If you change chariot to charioteer haven is not bad Though both oracle and bishop may be too much. Also imperial assassin while a plausible unit for middle ages human faction it would certainly never serve in an army.

Likewise witch in necro seems.. silly. A spellcaster cultist kind of unit could work in elite but more than that..

Incubus -> Doppelganger seems a bit of a stretch. Name infernal in an inferno faction heh Don't like Lucifer as top of the lineup, it's kinda pretentious plus seeing x Lucifers die sounds lame.

Bard as elite hoho Chimera doesn't feel very woodland-like.

Destroyer / Demolisher
Slayer / Tyrant
Warchief / Warlord

all sound like they do the same, beat crap out of others

Sure. I will go ahead and twist the traditional themes of these towns a bit. I'll start with Haven:

Victorian, industrial, dark, brittish, London-like Haven.
Story: In a future post-apocalyptic Ashan, the light of Elrath has forsaken the human kingdoms and they have resorted to steam-powered technology.
Haven troops are slow but very durable.

Core
Muskeeter (shooter)
Clockmen (Clockwork front-line soldiers)
Engineer (support)

Fussilator (Based on Da Vincis machine gun, AE attack)
Gyrocopter (Melee flyer)
Mechanid (mechanical tank spider)

Automaton (Steam-powered robot of murder and genocide)
____________
Over himself, over his own
body and
mind, the individual is
sovereign.
- John Stuart Mill

Have we to stay with town names from HoMM?...

I hope not...

Castle:
The town of a mighty Human empire, with their Legions and other units.

The style, as one can see, is a mix of ancient empires like Rome and late medieval Kingdoms.

Core:

Legionaire>Decurio
"And before us, more than a thousand men, standing in equal colums, row over row, fully armed, yet completely silent, waiting for orders."
->Full-armed BAsic foot-soldier, short sword, 1-throwing-spear & Tower Shield.

Lion>Firemane
"The king of Beasts, proud and strong, sits high upon his rock - watchin'"
->A Lion, tamed & trained.

Pioneer>Sapper
"Within a night, moats and pallisades had been set up around the camp, a small bastion build up swiftly and silently."
->Support unit with great siege abilities.

Elite:

Battle Medic>War Medic
"I know how to save live and how to take it, as well, 'though I prefer Saving it."
->A healer, who heals using devices instead of mp and is a very worthful supporter, too. Rides a small horse to travel quickly on the battlefield.

Chariot>War Chariot
"The wheels keep on turning. I wouldn't want to stand in their way."
->Very self-explaining.

Musketeer>Rifleman
"Fly, little Bullet. Fly and bring death to my enemies."
->Ranged fighter, uses primitive guns. (Not that primitive for the Rifleman)

Champion:

Dragon Knight>Dragon Lord
"A shadow flies before the sun, setting the men to crouch in awe."
->An armed Dragon Rider (the dragon is armed, too).

Spire:
Fanatic followers of light, these people go to the edge of any moral to vanquish what they see as "evil. They are also quite traditional.

Core:

Pilgrim>Devoted

Elite:

Purifyer>Exorcist

Witch Hunter>?

Champion:

Academy:
These Magic-users love to study, but also to do experiments. They allways seek wisdome and improvement of their abilities.

Core:

Novice>Adept
"You have still much to learn, son. It's jsut the first step on way to wisdome and power you jsut set."
->Weak Magic users. Their handling of magic is not very trained, their spells have a chance to fail. When attacked, Adepts have a chance to randomly (and cowardly) escape the attack by teleporting to a location anywhere on the battlefield. When that happens, they loose their next turn)

Arcane Spirit>Vortex Spirit
"Far from what you could call living, they are still more intelligent than a little, curious, kid like you."
->Arcane spirits are spells filled with life. It's a complex, hard-to-steer process and drains much energy out of a Mage or Wizard. However, the Arcane spirit is a good fighter, if used so and comign from the right spell/s. Arcane spirits have two random immunities & two random resistances, as well as two random weaknesses and two random attack attributes out of the following: Fire, Water, Air, Earth, Dark, Light, Mind (not for attack), Arcane, Physical. this coems because they are not very persistent in term of form.

Dancer>Belly Dancer
"She wounds her like a rose would do. Not with her thorn. A true rose will allways wound you - with her beauty."
->A female warrior. She hides her deadly blades (daggers) behidn her veils & Fabrics. Most men will find it hard to fight against the half-naked women, especially the erotic belly dancers.

Elite:

Arcane Armour>Magic Warrior
"And all the armours of the castle rattled, and stepped from their place."
->An armour brought to movement through strong enchantments. Very tough, wielding a Helberd. The Magic warrior is even stronger.

Elephant>War Elephant
"High as a house
grey as a mouse."
->Allthough the wizards prefer magical beings and use of magic, they also have some use for raw might, and this is represented by this strong, majestic being, which is controlled by a few riders. War Elephants are armoured - and honoured.

Vessel>Soulless
"...a mere shell, a shape to bind the powers which decline taking a shape for themselves."
->Vessels are poor people who bought themselves to the Wizards, or, sometimes, slaves, with whom terrible experiments have been made. Vessels are mere hosts for some astral or sometimes demonic being, which is forced into them by a summoning wizard. The beign has no chance to escape the body on their own and so is forced into a pact with their summoner. Using their vessel, they channel their energies and on the battlefield, let them loose on the Wizards enemies. Over time, they begin to hate the wizard, their vessel and any living being. The soul of the vessel is slowly destroyed the more the host occupies them, and so, slowly, a soulless is created.

Champion:

Confessor>Mother Confessor
"Order me, Mistress!"
->A female human, granted mighty power by the wizards - the power of control. Set free, this power will make an enemy yours. Also, though of ordinary size, the confessor should never be underestimated in battle, moving swift and deadly. The power of control can only be used once per day by confessors and once per battle for a mother confessor. This is, however, really strong sicne it turns a foe into an ally - forever. There is no healing nor returning once you were turned by a confessor. You will do EVERYTHING for her - even killing your old comrades.*

*The confessor idea comes from Terry Goodkind, although control through magic is a common idea. So all credits to him fo rthe general idea. But it just came to me it would fit nice in this academy.

Tower:
The Warlocks are different from the wizards. They are more power-seekers and knowledge is only one way to reach power. Creatures, Transformation, Damage and Hybrids are there proficiency, and they use darker arts then the wizards, by tradition.

Core:

Raven>Blackbeak
"quoths the raven: nevermore"
->The black Ravens are the symbol of the Tower - but not only. They are the eyes of the warlocks, but the greater races also fight in battle. Granted strength by the warlocks they are not to be underestimated.

Misformed>Dysformed
"Oh pity those poor fellows, broken and destroyed, all joy burned away."
->Failed experiments of the warlocks, the misformed are heavily crippled through continued experiments in body changing performed on them. Those misformed in battle are those which are of use for the warlocks as fighters, because their ill transformations are usuefull in battle.

Grabbers>Shriekers
"Saved by winged monkeys!"
->Grabbers are Brown monkeys, with a hint of orange to their fur, which also have wings. They are, at their best, annoying, and at their worst, dangerous. Aside the battle, warlocks often use them to gaurd prisoners or hunt anyone they seek caught, for steeling and other mischief. In battle, the monkeys are perfect for irritating the enemy and doing some damage, but need to retreat quickly - they are rather fragile.

Elite:

Werewolf>Marewolf
"It was not more the man I knew - merely a beast, and in his eyes only rage."
((I know wog had werewolves, but I didn't count that as part of the true homm series since it wasn't official)
->The wereewolf curdse doesn't ahvee it's origin in a warlock's doing, but they have learned to use & control these wild, aggressive beings quite well - especially, they learned to steer the transformation and use it in any battle. Marewolves are enhanced through powerfull dark magic.

Hippogryff>Cornogryph
"Insulting a Hippogriff might well be your last action."
->Hippogryff is related to gryffin, but has horse elements to it. They are very pride. Cornogryph also has a horn (from unicorn origin).

Champion:

Chimaera>Draemaera
"Oh great Chimaera, you Queen of our creation."
->A hybrid beast of great and versatile powers.

Necropolis:
A bit changed.

Core:

Rat Swarm>Bat Swarm
"A swirling, ugly mass swallowed them, and we new on instance we wouldn't see them again."
->Though no threat when coming alone, a swarm of rats, enraged into combat by dark arts, is a real danger.

Elite:

Champion:

Fair:
A new faction, inhabited by very various beings.
The fairs, originally travelling companionship, have begun to settle in the last century, and established a very freedom-oriented, yet well-going society, though there is a lot of crime in their towns.

Core:

Fencer>Duelist
"Thou hast spoyled me honor, so shall ya die through me blade."
->Light armored, excellent fighters, wielding a rapier. They are extremely skilled in fencing, capable of strong battle techniques.

Trickser>?
->

Elite:

Mirror>Distorting Mirror
"I went through the looking glass and came back, but not unchanged."
->The mirrors are a strange folk. Similar to humans in the shape they normally wear, but different still. They have the power to mirror their opponents on the battlefield, wich can be really worthy.

Charlatan>Illusionist
"People are stupid. They believe what they want to be true, or fear is true."
->The gnomen charlatans are experts of Illusion, and use their skill to play with their foes.

Champion:

Pyre:
The People who, in earlier days, was known as the Sylvan Elves, has suffered a lot - all their woods and towns burned in a great disaster, and them, too. They have not turned onto the path of evil, but they are no longer the kind, patient folk they were before. Burned and painfull, they have changed their ways and their allies.

Core:

Elite:

Burnt Shade>?
"Once, our voices whispered through the ancient forests - today, we ourselves just whisper through the burnt remains."
->The elves burnt in the disastrous fires couldn't find the peace of death, instead they returned as  vengefull shades - not even trully spirits, but only shades, existing only through hatred and the seek for revenge and to let out their anger.

Blind Brother>Blind Father
"I met a blind man, who taught me how to see."
->

Champion:

Great Snake>Fire Snake

More are still to come.

EDIT: Dark Lord? Anyone still active here except me?^^
