the game. But other Civ games have lots of mods so I'd just get additional civs through the mods that will eventually be there.

There's no DLC because you're paying for the updated content each month, and they still charge through the nose for expansions. In a sense, you could call the WoW patches DLCs, as you pay for the right to have access to them.

Valve DLC is DLC done right.

Yup, it's awesome. So if you ever want a Valve game then there is never any doubt that you should buy it, since you know you will not be r@ped for being a honest buyer and that the DLCs are FREE!

Don't forget WoW has played with DLC also (if I am not mistaken) something about a pet or mount or something that cost $ to get.

Yeah, I mentioned that. There is the Blizzard Shop where you can buy in-game pets and mounts but usually, around 50% of the money they get from those pets goes to charity.
And again, it does not give you an advantage if you buy a mini-pet over other players. So it isn't really DLC where you download a rather major part of the game. It is not like you buy the raids or dungeons in WoW and 99% of the game's constant evolution is funded by the monthly fee.
There are also some services such as changing your characters race etc that costs but again, it does not give you an advantage and I have bought some of these services (including an extremly overhyped mount once xD) myself (changing servers to where my friends play etc, that has been an amazing opportunity).

Now that i think about it... the biggest problem that i had with battleforge was that it was effectively all dlc. you had to purchase just about everything (the base game is free now but still.) I would totally play it if it was a conventional rts. it actually was fairly awesome.

The monthly fees are the DLC.
You're paying for the right to use the new content they are inserting into the game.

DLC robbery is getting even more insolent.

While reading the Fallout: New Vegas info @ wikipedia, I stumbled upon this:

   quoteLC

Downloadable content was officially announced to be in the works on August 18, 2010. There is no information out about any of the DLC that is being worked on, only that they will be published "shortly after release"

Seriously? You're telling us that you're deliberately cut off something from a game YET TO BE RELEASED and put a pricetag on it already?

This is madness. This is impudent beyond belief. They didn't even ATTEMPT to pretend extra content was developed after the release and hence selling it as separate expansion pack or even that dreaded DLC is justified...

There were times where content that hasn't made it in the game due to deadlines was released for free in subsequent patches, or improved and sold as expansion pack.

Now we can buy a game for say 30$ and then download a new sword or gun that has been purposefully cut off to sell it for 5$ later...

I don't understand why people buy DLCs.It isn't worth nether a single dollar. It is different with expansions or next games(ex.H5->H6) but DLCs?
Now I have King Arthur, the Roleplaying Wargame(No DLCs) and I have a very interesting bug:
For every 5 non auto-battles,about 1 or 2 the game crashes.

For every 10/20 game loadings, about 3 times the game crashes.
Some times you just need to browse Google to find Free DLCs other timesyou should know where to search!
