Confusion about where the orcs live.

It seems that ubisoft wants our attention focused on the new Stronghold Faction. They will get their wish here.

I know a developer said that the orcs live on "Autum plans" (I don't know what that means exactly), but this video is only the latest chunck of visual evidence that they might live in a rainforest.

http://www.celestialheavens.com/index.php#1294925386

Note all the sences with orks are in jungle terrian. Why is the visual evidence being presented to us contraditing what the developers say?

I would appreciate any help in settling this confusion. Note I am not suggesting that anyone is trying to mislead us.

Just because you play with a certain faction in a certain tileset does not mean that the faction lives there.

Not sure what the big deal is, we've only seen the jungle terrain on ingame footage, Haven is not in the jungle either. Orcs can only be in autumn plains because the Naga don't fit plains or underground. On the screenshots with the Stronghold released last month, you can see the brown-ish plains.

Orcish rebellion in the Seven Cities, which spreads to Haven. Rejecting their masters and the Dragon Gods, the Orcs declare themselves free. In the Falcon Empire, Crusades are declared against the Orcs – attempts to subjugate them and convert them back to dragon worship. The fighting is brutal, and the Orcs are relentlessly driven back. Eventually, the unrepentant survivors flee wherever they can, including the deserts of the south, the steppes of the north-east and the Barrier Islands of the east, A great storm sinks the Haven fleet that was prepared to follow the Orcs to their island refuge. The Falcon Emperor declares this a sign from the Dragons, and formally ends the Orcish Crusades.

(467 - 504 YSD.) -The Orc Crusades

In conclusion, the orcs in H6 originate from the Pao-islands (as told in the new trailer) but the orcs from H5 were from the steppes of Ranaar. If the jungle tileset is set on the Pao-islands or the islands of Hashima is unclear but it would make sense if it were present on both. Although i´m guessing that the snow tileset is set on Hashima since the Nagas seem to have a connection to ice and snow (as the japanese climate in real life).

Your logic is a little bit off there, it's not because there's a screenshot of them in the jungle that it means their native terrain is in the jungle. Our first screenshots of the jungle were featuring Haven and Necropolis and at the time almost everyone was saying Necropolis would be in the jungle despite it being said that the Necropolis terrain were the wastelands in the PDF file.

It's as if I was saying that Orcs live in the snow since there's a screenshot of them in the snow

I would like to point out the truth in Properkheldar's words. Indeed the Orcs from TotE were Steppe Orcs from Ranaar.
The Orcs in HoMMVI are island Orcs. The come from the Blood Barrier Islands, I think Erwan called them, or Pao Islands. The same islands, different names for them.

Then there are the tribes of Desert Orcs. They live mostly in the desert peninsula where the Seven Cities float around. From the bio of the Hero Faiz we know that they are still active during HoMMV.
We also have the Orcs of DMoMM. This seems to be a single tribe that lives on the island of the Asha-temple. They seem to be of Steppe Orc origin, but as we know next to nothing of the Desert Orcs they could hail from one of those tribes as well.

So there are 3 "kinds" of Orc "nations".

Actually,in the video they call the islands "Red skull" with is a connection to DMoMaM where the tribe of orcs guarding the temple was called the "Red skull Clan" so wee might just have a connectio to the game. And if wee look at the Ashan map, the Poa (red Skull) islands ar not that far from stonhelm.

Whereas the tribe of Orc in DMoMM might have been called the Red Skull Clan, I can't remember. I know that they Stonehelm expedition didn't go to that particular island. In the HoMM adaption of the story-scenario, which you got with your copy of TotE, the party sailed to the island south of the big island where Poa hovers over.

And whereas that particular clan may have come from or named themselves after these islands. They are far more resemble the Steppe Orcs.

When you duel Aratrok, in the begining of the duel he says "Stranger, demonspawn, listen. I am Aratrok, chef and shaman of Red skull Clan.."

Well I wouldn't make my conclusions o the base of a map made on the game, but on the game itself. In the H-V map phenrig was a necromancer, with is not true in the game. (ta least I never had the feeling, more like he is an corupted wizard)

Every time I think about it I get more strongly to the conclusion that we shouldn't attach a faction to a type of terrain. If we want to create some unity for an army I think there are better and more interesting factors such as their believes. One thing I loved from HOMM4 was that the view of the towns switched depending on the terrain they were built on.

That's an intresting idea. Even so back to the matter at hand.

Ok the footage of orcs in jungle tilset is explained as far as I am concerned.

But what about that picture of Sandor and some orcs engaging a magma worm like creature in the Jungle. Also what about the obdisan and feathers in the orc clothing? No doubt this was taken from Aztec culture and the Aztecs have a reputation for living in Jungles. Granted the Aztecs had little if any Jungle in their empire in real life (they did have planes though), but I don't know that Ubisoft would know that.

Futhermore Pao Island (apparently Red Skull island) seems to have alot of forest when looked at on the map.

As a side note Elvin has informed me that the Naga are slated for the Jungle tilset. Although knowing Naga legends it would not be out of charicter for them to live underground or even under the ocean.

The Two islands south from the main island look more deserted the the main one. And also, at this time, I think Ubihole would make at least basic reseches if they want to give a particular faction inspirations by a specific nation. wee might get surprised and the last Orc tribes will by inspired by central african cultures

Really interesting thread.. Hmm all explains alot. Desert Orcs, Steppe Orcs and Island (jungle) Orcs. Im not sure about the Nagas tileset but, either snow or sharing a jungle tileset with the Orcs. And why not? In HOMM 3, both Castle and Rampart shared grass tileset.
