Ok I'll just put some blurp based on your explanation. So if this is up and running with the M.E., then you would work on creatures with the Editor open? I know nothing about this stuff but I had assumed that sort of stuff would be done outside the editor and then the finished product placed in the program afterward. Thanks for a reply Amigo, you've been helpful a few times now.

Maybe it is the spacebar trick then, because I did the file selection route in the Object list, the same as when you said it did not work for you. There is another setting related to this in the file that I did not do but I dont' recall off-hand what is was

Quote:
I'm not sure why that made a difference, I imagine it is just one of the map editor's bugs.

Nuff of those to go around already I'll try it again using the spacebar but why that would work and assigning in the files doesn't is pretty strange. Thanks for your response. If this works for me I'll put this oddity in the guide

I did and is just as easy, you need to choose "same as town" and pick apriopriate coordinates for target town from the list.

That what I did wrong (or didn't do). I know I didn't assign anything other than player number. Thanks Warmonger

You can do much more inside the editor than you would think of. That's what I want to show in my tutorial

btw, for your tutorial, this is a german list of all existing Ambient Lights in the editor, if you use google translator it should be no problem to know what each Ambient Light does:

I am seeing that now. I just put together a Dungeon town that looks very different. I am looking forward to see what you put together. I will link it in my Guide.

Briefly, I had thought about putting more about the "Extras" in the guide but I have had a few times where ,believe it or not, "UNDO" pops up in a flash and any unsaved work disapeers. It is a bizarre event and it has happened thrice now when I have the deeper file sturcture open.

Since a beginner is trying to learn the basics and make basically make a what I call a "vanilla H3-style" map, play it and enjoy it, I'm still staying away from the harder topics and adding links to them.

Thanks for the link to point/lights.

Could you be thinkng H3? I could do that back then but when I selct same astown there is no co-ordiates to pick from. I tired to enter the xy locations in various ways and it alwasy returns to <null>

@rdeford

I tried the space-bar bit and that is any easy way of assigning ownership but it did not make the random dwellings match the random town. What I am trying to do is have all seven (levels 1-7)dwellings match "whatever town comes up or is picked". This really IS crap.

In H3 whenever you placed a random dwelling it would always "by default" lock on to the nearest town. I hope they get that back for H6!

@ Warmonger and Rdeford

I know it's been ages but fyi, I did finally learn the simplicity of what you both tried to tell me about the "ease of placing random dwellings that match the random town".

For those new to map-making: it is as simple as high-lighting the random dwelling (whatever level), you've placed and then "hitting space-bar" and selecting from the drop down...how you desire to link the dwelling. (Full Random, Player number or a Town's XY location). All towns and their XYs (location on the map)are in the list to pick from.

@ Fuir or anyone that can answer

I hope you're still here Fuir.  I have been trying to master the "SEER's Hut" and can make a Quest. However my visual-result is shabby-looking in gameplay. I opened your "Art of War" and looked for the Huts but could not answer my question, since you were using them for another purpose.

e.g. If I want a Hero to kill a stack of Black Dragons nearby, how can I make their "image/icon" (i've tried using the #84)appear in the "Maps' Main Quest Area"? As it is when "accepting the Quest" the game shows me where the B-Dragons are...only, it adds no Pic.   When my hero goes to the hut all works well except the box on the left is white, when I look at the "new-quest". If I do a different Quest like ="bring this lesser artifact and I'll give you this better artifact" then both pics appear. Do you know how to make the creature-pic appear in the box for whatever neutral-stack is targeted?

Anyone?

Btw, For anyone that has yet to figure out how to change a single-mission map into a multiplayer-map.

(1)I saved a copy of a SM map (for safety), (2)Right-clicked & opened with 7-Zip (3) Clicked "open inside"... once on the One file that shows..."Singlemission" (4) "re-named to Multiplayer" and closed out.

When I reloaded the map in the Editor, I found MP parameters now available and was then also able to play it, both in Single and MP mode.

It's actually about hitting "properties" buton. Its icon is the same in most of IDE / deveolopment software applications, but of course casual mappers can't know that

Well, If we all new programming like you programmers do...what would you do then?

Besides Warmonger...you do realize I've had to learn the Editor nearly solo? You were lucky to be here when H5 had some sort of mapping community<L> Today, most places I walk here, all I hear is the wind in the halls.

Is somebody there?

Any idea about how to make the faces of those nasty black-dragons show up in the left box of my Quest to kill them?

Scripts

Hello I am new to these forums and I was having a hard time finding a topic which matched my specific question.  Also as this is my first post I cannot yet start a thread so I appologize in advance if I am posting in the wrong thread.  I am not a newbie in general map making but I do not know the first thing about writing scripts.  I would like to use "The King's Mosoleum" as a supteranian gate but I wouldnt even know where to start at making this happen.  I also would like to use the arena objects (the walls in particular) and have doors open as heroes aproach if possible.  Anyway any sort of information on the subject or a signpost leading me in the right direction would be much apreciated.  Thanks

I'm no scripter either (atm) but anyway check back here and I will link you to the best I can do. I know of a thread "and think" I've it saved. (It has to do with getting a bonus from the KM.) The script purpose is different of course but I would imagine the general framework would be the same with just the commands/objects/triggers etc. being different. Do you already have the best guide to scripting @CH? If not, I'll link it.

One aspect of the manual that is already handy to me, is the "lists of names and numbers of objects". As you probably already know from mapmaking; the names of Heroes "can be" different within the editor and also the parameter-lines within the map-list require a number for a given artifact.

Btw, it seems all real scripters have retired (from H5 anyway)that's why you're stuck with this info.

Edit = E.E. H5.5 should change that That's why I've gathered scripting info at times.

Wow, so I've been here long enough to run into the 1-year rule about posts. Is there anyway to override this? I am interested in continuing to tweak my map-making guide. I can understand maybe for general banter but I think this rule should be waived for any of us working on projects for the community.

So this has been happening in modding etc. too? Not helpful in some cases

@ All H5 Mapmakers and Gamers; I am in the middle of updating this guide as my new "Q-version" at EE. (Fyi, Larger maps run better)

Q's new H5 A.I. will arrive sometime in the near future and you will find that I am supporting his work and H5 map-making by various efforts by providing a spot for making and getting new maps for the "J" A.I. and its next evolution.

Learn to make an H5-map(with some help if needed), test maps & help mapmakers with your vast gaming experience, and/or discuss what makes a good particular map-type and/or share your own design ideas that you would like to be implemented.

The Q Guide

Cheers!

I've not found a way to override the 1 year post rule, other than trying to nag a moderator!

I'll head on over and check out your guide!  I've just started a map that I suspect will only work with the EE mod because it will end up with lots to do.

Thanks for working on this stuff still!

Hi everybody, and thanks for all the good work. I would have given up creating maps instantly if it wasn't for your guides and explanations. So here's the deal: Some of my mines (I think they're the reason for my problem) seem to create "light". In other words, parts of the map that should remain hidden are visible right from the start. Is there any way I can fix that? It kinda ruins the surprise, if not for me, for my friends I'd like to see play my map...
Hope there's still people here ^^

Do you mean the mines are giving the player visibility?  Removing the shroud or fog of war?

If that were the case that would make me suspect that the mines are owned by the player when you are wanting them to be neutral.

I know every time I've made a map I forgot to change the "player" setting at some point and left half the map owned by one player instead of making everything neutral.

The easiest way to fix that is to select the mine, press space-bar, and change the owner back to neutral.

I can't think of any other reason a player would be able to see a mine from the start...

But there's a few people still hanging around here and I'm sure someone can get this figured out.
