I'm not 100% but just deduce it logically, that Freyda is Queen by default the time Isabel handed the throne, whereas Duncan remains Lord (of Stag Duchy). Duncan would automatically be King when he gets married with Freyda, but until then no one/event raised his status just yet. Hence I kept "Lord" and "Sire" for Duncan's salutation in my fic.

But, since he is to be their future king, everyone still gives him allot of respect and are still fiercely loyal to Duncan. His status as a war veteran also helps with this just a little bit...

I know. I was not discussing respect/loyalty, but salutation, which I suppose one should be very careful in using.

Anyway, only your fic so far gnomes? Haven't seen evinin either lately. I'll do my part near the end of the week.

For a moment, I thought that Father Sky is peeling the pressure on me. For many battles, my obstacles were clear. Collect the skulls. Kick the hell out of the Red Knights’ butts. Bury Kunyak. Gather troops. And now, I had to face that the world was far more complicated than I had imagined. My generals have turned against me, Kujin has simply vanished, and Alaric was trying to force Orcs to fight against demons that have never walked upon this land, only existed in his imagination. We were fighting against a Hydra, a monster that grows two verminous heads if one is dead. As that feathered being appeared I almost hit it with my axe, the only reason I didn’t was its pure magnificence and the fact that I was completely stunned about it.

I spat on the ground of my tent. Is it possible that I was getting sentimental just because I saw a snowing angel that did not intend to kill me?

Still, our situation was not better than a week ago. As I could have expected – in fact, what on Earth could anyone expect from a raving lunatic who is even human – Alaric did not follow us directly, he was sitting in the second row and sent some of his followers after my troops. Some troops told me that we were chased by a Knight named Fritigern who had been a great traveler and knew many secret paths not only in the Empire but in Ranaar, so he was able to avoid most of the orc attacks.

I was near crying. If I hadn’t been an orc, I probably would have done that. I knew that we didn’t have much time to hesitate. Not because of Fritigern. Because of us. The more days we spent without a major battle, the more desperation I saw in my soldiers’ eyes. And if they couldn’t believe that they can win, we were doomed. Even if we were not outnumbered – but this had a very slight chance.

Not to speak about the blood traitor Shak’Karukat. Nitaar was right; she didn’t know more about him. Just like all other orcs we have met on the way. If it had been such a difficult task to look up into the sky and see if a pack of damned huge lizards was above you. If he hid, he was able to do so very well. And there was one thing I wasn’t able to understand. Why did Shak’Karukat do such things to orcs and goblins? Naturally, I asked Nitaar.

“Shadows say, Shak experiment.”

I raised my eyebrows. Orcs were not the kind of race who experimented. Usually they were the ones used by other for experiments. Why was Shak’Karukat acting like Father Sky?

After a few days of wandering, the landscape changed and I was almost amazed how enormous Ranaar was. I have never heard about a land where trees got smaller but their leaves darker, protruding from everywhere like small needles. The land was also drier and we saw many mountains as well. Some warriors have also told me that they hear strange noises during the night but don’t see any being. I clearly saw that they were afraid of getting trapped by Fritigern’s troops.

That night, the only thing I heard was Nitaar singing at the guards’ bonfire. For a moment, I stopped and listened at the drums she played, and her deep, cracky voice.

God of all rivers, be gracious tonight,
Your water ease my thirst in the nights,
God of wilderness, be gracious tonight,
Fresh venison beguiles my hunger.

God of all fires, be gracious tonight,
Please embrace the flames and the light.
God of all winds, be gracious tonight,
Keep our tribe away from all the threats.

I wondered what kind of rite she was performing. It didn't sound like a war cry. Ranaar was definitely a bigger place that I was able to imagine.

Suddenly, she stopped and I immediately understood why. I heard some hooves around us. Hopefully not Fritigern’s cavaliers. As I ran out and tried to wake up as many warriors as possible, a hellish voice yelled at me from quite afar.

“Stop, intruders!”

I laughed at it and ran towards another hut. But only for a few moments, as I immediately got an arrow in my arm. I fell on the ground.

“I told you stop!” We heard the shout again, this time from a bit closer. “We not want hurt you. We Tribes of Night.”

Tribes of Night? I have never heard about such a tribe. As I stood up, I saw their chieftain walking nearer and nearer to the bonfire. He was carrying a huge axe – as many chieftains – in one hand and some talisman in the other. And he was wearing strange, purple war paint on his face and all over his body.

“I Takawi.” He said. “Who your leader?”

I stepped towards him, but I kept my axe beside me.

“Gotai Khan, son of Quroq.” I shouted back.

“Hmm, Khan.” he murmured. “You Orc. That good. But Orc fools roam our lands. We not want them here. We not want you here. Tribe of Night live in peace. Tsita and Tachu protect tribe.”

“I say, peace is over.” I told him. “Orcs in danger. Our tribes defeated.” As I was telling him our situation, the words of the shiny letter came to my mind again and again. To not be Khan or to die. Takawi seemed a good warrior, but who were this Tsita and Tachu? His leaders maybe? I should meet them if I have the chance. “Steel men chasing orcs.” I continued. “Want them to fight their fights.”

“Orcs never fight any fight than their own.” He shouted out something that I didn’t understand, like howling directly at the sky. Then he turned back to me.

“We not like intruders. But we not like Steel men less. Orc should help Orc, if they not kill Orcs.”

As he said the last half sentence, I felt something in his voice. He was maybe referring to something. But anyway, we had more urgent problems.

“I not want to intrude Tribe of Night.” I replied. “I help protect borders. But forces weakening…”

“I have forces.” he interrupted and whistled.

Many centaurs and maulers with huge, night-blue swords appeared from the bushes. All of them had the same purple colors.

“Attack Steel men in night. Get rid of them.”

And get rid of us for a while, I added in my mind.

“We strong in night.” Takawi continued. “Scare them to death.”

“Will you find Steel camp?” I asked him.

He whistled again and many of his centaurs ran away, but almost as silently as a panther in the night. I simply wondered why they wanted us to notice them. We could have been ambushed pretty easily. And I was also a bit scared because I did not know anything about these people except that they were Orcs.

In a not more than an hour, a group of centaurs returned and reported that Fritigern was not far away from us. As I could have expected.

“We will ambush them then.” I said calmly as my hand was itching on my axe.

“Yes.” Takawi said. “Night Warriors will attack Steel shamans and I will call upon the spirits to help them.”

It was quite weird to hear a chieftain who doesn’t want to be in the first row when the attack was launched. Our forces slowly moved closer to the Knights’ camp. Their forces were larger than ours, designed for quick movement with griffins, lots of red priests and mounted troops.

But the Tribes of the Night left a brief and deadly explanation for their name. In a few moments, with the might of surprise on their side, and with the help of my warriors, they were as swift as they were dark elf assassins. Some priests tried to counter-attack but Takawi’s warriors somehow managed to use their blood to heal their own wounds. Seeing that they were overwhelmed, most of the knights put down their weapons.

Until Fritigern showed up, who immediately ordered his personal guardians – Crossbowmen and Vindicators, what else – to charge. In a few moments, we felt that we were in a storm of iron arrows. Charge against charging, I ordered. The knights tried to move out of our way, with small success. Many warriors died in the chaos but at least we were able to capture Fritigern.

Not for much surprise, he didn’t speak just spat any warrior who tried to get near him. But at least, they had the much needed courage and confidence now. I was glad when I had the pleasure to do so with him, after killing many Orcs and the small witch, Nitaar, too.

In my thoughts, I thanked Father Sky and my ally, Takawi for their help. Just like my warriors, I also regained some self-confidence.

Of course, after the battle, Takawi came right to me and told me that he was not going to follow me after I leave the borders of the Night tribes. I appreciated him quite much, and not because of his valor in combat (he did not kill a Knight himself) but for his arcanely inspiring personality that made his warriors stronger. I informed him that he might also meet Gorshak’s and Kilghan’s allied forces. Of course, he was not happy to hear that.

Anyway, we all had things to do. He had to do what he had always – protect his tribe’s borders. And I had a different task. So, I roasted Fritigern’s now useless skull and put it on a pole, on my bison’s back. I hoped that this would scare the hell out of all my enemies. And I really needed their advantage.

P.S.: If someone hasn't noticed, credit goes for Fauch for the troops of the Night Tribes.

Extremely interesting and impressive, gnomes! I almost felt sorry for Ossir (which is a big thing because I almost never care about the characters that die and suffer). I didn't quite get the Michael part. And just a note - Markal is not Death God but Death Lord. It doesn't matter much.

Ossir was the traitor that you had mentioned in the first "What happened this week" post. So you are feeling sorry for the death and rebirth of one of the villains.

On the Micheal subject, H6 happens a few hundred years before H5, so, since none of us owns H6 and has completed the campaign, there are only three real possibilities for what happens to this antagonist:
1- Dies (Not very likely)
2- Becomes Agreal (Really bloody likely, and it would explain allot)
3- Banished to the void (I'll be playing off of this)

Your third point now... Yes I know that Markal is only Death Lord... For now. Why else would he be amassing so much power? Asha could be in trouble...

Mutiny

Duncan’s army was greeted at the gate by Klaus and several other officers. By the time Duncan arrived, he had managed to assemble a large army—supposedly enough for reinforcement—by recruiting creatures along the way. However, the news that Klaus brought was more than a distress signal.

“Greetings, my Lord. We have been waiting for you. Thankfully you arrive just when we need you most. Further delay of one-two days could mean disaster for us and I might have been forced to withdraw and abandon this castle.”

“How is that so?” Duncan was extremely surprised receiving such negative development within a very short time.

“Laszlo has not just been rampaging the villages. He was spreading rumor that the Empire is leaderless, and that led people starting rebellion,” Klaus explained.

He knew about Freyda? Duncan wondered. Well, then again after several days missing, it wouldn’t be hard to imagine escalation of the affair. The Queen is missing, a royal marriage was cancelled, what else needed to raise the bar of this calamity?

Seeing Duncan in silent, Klaus was expecting a reply so he urged, “What should we do now, Sire?”

Seconds passed.

Klaus continued, “We can now show them our strength with this reinforcement you bring, but warring against our own people is another matter.”

Dougal, being a lower-ranking officer, had not interrupted until he saw that one-way conversation. Pacing his steed to put him in line with his two leaders, he said, “It is better to organize a meeting with all officers to discuss this…”

Klaus was still waiting for Duncan’s word but getting none until they arrived in stable. While dismounting, Duncan repeated Dougal’s proposal, “Summon everyone to the Hall.”

**************************************************

Attended by five royal officers, the hall looked spacious for the meeting. Yet the problem was not just with the physical emptiness of the room, but also in Duncan’s mind. He was in the middle of nowhere in this urgent situation, he mainly let the officers spit what’s on their mind. He intended to respond cordially, but the thought about Freyda kept hanging on his head, and the more the officers threw their words, the worse the situation became.

Aside from Duncan, Klaus, and Dougal, joining the meeting were Stefan—an infantry commander, and Priest Tomas. Both Klaus and Tomas were the highest-ranking officers, in the knight and cleric departments, respectively. After an exchange of salutation, Klaus opened the meeting by explaining the current affairs, which everyone was practically already knowledgeable. It was needed for formality sake, nonetheless.

Priest Tomas, who seemed in haste, could not stand the absence of direction thus broke silence, “My Lord, we cannot sustain the perception of our people that the Empire is leaderless. The enemy has been successfully exploiting this to their own advantage.”

“But we are,” Stefan—renowned for his cynical and blunt words—spoke up.

“We have Lord Duncan, he has been leading us all these years, throughout all battles of Ashan, and would soon be our King next to Queen Freyda,” Dougal felt he needed to defend his master.

“Not just yet,” Stefan remained seated while he threw his heavy voice once more.

“Who are you to utter such impolite nonsense?” Dougal raised his tone.

“And who are you to speak to me like that, soldier!” This time Stefan jumped off his chair, kicked it accidentally that it fell off. He also grabbed his sword and was prepared to draw it within second.

Dougal was terribly offended being called soldier, but before he could do anything, Duncan finally said something.

“Sir Stefan is right. I am no King.”

“But my Lord…” Dougal objected, only to be silenced by Duncan’s waving hand.

“And if we are leaderless, let it be someone taking in charge of the situation and lead our troops to crush these rebels,” Priest Tomas continued.

“Then let it be Lord Duncan leading us through,” Dougal said.

Silence crept in that room yet again. Damn! If I can’t get rid of Freyda’s whereabout, I cannot function as a leader! Duncan thought.

“General Klaus, what say you?” Priest Tomas steered away to another figure in that room.

In hesitation Klaus replied, “Part of the rebels are our own people, they committed no crime but failed the seduction of the enemy.”

“That is a crime severe enough for decent punishment, General. They will eventually commit to civil war and killing the other innocent people,” said Priest Tomas before he turn to Duncan, “Is my Lord capable of leading us against all this?”

Before Dougal objected for the third time, a scout rushed into the hall with more depressing news.

“It’s been confirmed that the enemy has taken both Wolf and Raven Duchies. All towns there fell to Laszlo’s army.”

“And Valeria?” Klaus asked the scout.

“She’s still missing, General.”

“More duchies will follow suit, I reckon,” Stefan muttered.

After dismissing the scout, Priest Tomas continued leading the meeting, “I propose General Klaus and myself are authorized to lead the Empire in order to suppress this rebellion, while Lord Duncan remains in his rest.”

“This is mutiny!” Dougal yelled, almost screaming. He could not believe what he had been hearing. He turn to Klaus, “General, you cannot really acknowledge this idea! This is insane! Not after what Lord Duncan has done to the Empire!”

Klaus could not say a word. He knew Dougal’s feeling, he was also loyal to Duncan, but one would be definitely too blind for not seeing what was going on.

Poor Dougal, Duncan couldn’t help himself thinking. He was hoping he did not disappoint him more than he could afford. It was just unfair.

“We are not turning against him, Commander,” Priest Tomas attempted explaining. “It is not like we’re arresting him for something he didn’t do. We just need to act in this circumstance.”

At that moment another scout broke in. With even more depressing news!

“King Wulfstan and his dwarven army could not join us in this battle.”

Bang! All faces turn red in disbelief and anxiety. All heads seemed about to explode.

I am doomed. I must disappear. Those two were the only lines Duncan could think.

**************************************************

Rutger walked off the stable whistling. Another mission accomplished, he thought. Another service to Lord Duncan and the Griffin Empire. Err… Unicorn Empire. Ah, whatever. He was wondering when he would be appointed as general and given more role in the battlefields. Then again, he was known best doing what he had been doing as a royal messenger. As long as it pays well and he can earn much respect, he would assume any role assigned to him. While simmering in that thought he was suddenly face to face with Ellaine.

“Rutger, what took you so long?”

“What you mean?”

“Well, it’s not customary of you sending a scout to bring in the news. Though I can imagine maybe you wanted it be received sooner.”

“Scout? What scout?” Ain’t no scout can beat me, Rutger thought.

Now they both looking at each other, utterly bewildered.

“There was someone coming ahead of you saying Grimheim has urgent matters to attend and cannot help this time…”

“And you believe that?” Rutger almost lost his words. “Who is he? Where is he?”

“Ergh… I did not meet him myself. But one of my followers did and brought the news to me. Then I dispatched the scout Lord Duncan sent back earlier to relay the news to him.”

“Ellaine! I bring a letter from King Wulfstan himself, sealed, saying they will help. Your stupid peasant… At least you, Ellaine, should know such matter doesn’t go mouth-to-mouth. Don’t you know anything about diplomacy?” Now Rutger was really mad.

For Heaven’s sake. They both then shared same imagination of the next unfolding scenario. If the defense could not hold, and realizing the dwarven reinforcement was not coming, Lord Duncan and the army could abandon castle, and one important stronghold in the south will be lost!

Rutger was still able to think through, though. He was nearly flying from Grimheim to here. And if there was someone who could beat him doing so, he could only think of one name. Demon Lord Grok.

I have started going through the entries, pretty good. Found some inconsistencies but don't let that get in the way of creative freedom.

Markal being resurrected after being disintegrated seems rather convenient, even assuming Zehir had a chance to fail. heck his skull ended up an artifact though I suppose his spirit could have been bound somewhere.. Also he would have little reason to just attack Irollan and the Unicorn empire, he was a manipulator not a conqueror. Would have at least waited to tap into a source of power or gather forces, try to restore the necromancers to power first or so I'd think. I remembered Gotai a bit more simple But then the campaign never did show his inner thoughts, just showed that he's quick-tempered, honourable, caring for his people and short-sighted. Arantir was always calm and collected, (almost)emotionless. Ornella alive.. Kinda ruins the dramatic ending of the campaign. Ossir as a master hunter's portrayal although used for comic relief does not see to match his style. Maahir was alive some centuries before H5.

Btw Sinitar's entry reminded me of I am Sinistar

There is something wrong in the resurrections and so, all the characters don't come back as undead (if they aren't necromancers). It's a mystery, let's say (for now).
About the characters - it's all up to their writers, everyone is free to write what he wants.
And about Maahir - I haven't played his scenario, I didn't know that, but who knows - maybe there are other people named Maahir.

Ossir was the manipulative little b@stard that Markal planted in Findan's ranks. If you check my last post above this one, I do rant about that. Pluss, you have to remember that the comic relief always dies first

Zehir was feeling really bad. He felt so weak that he barely made it through the swamp. When he finally saw the cave he was wet, dirty and smelly. The poor elephant didn’t want to go in the swamp (for some reason) and since Zehir couldn’t make it fly or so he just went alone. Rumors about Markal’s return reached him two days ago. He felt even worse. For a second he lost control and fell in the water. He got on his feet quickly, spitting the unclean water.  He was in front of the entrance of the cave. From the inside’s came a chill. Zehir felt it before but he couldn’t remember when. He stepped inside carefully and said with a low voice.

“Are you here?” Since nobody answered him, he thought that that was a bad sign and that he has to go away from there as soon as possible.

“Do not be afraid, friend, you are always welcome in my… Hm, let’s call it home.” He managed to see her dark figure in the far end of the cave. She was sitting on a throne or something – it was too dark to say more. “Why are you silent – don’t you like it here?”

“It’s… dark, wet and fogy. It suits you well. But I’m because of important things - we don’t have time for chats. What do you know about my father?” Even if Zehir couldn’t see her, he was sure that she was smiling.

“I know nothing, dear friend, nothing. In the last weeks I was in Sheogh, I didn’t have time for the upper world. Actually, I can’t even stay here much anymore. There is too much light, don’t you think?” Zehir was getting nervous. Her tone has changed. She rose from her throne and made a few steps toward the Wizard. He went back. He clearly feared her. “What do you want? I don’t think that you care about me, not about anyone else. You only think of yourself, you “great” hero!”

“Just tell me who revived my father and how to get my magical powers back.” Even if there wasn’t much light, Zehir could see the Phoenix lady clearly now. She looked like a monster – she was wearing a typical robe for a wizard, she wasn’t really tall, she had long black hair and humanoid features, she had pointy ears, extremely pale skin, her eyes were bloody red and her skin was rough and her claws – long – just like demon’s ones. “What have you done to yourself?!”

“I found a way to slow the disease. I made myself half-vampire. It doesn’t work much, though; the demon’s venom is still killing me as you can see. Nothing has left of me. Just leave, Zehir, don’t search for me again. Help your friends - that’s my advice.” She turned her back on him and didn’t say anything more.

“They need you also; there are your friends, too. Think about it.”

“I won’t… promise anything. Take my Phoenix and go. You will need it for transport now when you have no powers. He will come back to me soon. Beware, Zehir, your true enemy is the one you least expect to be one.”

“No! I won’t leave! You know something – tell me!” He found himself oppressed by the wall, with her claws around his neck.

“I think we misunderstood each other, my dear friend!” Zehir was running out of breath. He tried to push her away but with no success. “You are pathetic.”

“You… are… not… a… monster…” She removed her claws and he fell on the floor. His neck was bleeding and he started choking.

“Oh, just heal already!”

And just like that Zehir’s wounds were healed. He sat on the floor and started thinking. The Phoenix Lady had helped him many times but things had changed. His friend was no longer human or elf or something normal – she was a freak. He closed his eyes and imagined her – the Lady from before, his Lady. She said that she was half-human and half-elf, dark elf, but who knows. She was the most powerful creature that Zehir ever met, the one who helped him and all the others in the Queen Isabel wars. But then she went in Sheogh for a mission and something went wrong. And then she just wasn’t the same. She dressed herself in Biara’s armor and something poisoned her and made her demon-like. And she was continuing to transform. She was capable of anything now.

“Please – help me! Don’t do stupid things! Do you know what’s going on? Do you know who the one that revives all is? Just say that and I’ll leave you.” She gasped and went silence for a minute.

“I know what’s going on and I know what revives. I know about your letter because I’ve received one, too.”

“Tell me! What was in that letter?” But she was already gone. The cave was only filled with her scent, the scent of suffering.

The Phoenix materialized in the cave. Zehir didn’t have much choice. He climbed on the bird and flown away from the swamp. He was going to help his friends.

Write it if you wish and if no one else wants to get it back because of my narratives.
Anyway - it's Saturday already but we're still expecting two more Fics.
And... What do you think about the Phoenix Lady?

Well, she seams kind of strange... And I still don't know how Findan would find her, but she should work

Also, I have an idea about who sent the letters. (I'll send you an HCM) This idea is only if you don't have someone picked out, though.

At this stage, I'm actually pretty sure that those with already 3 fics can move on even without narratives. I myself already have rough ideas for the next 3 of mine, including the appearance of Freyda (@evinin: next week when I'm going to assume her character, I will need you to send me her letter). Just saying.

As do I, Duncan. But I still need to know what the rest of the world is doing, and I can't write all of my enemy's moves for them... Can I? (No, seriously, can I? *Puppy dog eyes*)

Two of the involve Ossir's re-death and Sinitar's epic re-death. But I do not know what Markal will do when one of these things happens. Thus, Evinin gives me the narrative and I improvise from that point on. Really a rather nice system.

Ok now... Here's what we must do in order to make things work.
First - it's Sunday - Mark, Godric - are we getting something from you guys? The thing is that I want to do the Monday narrative today and post it today because I don't know if I'll have time tomorrow (I'm not sure for today also). I have something really special in mind.
Second - your characters know the Phoenix Lady and she knows them very well. They haven't seen her after she got her "sickness". Anyway, feel free do use her.
Third - after the one-week-deadline I'll let you choose another character. It's going to happen like this - when you get another letter you'll write a Fic only for that character and another one for your first character. Only after that you will be free to make their stories one.
Are you all good with this?

Btw Sinitar's entry reminded me of I am Sinistar

And you know what the funny part in it? In Bulgaria sanitar means health(sanitary)-officer So who came up with that name?
