Duncan's Rush

“For the love of the Unicorn, what is this?” Duncan was puzzled, momentarily, as he picked up the letter. He kept on reading the letter. Once, twice. He couldn’t believe his eyes. I wasn’t drinking, thought he, as thrice he reread the letter. It was from commander of the southern border garrison. “Heavy movement from unknown red band. Too large to handle. Request immediate support…” The rest didn’t matter, but it did convey a strong message: imminent threat to the Empire.

On the eve of his wedding? Nothing could be more insane than to live out two royal weddings of an empire – the same empire – disrupted by a rebellion! Curse the land! And this time it was upon him! Knocking his forehead in disbelief, Duncan sat down. He was not shaken. He just felt… empty. What a such utter nonsense! He kept singing that line over and over again that he soon got intoxicated with it. Moment passed as he remained seated. The hall shared his pain. Distant cheering from the people working and preparing for tomorrow’s ceremony seemed rejected in the hall.

Slowly, Duncan regained his consciousness. He gazed upon the sword and shield hanging on the wall in front of him. What should I do now, he asked himself. He could lead a reinforcement and march south, and delayed his wedding. Delayed himself as king. King! King of the Unicorn Empire! To be or not to be. In an outburst, he broke laughter in his heart. Tomorrow I shall be crowned King, Duncan thought to himself, yet today I have to face this ever greatest dilemma of my life. He continued muttering, “I could delay the reinforcement until everything is done here. I would then be a king nonetheless. As I seize power, the army will be legitimate and credible under my command. Would that raise the chance of turning down the riot? Or would it be too late? My days as king would be none but numbered.” Duncan walked from one corner to another in that big room as his mind was busy weighing the options. “On the other hand, if I go now and suppress this misconduct before they get bigger, I could return and settle the unfinished business later. A true king would choose this righteous and noble path, putting forward people’s fate over own selfishness. Still, there is no guarantee of success given minimum amount of information in the letter. I might be crushed, and there shall never be ‘King Duncan’ of the Unicorn Empire.”

King. What is it? None but burden and ambition. Duncan had never thought of that in the first place when he fell in love with Freyda. Nobody had foreseen Isabel’s decision when she handed the throne to Freyda. “This isn’t my intention from the beginning,” Duncan continued, “I am happy as I ever be, so long as Freyda is next to me. She is my only concern.” That second, he felt as if a lightning bolt struck his brain. The missing link suddenly surfaced.

Freyda, where was she? And why was the letter underneath her door? Duncan immediately grabbed the sword and shield as the picture of the puzzle became more vivid. He strapped his boots, took his helmet, and flew out the hall. His instinct told him that Freyda beat him to such an important decision. He knew her well. She would not take this matter as dilemma. She would know which path to take, unquestioned. “How fool I am!” he exclaimed as he continued rushing down the aisle. No argument about her priorities. Things like this always thrashed her personal issues. “She even left me out. No saying goodbye. Yes, that is my beloved. I know her well.”

Or did he?

Duncan passed the main door and went to the stable. There was no more doubt in his mind. Only one course of action to follow. He was never going to get married, not in this situation. Whom she was going to marry with? The bride was gone. At least, so he thought.

As he rode for about a hundred meters leaving the stable, he saw Ellaine chattering with some peasants in a meadow. A job fitting her most, Duncan thought. One could never be wrong assigning the task as a spokeperson to her, to reach out the people.

“My Lord,” Ellaine greeted Duncan as he was about to pass by, “What urgent matter this could be?”

“I am looking for Queen Freyda. Did anybody see her?”

“Milady is gone?” Ellaine raised her eyebrows.

“Ah, yes! She rode out about an hour ago,” one of the peasants responded.

Duncan looked back at Ellaine.

“Must be before I got here…” Ellaine shied away from Duncan’s eyes and glanced at the peasants.

The flashes in Ellaine’s eyes raised Duncan’s guard of senses. But he would not press further at this stage. There was no time. Suspicious as he could be, he had a more urgent matter to attend to.

“Have you seen Rutger?” Duncan asked Ellaine.

“I believe he is nearby, my Lord. Would you like me to call him and meet you here?” Ellaine replied.

The peasants could feel that Duncan was not as easygoing as he used to be. They felt he was more intense in the conversation. Something had happened, they knew. They dared not interrupt the small talk between the two nobles in front of them.

“No. I am in rush. But tell him to go to Grimheim and meet our friend, King Wulfstan, and to ask him a favor that Lord Duncan needs help at the southern border. I hope he won’t be too late.”

“And where would you go, Sire?” asked Ellaine.

Duncan paused for a moment, thinking he might not need to reveal her all his plans.

Yet he responded, “I am going to assemble a small band from the castle ahead. We need to be light and swift. I will gather more men on my way south.” Duncan thought he could assess how many troops Freyda had assembled from her track. After all, he was a renowned pathfinder. He would adjust his strategy as his journey unfolded.

Those on the ground could not measure the significance of the matter. The peasants kept silent, but Ellaine continued.

“Would that be all, my Lord? Or shall I follow…”

“No, that would be all, Ellaine. I will measure further needed actions as things develop.”

“As you wish, Sire,” Ellaine nodded as she watched Duncan rode forward.

On his way to the closest castle ahead, Duncan thought of former leaders of the Holy Griffin Empire, King Nicolai and Queen Isabel. He was familiar with the story though he did not witness it all. What was supposed to be a royal marriage turn into a world chaos, bringing then a seemingly never-ending war throughout Ashan. Romance of the nobles were never easy, he chuckled. Hey, maybe one of us would follow suit and be resurrected as undead, just like King Nicolai!

Urgh! That thought gave him shiver.

Finished my part, hope you enjoyed it, guys Sorry if I’m lacking of skills in English literature. Happy to receive feedback Sorry also for this double post, I didn’t wanna mess up my story with this clarification bit. Who knows maybe one day thread got cleaned and this post can be removed, leaving only the stories.

Okay, here we go:
1. @evinin: I have to manifest your “letter” as a real object, and changed the sounded rhymed riddle into something real as the one I described in the story, but with the “message” in tact. I hope this is allowed
2. At some point, some characters might interact with each other, rather than continue as a one-sided story, so overall we can bring together our own version of Ashan past H5 Question is, how do we tackle this? I know this sounds too optimistic given the number of participants, but we need to anticipate.

So, where to go from here? I’m waiting for another “letter”?

Again I'll start from first - great job, Duncan. You've done it really great, like I said, don't worry about language and so, it's fantastic.
Second - there will be no more letters. In the beginning of each week I'll write some events (you can see that in the previous page) and then you take action and respond to the situation.
Third - if you want to include other characters (such as Freyda and Wulfstan) you'll have to work with the one who writes about then (no one in the moment). They both have letters and must take actions, so you can include them (yet). You can still use then indirectly. Don't worry - I'll give you some other problems with the narrative tomorrow.
The thing with using other characters goes to all.

Also - I'm joining, too, guys. I'll play with Zehir.

@everyone. Very good job all. What great stuff. I'm hoping I'm keeping the facts correct.

Human eyes peered down into a dark valley in the southern region of the Old Griffin Empire.. The shadow scurried back down to the bottom of the hill.
“Standing empty my tail-bone! Are you blind? There are things going on in that old Keep. I saw the front doors swing wide and some big thing go inside. You must’ve been hittin the hootch when you cooked-up this job.”

“Garn, you know I know what I’m doin. You know me, we’ve been rogues together too long.  I tell you it WAS standing vacant and I heard the locals sayin the same. Why do you think I came back to get you?”

Nevermind Dirk, shut yer trap and grab yer bag, we’re getting out of here and now. I don’t like the looks of this place.

***

“My Lord Giovanni, a messenger has arrived and waits for you in the main chamber.” Giovanni entered the large room and greeted a very large wraith. The dark messenger handed a large scroll to Giovanni.

“Lord Markal wanted his formal alliance with you placed in your hands. He looks forward to your shared plans for Heresh.” “Don’t think me rude and beyond protocol Lord, but my Master‘s instructions are that I return to him in “haste“.  What sounded like an odd laugh came from the spot where the diplomat stood. Giovanni smiled, sharing the humor about the quickening light-spell. There is something comical about imagining; rapidly stomping undead in the realm of darkness. Jokes about frantic zombies were not rare and being called one, a slur.

“Take this to Markal” said the Necromancer as he handed the messenger a scroll.“

By your leave, I will find my own way out.”  Just before leaving the hall,  the wraith paused; “Might I add also, that it is good to have you back Master Giovanni.” and then he closed the large oaken doors softly.

Giovanni unfolded the scroll and held it towards the fire-light, reading the script.  Lucretia walked in, followed by Deidrie, her recent recruitment to her brothers cause.
“Is it time for our armies to move? “she never smiled, but now, there was some form of happiness in her words.  Planned revenge is to be savored. Giovanni rolled the scroll and placed in a ornate chest sitting on a book-shelf. “We strike now. “
Giovanni’s message to Markal informed his ally that he was striking Heresh and wasting no time in beginning the war. Giovanni split their army into two forces with himself commanding half of the army while Lucretia and Deidrie lead the other part, both striking at once, the border-forts in the northern reaches of Arantir’s realm.

***

“This cannot be! “Be”…reverberated loudly in the stone chamber. Giovanni returned?!  “turned”… echoed several times.
My Border forts overrun! Overrun!  The Necromancer repeated even louder. “Destroy“…he did not finish.

He stopped and stood like smoldering rock. No one present made a move or made any sound but waited...expectantly. They knew Arantir, they knew he would react, turn quiet and then plan what to do.

Slowly he spoke; “What is the nightmare that unfolds in the dim gray of day?” Arantir glared around the room but he focused on an unseen enemy. His pacing started again but the cursing and bellowing did not.  Finally he stopped and sat down at the head of a large meeting table in the center of the hall. “Re-tell the full account of this treachery Ornella. The rest of you may leave us.”

The Vampire Princess came and sat down next to her Lord.

“Here is what we know. Giovanni has returned, we don’t know how. He’s leading an army and we had several captains that recognized him as he led the assault on the outpost at Blackroot.  As you know my Lord, we did not have many troops stationed in that area, so the fort was overrun easily. What has become of it we do not know. His sister Lucretia and another Necromancer that is believed, almost certainly, to be Deidrie, attacked our defense to the east at Fog Mere. It too was overrun. I regret reporting that many vampires were a part of Giovanni’s’ forces.” Our troops that managed to escape and make it back here, say that the wooden structure was last seen completely afire. Not many returned from there. We were more fortunate in the west where a large part of that small garrison had left not long before the attack, on a show-of-force march.

“Then it seems luck has not entirely abandoned me. What of our scouts and their mission? Have we had any success yet? “

Ornella hesitated but continued. "Strange winds blow my Lord. Of Vladimir we’ve had no word. Nothing to go on at all, He has disappeared and at the moment without a trace. However a discovery has been made and it is one that's nearly beyond belief, if not for the other news."

Arantir, pushed his chair back and leaned in closer to his most trusted follower. "One of our scouting bands came upon a lone wraith traveling across the land miles north of our border. When spotted, he attempted to flee but they caught up to him. He furiously resisted and was accidentally killed. He carried a message to Markal from Giovanni that announced these attacks.

Arantir stood up from the table and did not look at the intercepted parchment.

“Summon our commanders to me at once. No delays. No reasons given.” With those instructions,  Ornella left the chamber in a hurry.

Arantir walked over to large windows and peered out into the growing gloom. It moved like narrow clawing fingers, reaching across the valley floor. He quietly called on Her.
“You must help me. You must be my banner...my avatar of death. It appears resurrection has swept the land and is allied against me.”

Mark do you remember this part "Ornella became a necromancer and an ally to Arantir. He sacrificed her life to open a gate to a demon cultist town in the Empire."? I guess no.
Anyway, it's too good to be changed if you ask me. Just add in the next part how was she brought back from her final death (a gift from Asha, Arantir managed to do it or something else).

I forgot... Like I said in my previous post, you can cooperate with someone else that "has" a character that you would like to use. Mark, if you intend to include Markal, it will be nice to work with gnomes. (that goes for you, too, gnomes, if you want to include Giovanni, work with Mark). Of course, don't do so, if you don't want to. I think that stories will became more complicated this way.

No. Remember that was a hesistation for me; "not knowing the whole story-line". Anyway, since everyone is being resurrected, Ornella should not be left out I'll write something in later when they are not dealing with sudden-war and are being more conversational<L>

Well, I thought I should at least make some mention of the "alliance between them", since you had posted the following. I did see that Gnomes had Markal too and was not sure what you wanted.

" but he also made an alliance with one of the most powerful necromancers ever – Markal."

If it's Ok with you I would rather just be writing about the Necro-Saga and letting your narration lead me when I need to make mention of Markal for some purpose.

Monday narrative (for me it’s not Monday yet but still). I don’t have notes except – again look at the maps – the one of Ashan and the one of the Empire. Have fun this week! (although that you all “are” in pretty bad situations)
I’ll do my own Fic about Zehir later.

Arantir
Both of Giovanni’s attacks had succeeded. His troops captured a dozen towns. Two of them are major and essential to Heresh. Word is that almost all of the necromancers lost fate in Arantir. When they heard of Markal’s return and that Giovanni is his ally quickly changed sides. Arantir’s main reigns are a week away from Giovanni’s forces. The only good news is that those forces are weakened but when this week ends reinforcements will come and chances for Arantir would be almost none.

Gotai
Another tribe was defeated. It looks like the Unicorn Empire has enough problems of its own to deal with the knights that favor the Red church. Gotai still waits for the return of Hagash and her centaurs. There are still no words from Kujin. The Goblin Lord united with Gorshak who wanted to be Khan desperately. Many orcs and not only Steel men stand against Gotai. He has to fight with both threats.

Findan
A spy told Markal about Findan’s plan and about the unrest that is among his troops. Looks like one of the elves is a traitor. Markal pushed his armies of death further in the elven lands. Another big town was made necromancer’s territory. Markal was only beginning his plan – he wanted after Irollan to strike the Empire and the Seven Cities, too. No one can stop him… alone.

Duncan
Laszlo was gathering a force – too small to attack main towns but big enough to capture some villages and dwellings of creatures. He is searching for allies against the Unicorn Empire.
Events – Valeria, ruler of the Wolf Duchy, tried to stop Alaric and went missing somewhere in the Raven Duchy. Many dwellings fell in Alaric’s hands in both the Wolf and Raven Duchy.

"Fall back, men! Fall back!" Ossir cried out to his hunters, raining arrows on the undead hoards to give them time to retreat. The necromancer and her litches pushed their armies ever closer to the rapidly retreating elven lines.

Suddenly, a blast of holy light energy turned the closest of the enemies into dust. "I'm almost out of magic, run you fool!" Wyngaal called to his friend as he retreated.

The ambush had come unexpectedly, a necromancer had ridden in front of the elven scouts that morning. She had raided her hand, and hundreds of decayed and bony hands had risen with it, surrounding the scouts. They would have been finished if Eruina hadn't given Wyngaal a tomb of light magic in payment for... Something. Neither of them would tell. All anyone knew was that Wyngaal made sure Findan had an excuse to punch him in the eye every day.

The retreat had been going on for ten minutes, and so far casualties had been minor, but only because of Wyngaal's large pools of mana. And those pools had finally run dry.

The archers stopped firing and ran through the undead in their way, cutting down the few undead that were left standing. The elves knew that they still wouldn't be able to outrun the tireless and fearless undead. Ossir shot one final imbued arrow and followed his men as it exploded.

"Where the hell are our reinforcements!" He yelled to Wyngaal.

--------------------------------------------

Vampires and wights had warped themselves in between the swordsmen and the casters, slowly expanding outwards to engulf the elven forces. Their numbers had been small, but the surprise of the attack had allowed them to kill quite a few elves before their adversaries had begun to fight back.

Findan ran over to the next closest Wraith, cutting down the two vampires standing as guards for it while they were distracted. The Wraith turned towards him. Instantly, it started to swing it's scythe at the not-yet-king of the elves. The scythe blurred as its blade flew towards Findan's throat.

The Wraith hit nothing but air.

Findan's blades cut through the fabric and bone that made up the aspect of death, tearing apart that core that held the monster together. The wraith's right hand glowed an even brighter blue as it drew it back. Findan was paralyzed by an overwhelming sense of fear as it drew back its hand to rip his soul from his body.

The Wraith was blown apart by a blast of light energy. Wyngaal had arrived, and used his last Word of Light at that instant. Though many of the remaining vampires and all but one Wraith had been destroyed, it had come at a steep cost. Wyngaal fell to his knees, drained of every last drop of mana he had, and the undead still kept coming.

"Where are those damn dark elves?" He panted.

--------------------------------------------

The Necromancer laughed as the elves finally broke and ran. "If this is their army," She said, "Then my master won't even have to lift a finger to crush them. I'll kill this fly."

One of her litches laughed. "Mistresss, do not doubt the dark elvess. Their heroess have not even shown themselvess."

She vaporized it in the spot. "I'd like to see a little warlock stand up to that."

Lethos raised his eyebrows, That was nothing to the sheer power of destruction, fool he thought to himself. Lethos shifted slightly in his shadows, I will show you power.

--------------------------------------------

Eruina walked boldly out of the commander's tent. The twenty vampires there turned to her as one, but before any of them could twitch, the Matriarch waved her hand over all of them, and tendrils of darkness held the vampires in place.

One of the vampires was a prince. She looked him directly in the eye, and though he used all of his formidable magic, she shrugged off his feeble attempts to use his magic on her. "I want you to deliver a message to Markal, amusing one." Eruina told him. "I'm coming for him."

With another wave of her hand, the vampire prince vanished. Eruina threw her hand forwards, and the others were instantly incinerated by the wall of fire that rose up to consume them. Humming to herself, Eruina strode through the battlefield, incinerating everything that got in her way.

-------------------------------------------

The dark elven scouts continued to pour bolts on top of the undead that assailed their allies. Almost as one, they ran out of ammunition, and pulled out their knives to continue the fight. One of them, on the other hand, didn't draw anything but a rod with a dragon flapping its wings on top of it.

The dark elf threw back his hood. While this powerful warlock's mask might have changed shape, his glowing blue eyes, scars and powerful magic have not.

Sinitar raised the staff of Sarr-Issus high above his head, and a massive orb of darkness materialized in the center of the undead ranks. It crashed into itself, eradicating every scrap of bone that it touched.

Though this did not actually destroy the Necromancer's entire army, it broke it down to scraps of the fighting force that it had once been. Sinitar then raised his hand, and from the shy meteors fell to the earth, crushing even more of the ragged undead army. The elves mopped up the remainder.

Sinitar smiled smugly for a second before he went to the commander's tent. Might as well reveal that he was there now, right?

--------------------------------------

"Impossible! How could just two of those weaklings do..." The Necromancer raged.

"Mistresss, we did warn-" She was about to eradicate that litch as well, when all of them suddenly turned into ice. Lethos snapped his finger and they all shattered.

"You!" The necromancer cried out in furry as she threw all of her magic at him. Lethos sighed as the magic turned up the ground around where he had been standing, kicking up enough dust to blind her.

"Too slow." Lethos said behind her. His blades tore her slightly rotted body apart (She was a necromancer after all) as his magic burned away at all of her protections. In a last fit of desperation, the necromancer threw her soul out of her body and into the wild.

Lethos literally grabbed it. "Tch. Slippery little snake, aren't you?" He asked before he shattered her soul into a thousand tinny shards. Instantly, the last of the undead fell to pieces... Never to rise again.

"Well, that ends that I suppose." Lethos muttered to himself. "Wonder how the loyal dog is doing."

------------------------------------

"What took you so damn long!" Ossir yelled at the dark elf heroes. "If you had been out there helping us, none of our brave soldiers would have died pointless deaths!"

"We were waiting until the opportune-" Eruina began.

"No! No excuses! And, just for the record, Who The Hell Are You?!" He pointed at Sinitar.

The Warlock was silent for a time, as if struggling on whether to smite the fool or to suffer him. "I am called Sinitar."

The tent was silent for a second. Everyone had heard rumors about him, but rumors and seeing are two completely different things. This was the man who had single handedly eradicated any elven attempts to make a sub-terrainian base or tunnel.

"You murdering B@STARD!" Ossir yelled, launching himself at the warlock. Wyngaal tripped Ossir while Findan punched him in the still healing nose. A crack told them that it had broken again.

"Control yourself or go home, Ossir!" Findan commanded. He turned back to the dark elves. Wyngaal held Ossir back. "Now we really do have a representative from each sect of your society, don't we?"

The assassin, witch and warlock looked at each other and nodded. "So it would seem." Lethos agreed.

"Alright. Well, good I guess." Findan said. "Next time, though, make sure you don't hold back, even at the beginning. We do not have the troops to spare for any of your games."

Eruina held up the book of Light Magic, "Actually-"

"And who will use that and weaken their magics for the next battle, Eruina?" Findan asked, infuriated. "Will it be you? Me? Wyngaal? Who will give that much power and cripple themselves like that before the next and far worse battle begins?"

Eruina looked down, momentarily speechless.

"I'll do it this time." Findan told her. "But please, try to keep our casualties down."

The dark elves nodded.

"Elf king." Lethos piped up. "You'll be happy to note that the necromancer leading this army is no more. Not even a scrap of her soul remains."

Findan looked at the assassin, stunned and amazed. "You destroyed the necromancer's SOUL?"

"Yes, nasty business, that. Still," Lethos took a noble pose, "I have done my duty to lessen further casualties."

"...Right." Findan said. Glad that they would never see that necromancer again, but also disturbed by how far his ally had gone.

Eruina smacked Lethos upside the head. "Stop standing there like an idiot. Oh, and Wyngaal," The drained ranger looked at her. "I don't care about that black eye anymore."

Lethos rubbed the back of his head and glared at her, and Wyngaal desperately grabbed Findan's cloak, begging Findan to stab him.

"Sheesh." Findan told the man. "Whatever it is can't be that bad."

"Yes, come on you coward." Eruina told him. "You did lose the bet and make a lady a promise, you know. There is no escape."

Wide eyed, Wyngaal was dragged out of sight by Eruina.

"Right..." Findan muttered. "So, anyways, we will camp here tonight and care for our wounded. I'll resurrect as many of our soldiers as I can before we move out tomorrow. Stay on guard, everyone."

The champions, now one greater, all left the tent to do what was necessary. Ossir's rage grew.

Well, too bad those two characters related to mine haven't been taken. Otherwise it would be interesting to build up a coherent story. I could have assumed one of those two (doing three would be too much), but I'd like to see first if anyone would do the same. We just need to caution ourselves not to lose focus when doing two.

For the time being, I could let some ends loose by writing vague circumstances even if mentioned names. But eventually there should be clash of characters. I hope I can delay it as long as I could.

The current narrative is as challenging as the letter, evinin! Look forward to continuing my part
____________
But now I have come to believe that the whole world is an enigma, a harmless enigma that is made terrible by our own mad attempt to interpret it.

Gnomes, you really shouldn't... Poor necromancers don't deserve things like that! (that means - you are sooo going down).
Anyway, great job as always. Just keep in mind - there are problems in the dungeons, too (or will be).

And... Duncan, don't worry, you'll have enough other things to think about than the other characters.

I just keep forgetting stuff... Who wants to write the Monday narrative for me? I can't play both Zehir and his enemies...

I'm editing this post for like fifth time now... Anyway, I'm almost done with the Zehir Fic but I have a nice idea. I'm working on a new fictional character. This character should be really powerful (and mysterious) but also an insane freak. The character would like helping others much so all of you can use him (without cooperating with me or each other). I'm going to make the character enough powerful and enough moody to help (or be against) all of you. I'll be ready with the character probably next week. Any interest? (it's like a link between all of the story lines but still letting them be separate)

Ugg... Dead people. Findan does have problems with his allies attitudes and their actions, but he is just trying to keep peace between the factions.

Oh, and who said that the Dungeon heroes are all nice and friendly with each other? (Warlock leader and dark Matriach... They sort of step on each other's toes in their scociety normaly... Oh, spoiler alert, by the way.) Every character also has a major flaw, Lethos has no respect for authority (except to Eruina), Ossir is just a hot head, Wyngaal trusts in luck too much, Eruina is... Eruina... (No explinations nescissary), Sinitar is disliked and distrusted by both sides, and Findan is just under a lot of fricken preassure. (This will show even more soon enough.)

There's an easy way to lower the pressure in Findan's heart - kill him and rise him! Anyway...

I still need someone to write my Monday narrative and I'm still waiting for a response about the new character. Just saying.

“I hate jokes like that!”

Zehir tore the letter to pieces and then burn them with magic. A scent of death filled the room. The wizard felt a sudden chill and then understood that this was no joke.

“A letter from the Void – that’s what is said? Impossible!  No one returns from the Void - only necromancers do! And I will not do that to my…”

“I’m sorry to interrupt you, Zehir, but the meeting of the Circle will start within minutes. You don’t want those wizards to wait for you, do you?”

Narxes, Zehir’s mentor, put him out of the sudden anger that has come into him. The First of the Circle asked for a delay because of very important business and went quickly out of the room. He didn’t have time for more questions. When he reached his room, located on the very top of the tallest tower in town, he locked himself in. Sweat was coming down his forehead.

He sat on his bed, closed his eyes and tried to rethink things. So there was a way to bring his father back. He wouldn’t like anything more than having Cyrus as First of the Circle. Than Zehir would leave the Silver Cities as a hero and start traveling. Then he wouldn’t have responsibilities, boring meetings and other annoying stuff like that. He would be free to do everything even… No, that wasn’t right.
His father was death and should stay death. The last time Zehir tried to find him he faced Markal and almost lost his life because of an obvious trap. Now, Zehir was smarter than that! He wasn’t going to fall in the same trap twice. And also if he wanted to revive his father, he had to sacrifice his magic powers and spells and knowledge… Something that was impossible to happen.

A knock on the door got him by surprise. No one has ever dared to disturb him when he was in his room. He waved his hand and the unlocked the door with a very bad feeling.  Outside were standing Maahir and the Djinn Nur. They both looked very bad.

“What has happened to you two? Speak up!”

“We can’t restore mana, sir, something went wrong!” The Djinn said with a low voice.

“The thing is, Zehir – we are mystics, we always have mana. It looks like something is taking it away. ”

“We think that it started when the news about the elves…” She didn’t finish.

“What news?” Zehir regretted for ones that he had missed the meeting of the Circle.

“Irollan is being heavily attacked by necromancers. They even convert elven towns into death ones. Elves requested help, so we sent messengers to Heresh. If their Lord doesn’t answer, we should attack him. Also there is unrest in the Empire, so it looks like something big is happening. What should we do now, Zehir? We need someone to help us, someone…”

“Someone like my father I guess.” The mystics looked confused. “It’s fine, just fine! Stupid letters! I’ll even give up my magic! I’ve gotten insane! Maahir, take my place, I’m going to consult with the Phoenix lady, I’ll be back within a week.”

He teleported instantly before the mystics could even ask him who the Phoenix lady is.

evinin already wrote this week's narrative "Sunday". (see her post above)

I think she is looking for someone to take another character role of special purpose.

I suppose we could combine both;. "Hers and Gnomes" for this week or save his for next week.

What do you want us to do evinin?

No, guys... I'll write your narratives (gnomes, please delete your post so people don't get confused). I want someone to write the narrative ONLY for me (Zehir character) because I can't write it and play it.

And about events - only the first narrative for each character has events, then they became short stories (I know what I'm doing). Sorry for the whole misunderstanding.

Sorry, so here would be just Zehir's (I'll do it this week since I already did make one...)

Zehir
Markal's return has not gone unnoticed in the Silver Cities, and many wizards cry out that it is a sign of doom. Some have even gone so far as to give themselves willingly to the Death Lord's army, one even became a necromancer, and he had sent her to take care of the foolish elves that had come to "Slay" him. One of the last pieces in Markal's war has been set into motion, and everything was going according to plan. Excellent.

(Again, sorry for the confusion.)

Edit: Good post BTW Evinin, it almost keeps to Zehir's campaign personality.

I'm happy that you think so, that's my goal. Anyway, thank you for the narrative, I'll use it for next week.
I can't wait to see what happens next with the other characters.

Wow!

It seems like this topic is really getting hot, and we do have really nice pieces of artwork.
I hope I will be able to post mine soon.

Have a nice day,
PF

Edit: Here I am.

It seemed we got ourselves into an awful lot of mess. That would mean lots of killing. And that I should be happy about it. But in fact, I was tired and very grumpy. For a few days, nobody was allowed to come to my tent. I gave instructions when I felt that I needed to.

Maybe not the best characteristics for a reigning Khan, but all my sources, everything that could mean help or hope, seemed to run dry. No Kujin, no Haggash, no experienced commanders stayed on my side. Some of them deserted and joined Gorshak in his campaign to become Khan. And this was how, suddenly, I became the prey, instead of being the hunter. We all, who have besieged Talonguard and purged it from the demon taint, we all became alienated, separated from each other. Everyone had to clean up his own mess. Including me. And only me, without the help of the wisest shaman I knew.

I was sitting in my tent, and thinking about how we would be able to get out of this trap that slowly manifested before my eyes. Gorshak and his troops were moving in from the East. My scouts told me that our forces were around equal as many clans haven’t decided yet about choosing sides. I could understand them. All they wanted was to protect their people.

But, if I decided to fight Gorshak that could also come out as a close fight, there were Steel troops stationed to the west of our camp. I could not risk having a crippled army and enemy troops around.

Suddenly, an idea came to my mind. Gorshak needed me. Whether dead or alive – most likely dead – he definitely needed me. Until I was alive, there was faith in the hearts of everyone fighting against him. Only my death would be able to give him the opportunity he sought. Or my deepest humiliation. But I didn’t expect him to challenge me in a fair duel, rather chase me to death. Time was definitely on his side. But the Red Knights did not need me. They wanted Orcs dead, but not Gotai dead – though my head would have been a great trophy for them, too. I didn’t know how much Gorshak will be interested in fighting Steel men, but that was not an important question if I was smart and lucky enough. I went out and sounded the horns, calling my army to pack and move. We had to run hard, and don’t die fast.

We travelled northwards for many days and we really felt like stags being chased by wolves. Every day, and every night I was told that my enemies didn’t lose my trail but they didn’t seem to be aware of each other.

Suddenly, one night someone ran into our camp. It was a small female goblin, riding a wolf and both seemed very exhausted. And there was something even stranger. She was wearing a colorful mask and carrying only a stick and a drum. I put two and two together – a goblin witch. Some tribes prefer witches to witch-doctors, I don’t know why. Kujin always hated them, she said they are just disturbing her visions. But they usually stayed with their tribe. And this one was alone, without food and water.

We gave her some food and water from ours and in a few hours, she looked better. Yet she didn’t want to speak more than a few words with anyone but me so I visited her.

“What you want say?” I asked her, gruffly.

Her voice was deep and dry like a desert and I couldn’t determine if it was her usual voice or it was just because she nearly dried out.

“Greetings, Gotai Khan. I say what you want hear.” she moaned. “I say why is Goblin Lord against Khan?”

“Who are you?” I interrupted her.

“My name Nitaar. I was witch and advisor for Kilghan.”

“Was?” I asked curiously. I didn’t want a spy in my tent.

“I was chased away. I had an… unsolved dispute.”

“What kind of?” Still, while being a goblin, she also spoke like a twisted shaman.

“About you, Khan. I tell you, while you fighting in Steel men lands, generals murdering goblins.”

“Impossible.” I shouted. “I trust my soldiers.”

“You should not. Damn Shak’Karukat. Fed lizards with us. I protect you. Kilghan did not want to tolerate. Many months pass and nothing changed. Kilghan say, you treat us like enemies and use us as food, Kilghan do same.”

“That’s why he sent loyal troops into Steel men hands.” My mind started burning like fire.

“And why he go with Gorshak. He told us, Goblin have freedom and forts.” She spat out.

“Seem like you not like Gorshak.” I told her.

“No, indeed. There are not many orcs treating goblins right. Kilghan wants this. And I not think Gorshak is other.”

“May I change him if I kill Shak’Karukat?” I asked. One more enemy, but at least, he was seemingly weaker than the others.

“Don’t know. Dreams not tell. I am not Shaman.”

“And where went Shak’Karukat?” I asked. If I had a small chance to get rid of two enemies at the same time, I had to try it.

“He flee to north.” Nitaar answered. “That’s all Nitaar know.”

Great job, Peter, looks like you can handle even this absurd situation. You're a good Khan.
