Faction: Garden

Ok, faction-making urges were triggered and needed to be sated. I can't really complete a fresh new faction until H6 is released and I can adopt the mechanics of the new game, but here's a skeleton for a faction I might develop more.

Quietly dwelling within the valleys of the towering, snow-capped Sakhsayan Mountains, lies the Hidden Kingdom of the Sakhayan Monks. Seldom breached by outsiders, the mystic, purifying fog that frequently settles in the valleys is saturated with ancient memories, occasionally giving pilgrims and inhabitants flashes of memories not their own, from times long past. It is said the peaks of the Sakhsayan Mountains are the launching point from which the deceased transcend into the spiritual realms, and as they soar and fade into the beyond, they shed and leave behind a small portion of their essence.

It is presumed the small communities of the Sakhsayans traveled into the mountain valleys seeking wild game millennia ago. The details of their beginnings are unknown, for the Sakhsayans themselves have little concern or interest in their ancient history, nor are they very thorough with chronicling current affairs. Beyond the necessities of recording threats from the outside world, the destruction of crops, and other important affairs, the chronicling of small details is perceived as vanity by the Sakhsayans.

The Hidden Kingdom is a sparsely populated communal society, with sometimes several hundred inhabitants all dwelling within a single, massive hall. They are informally governed by the most revered male monks, known as Exemplars, who in turn are often advised by the lofty and enigmatic Monkey Kings. Monkey Kings are immortals forged of magic, who usually reside on the peaks of the Sakhsayan Mountains, where common mortals can barely draw breath. Occasional tales from adventurers speak of the Monkey Kings sparring on the peaks of the mountains, jumping and flipping from one boulder to the next, locked in a seemingly eternal contest of skill and agility.

With their small population and rare interaction with their neighbors from the surrounding lowlands, little formality is needed in governing the kingdom, yet there is a strict, even dispassionate order within the Hidden Kingdom, bound together by an austere and perfectionist work ethic. Tranquil and lush gardens prosper in Sakhsayan communities, in a high and sometimes harsh altitude where only hardier vegetation will grow. The smallest children labor beside their stern and ever-demanding parents, growing up into stern, ever-demanding parents themselves. To an outsider from the Silver Cities or the Empire, the Hidden Kingdom would appear disciplined and just, but also cold and impersonal. To the Sakhsayan's, it is merely life as usual.

Aka: The Sakhsayans.
Alignment: Good
Nation: The Hidden Kingdom
Capitol: Vale of Xen Jutan
Society: Informal commune
Native Race(s): Human, Mantoid
Main Worship: Satai (S-ah-tie) Jutan; the Mantis Dragon; Elemental Dragon of Wood.
Core Philosophy: Breathe
Color Theme: Gold, Green, and Red
Native Terrain: Alpine
Symbol: The Rose of Kings

Roses of Kings are a magical plant that grow at the peaks of the Sahksayan Mountains, where no plant should be able to grow. They are roses of a solid golden hue. If a Monkey King is slain in battle, it will be reincarnated within a Rose of Kings when it blooms during coldest months of winter. They are the symbol of the Sakhsayans, representing the ever enduring Kingdom throughout the ages.

Town Music
Combat Music

Creatures:

Thorn: The plentiful spirits that dwell within the valley fog fight for the protection of the Sahksayans. Thorns are minor servants of the Mantis Dragon, and stand at only half the height of the average human. Though they cannot fly, their wing-like appendages are used in combat just like their feet and blades.
Small: This creature occupies a 1x1 tile on the battle grid.
Bloom of Blades: After this creature moves and attacks, it may select to attack again. It cannot move again after its first attack.

Magic Carpet: Woven by the most skilled elder women of the villages, often out of yak wool, the famed magic carpets of the Sakhsayan mountains are animated by the chi of deceased animals. They can deliver little damage on their own, but can be quickly mounted and ridden into battle by their dexterous allies.
Flying: This creature may move to any open tile within its movement range, regardless of any obstacles on the way.
Large: This creature occupies a 2x2 tile on the battle grid.
Aerial Mount: Friendly small humanoid creatures (Thorns, Monks, Man O' Wars, Oracles, Monkey Kings) may mount this creature for combat [The Magic Carpet is mounted by holding Ctrl and moving onto its square]. While mounted, the Magic Carpet ceases to have its own initiate.
Magic Flight: Creatures that mount the Magic Carpet now count as large, receive +2 speed, +10% initiative, +3 attack and defense, and the flying ability.

Monk: All inhabitants of the Hidden Kingdom are trained in martial warfare, but monks are the greater warriors that set aside most of their daily labors as workers to serve as protectors to the Kingdom.
Small: This creature occupies a 1x1 tile on the battle grid.
Breath of Life: Activated Ability: This creature spends 0.5 ATB to focus all of his thoughts and emotions on winning the battle. He becomes immune to frenzy, puppetmaster, confusion, and sorrow for the remainder of combat. This ability does not dispel such effects that are already in place.

Man O' War: While most mantoids are female and hearty farmers for the Hidden Kingdom, the males are born as the fearsome Man O' Wars; the soldiers among the mantoids. Man O' Wars are born to fight, and combine this with the deadly patience and discipline taught to them by their human Sakhsayan brothers.
Small: This creature occupies a 1x1 tile on the battle grid.
Shooter: This creature can inflict damage remotely. When distance to target is longer than half the arena, the target suffers only half the normal damage. Shooter cannot use ranged attack when blocked by enemy creature. If there's no Ammo Cart in the army, the number of shots is limited by available ammo.
No Melee Penalty: This creature deals full damage in melee combat despite being a Shooter.

Oracle: Oracles are the religious seers for the Forbidden Kingdom, with the power of foresight in addition to the spells they can unleash in battle.
Small: This creature occupies a 1x1 tile on the battle grid.
Foresight: Oracles can foretell the outcome of a clash in the immediate future. Oracles and adjacent friendly creatures can see exactly how many creatures they will kill on an attack, not including luck.
Spellcaster: This creature is capable of casting spells from its spellbook.

Praying Mantis: These massive mantises weigh several times more than a horse and can cause severe devastation with their barbed appendages.
Large: This creatures occupies a 2x2 title on the battle grid.
Hover: This creature never lands while in battle. Non-flying creatures suffer a -25% penalty to attack against this creature.

Monkey King: Monkey Kings are the enigmatic, immortal masters of the peaks of the Sahksayan Mountains. They possess an otherworldly skill in combat that awes and frustrates the most talented soldiers.
Small: This creature occupies a 1x1 tile on the battle grid.
Gyro Technique: Activated Ability: 1.0 ATB. The Monkey King gyrates his staff above his head, lifting him into the air so that he can dive upon his target with a brutal strike. He can target any enemy within 2 tiles. The target's armor counts as half as what it normally is, and there is no retaliation to the strike. The Monkey King will then occupy the nearest tile (if he moved during the attack).
Scale Walls: The Monkey King can move over walls as though he were a flying creature.

I think Mickey Mouse will fit better than the Monkey King as the champion of this faction...

Obvious troll is obvious.

@B-boy: That is one fricking awesome town image. Captures the mood perfectly

Not sure if I like the idea of monks and insects living together, though I guess it could work.

Personally I'd go for a more plant based line-up, continuing the style of the Thorn creature. I think it would capture the peaceful garden ZEN feeling better.

The Monk and the Monkey Lord is a bit too similar imo.

The Magic Carpet is a cool idea. How 'bout also giving the Carpet the ability to occupy friendly creatures' squares? That way the damage-dealers won't have to waste a turn to mount the Mat.

Yeah Adrius,
including a troll in this faction will be fun, since now it is ...boring and dull. A flower, a carpet (made by monks), two insects, a monk, a seer monk and a monk king.

Actually when I put it all together and read through it again, I already decided I probably won't develop this any further, for one reason: it just doesn't feel like Heroes.

Praises:

Pictures: Excellent
Names: Good
Town philosophy and theme: Good
Creatures: Moderate
Music: Excellent

Constructive criticism:

Names:

Magic Carpet seems too common and ordinary, perhaps an eastern name for a carpet would be better.

Man O' War doesn't correspond to the creature in my opinion. It's not a man and I prefer names with one or two words and without apostrophes.

You did not provide the upgrade names so it's difficult to judge these ones.

Town philosophy and theme:

Considering that this is an eastern themed town I think it is impossible that they would have little interest or concern for their ancient history, that they wouldn't be thorough in chronicling current affairs, and that they would consider recording small details as vanity. I think that an eastern themed town would be very meticulous when it comes to writing and recording events. It seems to me that you wanted to write less about them.

Creatures:

I think that Thorn is not a battle creature. And Bloom of Blades seems like it could be replaced with a simpler multiple attack ability.

I think that Magic Carpet couldn't be a battle creature on its own, so combining it with another creature would be an obvious choice. And since it would always be combined there is no need for it to be a separate creature.

Monk's Breath of Life ability seems like it would always be used right away so it might as well be a passive always on ability. Also the description of the ability doesn't correspont with a monk since they are not greedy for victory.

Oracle's Foresight ability is already provided by the game mechanics for free, I think.

Praying Mantis' Hover ability gives it protection from non flying creatures because they have to jump and reach it to attack it I guess, but the flying creatures are also on the ground when they attack so unless they attack it in mid air the same penalty goes for them as well.

Monkey King's Gyro Technique ability is very similar to Teken Yoshimitsu's attack and would not seem realistic in Heroes in my opinion. Also, what would happen if the tiles beside the enemy are occupied and how would it work if he is on the Magic Carpet?

This acually gave me a great idea.

Instead of the town being called "Gariden" call it "Brier", it gives it more a fortification feel.  I love the thorns, so work with that. The bugs all alright, I sorta agree what other peole are saying about them. I like the monkey man, just try to find a better name.

Neway I think u have somthing cool here, just needs some tweaking
