Adventure map objects

As you well know, the strategical part of the game is getting dumbed down reduced in complexity in favour of... something, hopefully. While obviously we can't scavange what's alredy exterminated - like half of the resources - I think we can still invent a thing or two regarding the adventure map itself, which could have an indirect impact on the players' strategy. The name of the topic speaks for itself, so fire away your suggestions for adventure map objects.
Note: you can offer new objects and state which of the old ones just MUST remain in the game according to you.

So, a few suggestions from me for starters:

Fake objects: This is not their name, but type. A.k.a. traps, the fake objects should be something unpleasant disguised as something pleasant. For instance - an ore mine turns to be bandit bait for careless would-be ore mine owners. Or an object which is supposed to increase certain stat suddenly spawns a bunch of demons/elementals in front of the hero who thirsts for power knowledge. The prize for defeating them could be not only XP, but also some artifact or resources. Also it doesn't have to be a fight always - it could be some nasty spell, cursing the treggering army for the next battle or killing part of it, but allowing the hero to use it himself. There could be a skill/spell/artifact who can detect such fake objects on the map.

Multi-layer dungeons: A simple version of this could be a simple Naga Bank-like object, which has more than one level for exploration and more than one bunch of neutral guardians for engagement. The battles could get harder with each layer, respectively the rewards could get bigger.
A more complex version could be a multi-layer dungeon which has some access restrictions. Like - after he clears the first layer, the hero can proceed further only with certain creatures - only Cores, only smalls, etc. Particular layers might require not just to smash the next bunch of monsters, but to do something - sacrifice some of your troops, an artifact, experience points and so on. The rewards for reaching the last layer of such a dungeon should be considerable.
Note: again this is just a type of adventure map object, the individual dwellings could have different properties as long as they stick to the basic model.

Master Astrologer's Observatory: Well, this is a name, not a type. For some gold or crystal (or whatever they want to call this crystal-like rare resource) the hero could learn in advance what will be the next week/the next several weeks dedicated to. You pay X gold, you learn whether there will be plague soon.

Sky Port: This is basically an alternative of the Fly spell. The hero can load his army on Sky Ships and get it transported over mountains and other such troublesome obstacles. Given the serious advantage he will gain with this though, there should be serious price too. A single payment won't do, so the mechanism could be like this - the hero pays a fixed sum (for example equal to the daily income from a Town Hall or City Hall at most) for himself and additionally for every other creature which will get on board. It could be something like this - 5 gold per Core creature, 15 gold per Elite, 40 gold per Champion (these are purely arbitrary numbers, the actual amount depends on many things). Once on board, the faction owning this army is charged the same amount every turn until the sky fleet lands on the desired remote location. If the faction runs out of money while in flight, the airborne army is unloaded back on the Sky Port where it initially got on board.

Transmutation Laboratory: This could be considered too complicated, but it doesn't hurt just to share it. As we will have Beastmen in the game, we could as well have a map object who can produce them. Certain creatures are combined to get other creatures. For example - a random female humanoid + Griffin + some gold gives Lamassu. Again, this is just an example. It could be used when some army needs particular creatures or just has spare "material" which could be transformed into something more useful.

Artifact Re-assembler: No, this does not allow you to create artifacts or something. It could be used to destroy certain artifact in order to pass part of its properties to another artifact. For example, hero Jov Nac Naneghem has the "Ominous Sword of Oouch!!!" artifact which gives +5 Attack and +1 Initiative to all creatures in his army (I am using the old games' terminology, remember) and the "Impenetrable Armor of the Marmot Caliph" artifact which gives + 4 Defense and +2 Spell Power respectively. He decides to destroy the sword in order to improve the armor. As a result the sword transfers 3 points of additional Attack and 1 point of additional Initiative to the armor and the resulting artefact gives the hero a bonus of +3 Attack, + 4 Defense, +2 Spell Power and +1 Initiative. The point is to release an item slot, which could be used by another artifact. In the same example Naneghem could have another sword, which gives +3 Attack and +3 Knowledge, which is competing with the Ominous Sword of Oouch for the right hand slot. So by visiting the said dwelling (and, of course, paying a nice amount of gold), he could merge the said artifacts and ultimately have slightly higher Attack and higher Knowledge than before. I think you can take it from here.

I can suggest other things, but it's late now. Time for your suggestions.

Blood Shrine: Sacrifice some of your creatures to the local evil tribe and gain crystallized dragon blood (crystals). Of course, the tribe might not like you, and decide to attack instead. It all depends.

More might come soon...

Neutral Faction Buildings
Like normal Faction's Castles, Neutral Faction Building is a control point and heroes are conquering this building able to recruit army from the related building. However, unlike faction castles, Neutral building dwellings are predetermined that means there is no dwelling building, the dwellings are preset.

The line ups are varied. It can have 3 all elite, or 1 core, 1 elite, 1 champion type. With predetermined growth on each tiers(s).

Neutral army is not affected by moral, but probably effect the moral of normal faction-related army. They also non-upgradeable creature.

Example:
Mancer's Guild
A group of renegading Wizard build their own guild for some strange experiment which appeared to require a sum of gold. For the right cost, they will willingly serve you
Growth:
- Core: N/A
- Elite 4 per week.
- Champion: N/A
Available Recruit:
Elite:
- Pyromancer
- Aquamancer
- Stormancer

Hound Kernel
Owner of this building dedicated his life to breed Hound-related creature. Some called he is a maniac, his famous name "Mad Hounder".
Mad Hounder will provide you with his best breed, for a prize that is.
Growth:
- Core: 10
- Elite: 5
- Champion: N/A
Available Recruit:
Core:
- Hunter
- Fenrir
Elite:
- White Fox
- War Hound

Hermit Hut
Before Quest
A small hut with bizarre decoration that appears to be a head of some kind of animal. You knocked at the door and a weary sinister lady welcome you with wicked smile "Hello traveler, may I asked you a favor? would you mind bring me 3 Skeletons? I will ensure the reward is worth your while".
After Quest
The Hermit grumble, reading some weird spell in front of a large cauldron, "only some Toad Musk.. but it is pretty expensive..." the Hermit grumbling, "ahh, traveler, would you like to see my collection? You can have them for a prize" She shows you her collection of bizarre creatures, you can have them for a price and maybe a sacrifice
Growth:
Core: 8
Elite: 3
Champion: 1
Available Recruit
Core:
- Giant toad
- Imp
Elite:
- Twin Headed Anaconda
- Venom Komodo
Champion:
- Grendel (Cost: x Gold + any Haven Core unit)

Anti-Mage Compound
Rumored to be the native people of the Silver Cities. These group of people experienced in a battle against powerful Wizard or Vicious Mages. They possessed a weird habit to use Mana for forging their weapons. They are great mercenaries and will serve you in exchange of some gold and mana.
Growth:
Core: 10
Elite: 4
Champion: N/A
Core:
- Mana Eater (Y Gold + 3 Mana)
- Enchantress (Z Gold + 2 Mana)
Elite:
- Alchemist (A Gold + 5 Mana)
- Mage Bane (B Gold + 7 Mana)

Beast Conflux
Before Quest
You touched a strange inscriptions on the door into a formation of Stonehenge, a loud voice echoes "ANOTHER MORTAL! PROVE YOURSELF WORTHY OF MY MINION!" (A choice will be displayed, if you answer with Yes will trigger a boss battle)
Boss: Elemental Master the Tri-Disaster.
After Quest
A maniac summoner experiment went wild, the gate of elemental planes open permanently and blocked only by a set of Stonehenge formation and some runic inscriptions. When you touched the door, you feel your mana is being absorbed...
Growth:
Core: 5
Elite: 2
Champion: 1
Core:
- Infernal Lion (3 Mana)
- Aqua Tortoise (3 Mana)
- Stone Bull (3 Mana)
Elite
- Storm Hawk (8 Mana)
- Brimstone Bear (8 Mana)
Champion
- Phoenix (15 Mana)

Etc... (put your own imagination object here)

*Some of the building required quest to be unlocked, once unlocked it will function (activated) while of course grant you the control point. If the opponent gained control of the quested Neutral Faction object, it will automatically transformed without the need of another quest. Simply put: the Quest is only available at the beginning when the considered building is still a neutral building without anyone control it.

This could provide a good decent army for your "Secondary" wandering Hero for guarding control point.

Aviary: This is where falcons and eagles are kept. You can buy them for your army. Also, if you find a lion, the wizard over there can give you something.

Ah, excellent, you have found a lion. I will combine them so you can now recruit griffins!

(the lion is guarded by some monster)

Now, you can recruit:

Core
Falcons: Extremely fast melee units, battle dive, strike and return. Low HP.

Eagles: Slower than falcons but much more durable.

Elite

Griffins: Fast, deadly units (not Haven griffins, by the way) low HP

I really like the 'Dungeons' idea and the 'Sky-port'. The artifacts one is interesting too. If you knock off a Wizard; do you get his/her special stuff to cash-in?

I desire a bridge I can sail under. Seperately, a draw-bridge would be a good item too for obvious reasons.

Good idea to ask this Q btw.

I'd suggest keeping this thread free of ideas for new creatures, especially detailed ones. That becomes messy very quickly. Focus on adventure map objects, keep extensive creature details to a minimum. Just my suggestion.

And I don't know about you guys but I find ANY place, that requires me to sacrifice part of my army, a deal-breaker. I don't care about altars of sacrifice since:

1. There's no way in hell I'm sacrificing troops I've been waiting 7 days for.
2. Even if I have a source of useless troops, I don't want to waste my gold to purchase and then sacrifice them.
3. The experience you get is not really worth it. The bonus for next battle is not really worth it. Pretty much sacrificing anything is not really worth it.

An important exception is a place that allows you to sell creatures/artifacts for resources, and for more than what you paid for them. In H5, any map that carries at least two Strongholds can make you a fortune with the slave market. That I would love to have, a way to put useless creatures/artifacts to use.

Love the fake objects idea and the sky-port. It would give the power of a two-way monolith but not be imbalanced.

Do you mean damage and healing power? As for catapult, it makes sense only with H5 siege system - but probably won't have real influence for the game as it takes only 2-3 shots to destroy a part of wall.

How about increase the effectiveness by one level (Basic -> Advanced, Advanced -> Expert)? If already at expert, it might grant an additional shot.

LOL! I can imagine a hero having triple ballista, flaming ballista, ring of war machines and this building. The ballista would go bonkers shooting five times per round! :-D

There was a map in ToE undead campaign where you come up against a demon town. That dude killed 50-60 of my archliches with his four shot ballista. I made sure to target that machine before any of his other troops.

Sacrificial Altar - a place where everyone can sacrifice artifacts and units, no matter if they are good, bad or ugly.

I wish that there will be more places where you have to choose, for example if you come to a farm you may either recruit some peasants or you can sack the farm hold for some money, and both will be restored the next week.

It is kind of sad that they will now have skill trees, that means there will be no use for universities. That map object was awesome :/

OK, so, I sum up my part then:

Neutral Faction Buildings
Like normal Faction's Castles, Neutral Faction Building is a control point and heroes are conquering this building able to recruit army from the related building. However, unlike faction castles, Neutral building dwellings are predetermined that means there is no dwelling building, the dwellings are preset.

There are many variation on neutral Faction building. Here are few points:
1. Some Neutral Faction required Specific Quest to be activated (conquered), usually bring X number of Z unit or pay a large sum of resources or even trigger a mini-boss battle.
2. You can imagine this as "high level" external dwellings but it acts as control point unlike external dwellings
3. The creatures are unique outside normal factions.
4. creatures in the Neutral Faction requires a combination of Gold, Mana or even specific unit sacrifice.
5. The line ups are varied. It can have 3 all elite, or 1 core, 1 elite, 1 champion type. With predetermined growth on each tiers(s).
6. Neutral army is not affected by moral, but will effect the moral of normal faction-related army. They are also non-upgradeable creatures.

Puzzle Master
Trigger Mini-game called Clash Puzzle. It will be in a form of Puzzle Quest of Clash of Heroes but maybe much simpler (quest object)
Rewards: Quest completion or some rare artifact or some large sum of resources (and it will be a good marketing ).

forget to answer in the thread a while

soooo. Yeah damage & healing power is the obvious way. IN H5 system, initiative could also do, maybe, but that would be hard to balance. Hit points would also be an option, but these have not so much influence, as far as I know...I sledomly atacked a catapult^^ ...in HoMM, that is^^

@agent_blerd...hmm no, that would be a bit...BAM

EDIT:

Quote:

That's not necessary. It could be an object where you get more slots or such...

as some mentioned here, more choose objects could be nice, imo...some will be (consumable, mostly, like chests, ressources, artifacts & such):

Battle:
A Battle between two opposed groups(of creatures, usually^^). Choose which group to help. You fight the other side, together with the one/s you helped. If you win, the side you helped will help you. This can be by simply joining you, by a hero joining you, by giving you ressources, artifacts, spells, etc. It could even be by giving your hero a certain permanent bonus like a character trait. (For example you have, in a battle, chosen some scouts against some annoying unicorns, and now the scouts join you, but not as fighters, but as scouts, and permanently increase your hero's sight range by 2 or such).
The nice thing abotu this is that it can be SO varied. It could be sieges, too (of buildings, more likely than towns), and fights agaisnt hero-equivalents.

Injured Outlaw:
At the side of your way, you find a person lying on the floor, obviously heavily injured. Examining them, you find they are a wanted outlaw, on which the local landlord has placed a bounty of <X>. Do you help them, or turn them over to the autorities?
It's pretty simple: You help them, the hero ('cause the perosn is one) joins you (and he'll usually be on a nice level), you turn them over, you get quite good bounty. It's up to you. The text, of course, could be changed to variations, sometimes it being an outlaw, then a fugitive, than a direct criminal, than an "heretic". And of course, the hero will probably tell you their view of the story, too, most times.

Raffle Boot:
On the field, you find a raffle booth, and for a price, you can buy a ticket. It cost 500 Gold.
Having bouhgt a ticket, you have some chance to win something, allways being given the choice for taking money or a different prize:
50%: You get a blank.
20%: You can choose between 500 gold or a minor artifact/Lvl 2 Spell/low-lvl skill.
15%: You can choose between 1000 gold or a usual artifact/Lvl 3 spell/low-midlvlskill/a weak stack of creatures.
10%: You can choose between 2000 gold or a medium artifact/Lvl 4 spell/midlvlskill//a usefull stack of creatures..
5%: You can choose between 5000 gold or a major artifact/Lvl 5 spell/Highlvlskill/a good stack of creatures.

Btw, I just thought of three of the better adventure map objects in Heroes 4:

- The pirate islands - a nice treasure location on sea.

- The dream teacher - they were pretty cool, witch each subsequent teacher giving 500 more experience more than the previous one.

- The magic shop - you could buy scrolls of spells you prefer (there was something like that in TOTE, but it sold the spells, not scrolls).

I think there would be nice to see some of these return. Plus, it won't be bad to finally have a serious Haven treasure location, for example some kind of a Vault in which to battle swarms of Pikemen and Archers to win a serious amount of gold

I think that adventure map objects should have a minor or moderate effect in the multiplayer and a minor, moderate or serious effect in single player. That's because you don't want your victory of defeat to be determined by an adventure map object insead of by yourself or other players, except in single player where you can load a saved game.

Here are my suggestions for the old ones:

"Gold or experience" chest
"Win a fight, win a prise" object
"Sphinx riddle" object (single player)
"Increase temporary movement, morale, luck..." object or subject
"Buy spells" object
"Trade resources" object
"Creature dwelling" object
"Thieves guild" object
"Gain a level for a price" object or subject
"Whirlpool" object
"Change the week effect for a price" object

Here are my suggestions for the new ones:

"Trade an artifact for an unknown artifact of the same level" object
"Fight against a mirror army of your army, without suffering losses if you win" object (single player)
"Create an Illusion of you army infront of your enemy's town for a price" object
"Have 1 very strong creature join you for a price (H4 Megadragon)" object
"Change your mount into a flying carpet for 1 day to go over obstacles" object
