I know that "will o wisp" was first(probably D&D) but it is still a sucky name, wisp which was my point is a warcraft invention. Since it is so simple and nice, it's perfect.

Haha this faction reminds me of the land of Antiva from Dragon age, a nation filled with assassins XD. Otherwise it also reminded me the H5 dungeon.

Heh, yeah now that you mention it Liberal views and stuff... (homosexuality! Get the elf dude off my character now! No I'm not gay! I'm just trying to be nice DAMNIT!)
Quote:

just one question, where do they get their riches?

Assassination contracts, smugglery, dark arts academies and a bunch of other stuff.

Quote:

Wisp > Spook-Light
Need better name, and I wonder if a single orb of light will be especially cool hmm. Otherwise very good unit, like unstable and I like the overall concept of spiritual that all the "moon-based" units have.

Hmm yes perhaps. I've got a few suggestions from you guys.

Will-o-the-wisp is a definite never gonna happen though. So damn overused, I like Wisp better. Shorter and everyone knows it's basically the same thing.

Quote:

Phooka > Moon Phooka
Phooka is better then all unicorns and nightmares combined!
Rift Field might need some adjustment when it comes to it's balance "scale-wise". But I assume everything is subject to balance anyway. Dark Synergy, Very good

Man I'm glad to hear that
Yes the Rift Field might need some balancing. I guess it mostly depends on the growth of the Elite units though.

Quote:

Dark Artist > Invocator
Dark Might sounds "kinda" boring, but on the other hand it adds strategical thinking on both sides. Don't know really, might need a  little adjustment. Kinda cool unit otherwise, and yes it should be male, if all the hero witches are female.

Agreed on Dark Might, it was the last thing I made up for this faction at like 3:00 AM or something yesterday. Just had to think of a name so I could post it and go to sleep.

Will be changed.

Quote:

Moon Lord > Realm Guard
Perfect names(don't care that it's also from D2 since there it was an awesome unit!), however Moon Lord is a much cooler name then Realm Guard, plz change place!
Axe Sweep is fine but like you already said, it's not that interesting. Shadow Feed sounds powerful and cool, awesome for a champion unit, besides it make the Moon Lord a huge focus point for both sides and that is good.

I agree, changing the place of the names does make it sound better.
Editing the artwork is done in 5 seconds, I'll fix it tomorrow or umm... later today (damn it's late)

Quote:

Witches are awesome, Guildmaster however...
I understand the name but, it needs to go

Agreed. Will be done.

Quote:

OMG this made me really thrilled for all the awesome mods for H6 that are sure to follow
It also made me very eager to really start working on my own faction

You do that

Let's hope H6 turns out really moddable.

Btw, I think your warcraft hate clouds your judgment a bit. Chill.

EDIT:

You should give those ravens the ability to blind enemies, that would fit with ravens who peck your eyes out.

That'd be a kinda permanent blind spell wouldn't it?

The Pester ability is enough imo.

Chill out. For this faction, I am not inspired by any Blizzard game.

The one bringing Blizzard into this thread is you, not me.

You are tainted! BLIZZARD TAINT! Go take a shower and clear your head

Quote:
No it won't be permanent, just a few rounds, they peck at your eyes and then your blinded. Or maybe creatures that attack a flock must close their eyes and can miss in the process of attacking the ravens.

Completely missing attacks was one of the things that made Ghosts so ridiculous in H5.
The Pester ability reduces the Attack of the affected enemy, you can think of it as some of the creatures in the stack missing the enemy, thus reducing the damage done.

The Blind part is already integrated into the creature

EDIT: And now my body thinks I should sleep.

Very enjoyable discussions so far I'll see ya later!

Nightmares aren't really demons anyway, not in D&D at least, they serve as mounts for hags and witches, they fit the evil woods perfectly!

In that case they should be a mount-creature either for a unit or a hero. However I like the folklore version of the Nightmare better, that it's some kind of "troll" that enters people bedroom and start riding on their bellies giving the bad dreams XD
Quote:
I hate warcraft/blizzard for ******* up hundreds of monsters and creatures from fantasy and mythology and even from D&D and Tolkien...
Especially Naga, Will o Wisps, Minotaurs and Orcs are pretty much snowed up real bad... good orcs and minotaurs? My bootie...

In defense of Warcraft(just to note I don't play WoW,so don't give me that crap(no I don't think WoW is such a bad game it has just messed up my beloved warcraft storyline )) I'd say that they often take units change them and then GIVE THEM THEIR OWN NAME, which means they don't really destroy anything.

And sugar, it's all just personal opinions. You say that Warcraft has destroyed, well someone else might as well say that D&D has destroyed many mythologycal and folklore creatures.

The snake cult faction was pure awesome. It had everything. There was this atmosphere you know? It had it's parts I did not like that much but they were left in the shadow by the things I did like.

I like the faction idea of Coven itself. Blood feasts sound great. Witches excellent. Who wouldn't love faction that ends up rewriting the whole hierarchy few times a year?
There is the slight problem that last time I checked the necromancers weren't yet banished from silver cities in H6 time so why would witches be?

Main problem is the creature lineup.

Rogues I like, they're bland, ok, but they're classic and I like the skills.

Wisp I like too. Probably the most in the faction. Their ability of resist magic is little too weak, I think 1/3rd or so would be better. Interesting that you've given them ability to resist magic, not might at most would have.

The birds of prey... The skills are good, excellent even. A little too good for core unit but low health and primary skills can balance that out. Still, ravens? Birds of prey? When the ravens are in thousands and I've got no way of defending myself I might care about them. Raven's don't even have good claws or beaks to rip apart flesh with. No imagine I'm a knight in full plate armour. I could care less for some random birdie trying to peck me. It's their loss. But what if they were velociraptors with wings? I'd be very much concerned about swinging my sword at them. I quess what I'm trying to say is that they aren't BATTLEISH. They're more like a nuisance. Just does not fit into battlefield as a soldier. I'd rather make them a spell or a special ability of some other unit not an independent unit.

Werewolves I don't like. I simply don't like them as units. The unit is solid base striker. Nothing fancy. Works but I just don't like it. They're good in stories or movies but as heroes units, not so much.

Phookas I don't like. The unit is excellent as I can already see lovely tactical possibilities with it. The protection from magic combined with dark synergy and rift field make a lovely combination. But another pony? Don't we have enough of those? There's pegasi, unicorn, nigtmare, cavalier, centaur...too many ponies, the field is oversaturated.

Dark artist I don't particularly like. It's an unimaginative mage unit. Both looks and skills. The upgrade with the ability to transform into spellcasting mode sounds overpowered already. Needs work as a whole.

Moon Lord, even the name sounds bad. The style I don't like, as I said, it looks like a faun. The unit itself is a tank. The whole factions besides of werewolves(the necessary striker needed in playing) is directed at support in one way or another and the champion is a tank? I'd have wanted something that can make use of the supportive power of the other units and the hero casting. Insted I got a tank. Sure, they might rule alone but they're supposed to be the crown jewel on an army that makes use of the sneaky, unorthodox and mysterious. They do not meet the requirements. Nor do they look the part of the glorious guardians of asha's realm. They look like barbarians with hooves.

All in all the units are (some more, some less) working alone but they play badly into a team faction. They aren't coherent. Haven might be unimaginative with the gazillion and one human soldier type but at least it works well together. This one is a gathering of different ideas that don't work together so well. I understand the idea that the main force comes from the summoned creatures and the rest are the good, bad and the ugly living in the coven cities but still it's not playing together well.

Yeah that sounds pretty good with the cleansing idea. More duration is usually rather useless in the better levels.

PS. The day I'll start calling ravens birds of prey is the day they either succeed or stop trying to steal fish from my sledge. I can't take birds that in hundreds are incapable of stealing fish from a lone fisherman seriously.

I agree that the name is bad, but I don't really agree with the armor thing. Well of course they are weaker against armored targets but they're magical man so it doesn't really matter.
Maybe they actually have such sharp beaks that they can degenerate armors by relentlessly picking on them

My own Coven

Back then, I posted a H5 faction also called Coven, based on Dark Elves and evil faeries in a dark forest setting rather than underground (with monsters re-taking the Dungeon). Here's the line-up I gave them, in H6 terms:

Heroes: Blackguard (might), Witch (magic)

Units:

Core: Will' O Wisp, Dark Sister (aka Blood Fury), Blademaster
Elite: Kelpie, Moth, Werewolf
Champion: Hag

I had a minor revelation last night, I think the key-word that got to me was coherency.

I'm gonna go look for new artwork now... a few creatures will be replaced and others will be revised.

@Vokial: I honestly thought you were joking

I'm not interested in undead creatures, and if it's spiritual it should be connected to animals somehow.

@Everyone: Would you mind leaving your own faction proposals out of this thread?

Maybe I'm arrogant but I'd like the main focus of this thread to be the faction mentioned in the title.

Thanks

Man finding artwork is a b****... takes far too much of my time.
The Birds of Prey are my main concern, I'd like to replace them with a unit that serves a similar role... I already have the idea so now I just need some artwork that I can work with.

My other problem are the Dark Artists and Invocators, I think I'll change them pretty extensively. As they are right now they are pretty much standard ranged/caster unit, they need something more.

The Realm Guards and Moonlords simply need new abilities, though I am considering the possibility of replacing them with a Garuda, Sadayu or Kenku, but finding fitting artwork for that is just annoying as ****.

I'm addicted to everything looking stylish so I can't post a creature without artwork.

EDIT:

Think I'll start working on making Moonlords and Dark Artists more interesting. After that I'll see if I can replace the Birds of Prey with something.

Believe me, I know the D&D artwork books. It's the first thing that most faction-makers look through for artwork.

Personally I find most of their artwork pretty dull.

Why would I worry about people finding out haha?

Moon Lords are no longer described as guardians of Asha's realm, as that made them sound far too powerful.

I guess... maybe the Might hero could get its own version that instead of affecting spell effects boosts the damage of one of his creatures' attacks.

Would require quite a bit of balancing to work well though.

...

It's actually no surprise to me that some people do not find this faction that awesome, it's the first faction that I've released in such early stages.

It's nice to develop it with your feedback though. Makes it a bit more enjoyable than simply releasing a finished project.

Not necessarily. If you used it like ranger's style with favoured creatures. Only switchable in towns and it would work.

The real problem would be make it so that anyone doesn't just always boost the werewolves only to change to moon lords later. It would have to be somehow useful to pump up wisps instead of rogues for instance.

Something that's a bit like Favoured Enemy would indeed work. I didn't find Favoured Enemy to be all that awesome in H5 though, I felt it depended too much on what creeps you encountered in the early game.

True... a percentage increase would of course benefit a high damage creature much more. Werewolves would indeed be the best choice.

I'm unsure if there will be different racial abilities for different Hero classes in H6. No reason not to make this one different though...
