Rule suggestion about sound clips

I and others have politely asked people not to post automatic music files/youtube videos in threads.  Do we really need an official rule thread for this?  People don't post automatic pop-ups in threads do they?  Why not?

Sudden surges of loud sounds can be damaging to people's hearing if they use headphones.  There are plenty of other reasons people might not want extra sound, for example, if they are listening to music.

I feel this should be a common sense/politeness thing but apparently not.

I only did it in one thread. Was irresistable.

I agree that it should not be overused though I personally don't suffer from it all (Noscript ya know)

As long as it only stays in the VW, I see no problem with it.

I agree that it shouldn't be permitted in any other board, but it really does make for some good fun in the VW, and after all that's the whole reason the board is there in the first place.

I shouldn't have to install something that I don't want to.  Some people may not even know about firefox and noscript.

Hmm...I didn't notice it only happens in the VW.  Is that the rule?

It can be used everywhere, but I've only ever seen it used in the VW as a joke; courtesy seems to dictate against people using it in serious boards (or as serious as a board can be on HC, anyways ).

I had said the exact same thing to somebody (you know who you are) and they didn't agree with me. It's polite to consider other people. I use headphones all the time basically (because of the hours that I sleep), so to suddenly hear something quite loud does hurt a bit. It's annoying as hell and I shouldn't have to get some Firefox scripts just because some of you are tossers and disregard other people's thoughts on it because YOU think a thread is lame. Don't post the stupid links and if you do, don't make it so that they auto play. The hiding in your post thing is just pathetic because it looks like the thread is normal and bam!, out comes the loud music.

Have some respect for other people. It's not funny to have loud music suddenly playing in your ears to the point it hurts. I'm surrounded by music pretty much all day (making it and listening to it) so it hurts a bit more than it should and I personally don't want to risk going into any threads to avoid some halfwit that posts a hidden link. I like my hearing how it is thanks.

Yes, I also apologise if it annoyed anybody, although it was still worthwhile to find out how the html actually worked. I wasn't even aware it could be done at Heroes Community until Sweet Home Alabama suddenly came pouring out of my speakers. As an act of penitence, a halfwit's little guide for newcomers:

Ok, guys. It's already known at the HQ, I made a small report with variants for acting about it. The HQ is going to decide about it. I think its important, so let's what all the active mods think about it.

Until this I'll like to ask you to keep it at the VW. And please if you spot it outside the VW HCM me. I'll warn the member to del it, or ask some mod to do so.

Actually maybe it can be used pretty good at some threads outside the VW for musical background that fit the topic, and thats not a bad idea, but the HQ will decide. Thanks

It maybe be used for good and evil. So ideas are welcome

If you have headphones in, aren't you already listening to music, though?

I guess it could still be disturbing if your music is really quiet, because sometimes the songs come out really loud. But still, if I've got headphones in, I'm already listening to music so it's really not an issue, for me at least.

OR if you want to imbue it on autoplay then don't hide it. You can have width=30 height=25 and only the progress bar will be visible making it possible to pause.

Yes, I'm listening to music that I took the time to volume adjust so it's perfect i.e not too loud, not too soft. The music that people make autoplay on here is very much louder than the music I have playing. Whether it's on full blast, it's still louder, I find. Plus, I'd rather listen to music that I like and not what somebody else posts that blasts into my ears. That's just me though.

And Vok, what point does putting a link in a thread achieve? I mean, you said that it could create atmosphere but that's just stupid. This is a forum, it's SUPPOSED to be text. When I read the thread, That is the atmosphere. Whether it's a story, a suggestion or whatever. You don't need to post some link to give users some atmosphere. I like my own music playing and not some crap that somebody else posts. Thanks.

And Veco, that'd be fine. If I want to hear the music then I can just play it. But to be forced to listen to it because of autplay, that's where my main issue is and that prevents me from even reading threads. It sucks because by the time I wake up, I usually browse HC and look through threads and then find that somebody, while I was asleep, posted a link thus destroying my viewing of certain threads. It's just selfish. Because YOU don't mind them, doesn't mean that everybody will like you posting links. That's not at you, Veco, but just a general you to whoever posts the links.

Still, though, it's only used in the VW that I'd ever seen; I'd agree with you if they were in any other board, but it's hardly like VW threads can get any more derailed or destroyed than they already are.

I'm inclined to side with PR, even though I think his complaints about hearing damage are a bit overwrought.  If you've got your headphones on a volume loud enough to rupture an eardrum, I suggest you turn them down regardless of whether music is allowed in Heroes Community threads.

To the point: I access this board on occasion from work, and it's annoying to have the computer suddenly start blaring a song when I open a thread.

Or you could just put a symbol in/next to the thread name or something so that you will not get "attacked" by the sound/video.
