Help with Fire War Campaign map (HoMM3)

Hey, I don't play online on the tournament or whatever, but I've been playing HoMM since a friend installed The Succession Wars on my PC. Since then I have played single player and with friends.

But by online standards, I'm noob.

So I'm having trouble with the map Fire War Campaign (download from here http://www.toheroes.com/h3maps/large.htm), so if u can tell some strategy/recommended opening/race whatever to help me I'l appreciate it.

Whats a better strategy - playing Rampart and taking dwellings or double building Tower?

Sorry if there is a topic to ask this kind of questions, didn't see one.

The goal was to create an early skirmisher conflict, with the middle being heavy occupied by the AI. Multiple paths, early aggressive AI, no rules. The map was intended to be played at 130%-160% max difficulty, on 200% it may be quite impossible, as you will get attacked before second week. Rampart and stronghold are the most suitable for fast win, while dungeon is very hard. Magic heros/scouts are a must in first days.

The tactics used in ToH were:

Flag all mines within first week.
Dig some holes near the water if you have a disposable secondary hero (AI can't land on holes)
Break on all directions and get rid of the AI the soonest possible, he will become very annoying if not eliminated.

With aggressive players, map usually ended before the 9th day. But could last for months too, if no rules.

I saw that it says in map descrip "recommended 130%," but I play 160%, don't think that the resources will help me any.

"Break on all directions and get rid of the AI the soonest possible, he will become very annoying if not eliminated."

Figured as much.

"Dig some holes near the water if you have a disposable secondary hero (AI can't land on holes)"

Now that I hadn't though up of. This will help me a lot.

10x for the reply Salamandre. Nice job on creating such a great map.

Also 10x for bringing The Seven Lakes to HoMM3, that was my and friends' favorite map in HoMM2.

It would be very interesting if an expert player can record and upload somewhere how he beats the map in 9 days.

Not the map, but the other player only (red vs blue).

Oh, that's not hard: move on day 6-7 your main towards the other player, taking care that the middle necro can't reach you (he has a 10 squares radius). On first day of the second week, create heroes chain and pass him the creatures production, then attack.

I thought u need to go around the Necro cuz of the 25 Ghost Dragons...

Still, even knowing how its done I can't actually pull it off (I'm not so good in battles, taking the level 4 monsters that r guarding the path to Necro isn't very easy with week 1 army for me), if someone creates a video I thinks its gonna be pretty helpful for all the players that are still learning the game (10 years of Heroes and I still can't play for sh*t...I love this game ).

For a fast win you need either stronghold or rampart. Stronghold, you can have behemots day 2, with rampart gran elves day 2. If starting with Ivor, a bunch of gran elves can kill all the map early.

Defeated Red (I played Blue) on 1-3-2 (130%) with Stronghold and the mighty Crag Hack! 10x for all the advice Salamandre.

And u can build Behemoths on day 3, because u don't start with Wolf Pen.

I can probably defeat Red sooner now that I have done the drill (it was more a test run, didn't play fully), have to try sometime to do it faster. Going around Isra is a pain tho. I'm not sure how u r supposed to do it, but I lure him out with 1 hero exactly 10 squares, keeping the one for the chain a little further, and after he takes out the bait I move the army carrying hero, which he has to have Log or at least Pathfinding to outrun Isra in most cases...

Very clever and fun map. Nice job again.
