If I made an H6 with 5 factions only

...well, I thought about it much. What would I Do, If I was to make a HoMM (or MM:H) with only 5 factions. And one completely new? Well, I decided, I would go with the semi-finalists of the "best faction of heroes series" game/competition. These were Fortress (H3), Warlock (H2)m Necropolis (H3) and Inferno (H3). Here is some 5.faction proposal containing this (and yes: no haven, at least in the starting game). I also decided to carry on the "not so many old creatures" thing and try to make, on the whole, less than 50% old creatures.

Here my factions with lineups. (Far from ashan, btw. I still dont like ashan)

Necropolis:
The sinister Necromancers, greeding for knowledge, power and eternal life. Themselves, tehy do nto seek war so much, but they are seldomly tolerated, except by the warlocks, and often openly offended. They do not liek the demons, but rather than standing alone against all others, they may take an allience even with those.

Core:
Ghost > Wraith (Incorporal Flying melee unit)
Skeleton > Bone Guard (Versatile, good basic unit, good in melee, can also be used ranged)
Zombie > Rotten (slow, but efficient, plagueous melee)

Elite:
Lich > Deathlich (strong caster+ranged; Great for an elite caster)
Ghoul > Body Eater (VERY different from zombie!!! much more feral; Melee)
Pale Rider > Ghost Rider (Not like Black Knight! More ghostly!!! Upgrade can fly. Incorporal. Melee)

Champion:
Bone Giant > Death Giant (Undead giant. Melee)

Inferno:
The Chaotic, Evil demons, bloodthirsty, aggressive, not from this plane of existence, once crawling in through the planescar, now summoning themselves and fighting an everlasting fight against the living.

Core:
Gog > Magog (pretty much the H3 ones, though with cooler graphics)
Hell Hound > Cerberus (we know them^^)
Heretic > Demoniac (Human caster, has a pact with the demons)

Elite:
Hellcaller > Punisher (Demon who summons a fire ray as ranged attack, wounding anything in it's way)
Shade > Terror (a humanoid shade, in fact a vile demon, melee, ability-focused)
Pit Spawn > Pit Lord (Somewhere between H3 and H5 Pit spawns in both abilities and looks...much more demonic than in H3 though)

Champion:
Greater Demon > Archdemon (strong, can teleport himself (thrice per battle), has soem spells, strengthens other demons, melee)

Fortress:
The Lizardmen, in this proposal, are a bit more oriented towards a "good" faction. They are an ancient race, fighting the demons for a long time, and not liking necropolis either, but also allways in a tense with the citadel's inhabitants.

Core:
Viper > Cobra
Lizardman > Lizard Warrior (Careful Hunters of the swamps)
Caiman > Alligator (Crocodile-humanoids, great in melee)

Elite:
Snapper > Drake Snapper
Wyvern > Lyndworm
? > ? (Toad-Humanoid Priests (NOT LIKE THE WH:FANTASY ONES!!!!) good casters, though weak battle stats)

Champion:
Hydra > ?

Keep(Warlocks):
THe Warlocks in the Keep are hungry for knowledge. They are not evil, but they are a bit sinister, and they are great manipualters, allways seeking for their own benefit. They are likely to take the winning side in a conflict, unless that would do them harm - which is why they still seldomly, though not never, ally with the demons.

Core:
Gargoyle > Wargoyle (dark looking, flyer)
Werewolf > Lycanthrope (Humans who can turn into strong wolfform, upgrade can control it. Both forms are melee)
? >? (ranged unit)

Elite:
Gryffin > Battle Gryffin (more H2 like of course. Not so much focusing on glory and pride, flyer)
Spinner > Spider Queen (half woman, half spider, like a female "centaur" with a spider body replacing the horse body, some nice abilities, quick melee (little caster-aspect, but not the main focus))

Champion:
Red Dragon > Black Dragon (a classic, no need to explain )

Citadel:
The Citadels are a bastion of Order in a chaotic world. They are inhabited by Half Elves, the heirs of the High Elven race, but also by other, even more fantastic folk. They are in constant war with Necromancers and Demons, try to keep a good relation with the warlocks (though it mostly fails), and have a long history of war with the fortresses, though they also often allied when necessary.

Core:
Longbowman > Eagle Eye (ranged, great damage for a core unit, fragile)
Fencer >Blademaster (good melee unit, though pretty fragile)
Emblem > Binding Emblem (magical device, three connected, intertvinging triangles, circling around each other, can fly)

Elite:
Blind Brother > Blind Elder (
Pegasus > Pegasus Knight (An half-elf Riding a pegasus, Flyer)
Elemental Guard > Elemental Warrior (A half-elven warrior with elemental powers, melee)

Champion:
Elemental Lord > ? (A mighty combination of all elements)

...work in progress, help appreciated

If I made a Heroes game with 5 factions only, I'd go with the following:
Haven - golden standard. You simply can't have H game without human knights.
Rampart - they were in H1, plus there are many fans of elves and forces of nature.
Warlock - in their H1-H3 incarnation. I'm not calling it dungeon because the faction would not be underground-based.
Academy - in their H5 desert style.
Stronghold - they were in every Heroes game, plus everybody loves orcs.

HAVEN
Core: Sentinel, Marksman, Priest
Elite: Griffon, Paladin, Valkyrie
Champion: Angel
Special: Can purchase Dwarven Bear Riders and Berserkers as mercenaries.

WARLOCK
Core: Cultist, Harpy, Minotaur
Elite: Manticore, Medusa, Evil Eye
Champion: Hydra
Special: Can build portal to hell, allowing to recruit Imps, Cerberi, and Efreets.

ACADEMY
Core: Gremlin, Gargoyle, Living Armor
Elite: Lahmia, Djinn, Evoker
Champion: Titan
Special: Can strike a pact with Mummies, who in turn summon Skeletons and Wraiths.

RAMPART
Core: Elven Archer, Sprite, Satyr
Elite: Dendroid, Elven Druid, Giant Spider
Champion: Couatl
Special: Can summon various elementals to help: storm spirit, granite beast, etc.

STRONGHOLD
Core: Goblin, Orc, Centaur
Elite: Orc Shaman, Troll (H2 style), Thunderbird
Champion: Cyclops
Special: Orcs can force into servitude Basilisks, Wyverns, and Lizardmen.

@nightterror: Personally, I would also have gone for different factions I chose these just because they were the factions who won in the mentioned competition. To still have a mixed core of factions, I took in Citadel as new faction...
if I were to make expansions they would probably contain:

Expansion 1: Haven & Stronghold

Expansion 2: Sylvan & Dwarves

@bludge: like your factions, but they are very "old"...no new faction and most creatures old, too...I decided to take the challenge, here, and follow the line of "innovation" the devs grant us with

I would gun down the guy who had the ideia of just 5 factions in teh inicial release go for:

Heaven - Inferno - Academy - Necro - Orc

Even i love sylvan they would be out. heaven oposes inferno, academy oposes necro and orcs are related to all of this factions... well not that much with necros, but...

or I would pick
Fortress - Inferno - Necro - Dungeon - Faceless(or another evil faction)
So the dwarves would be the protagnoists of the game and they would travel arround just destroying all the evil of the world, defeating dragons, saving princessess and pillaging treasures.
The picture of the main hero:

I actually like some Steven Seagal movies. They're entertainig. However don't know who is Chuck Norris.

About picking 5 factions, I would pick:
Inferno (more carnal/less fiery) - Sylvan - Fortress - Sanctuary - Stronghold (with more flying creatures)
1st Ep - Academy / Necropolis
2nd Ep - Dungeon / Haven

I would have picked:

Haven: Defensive faction - Brittish empire, industrialistic theme.
Necropolis: Offensive faction - Aztec, swamp theme.
H3ish Dungeon: Debuffs - Cthuluish, corruption theme.
Sorceress elves - Harmony: Support - Fairytale, enchanting theme.
Palace (Naga): Utility - Far east, North korean theme.

The game would be set on a new continent, west of the H5 and H6 one. There, many factions have fled because Demons dominate the old continent.

Most? Not really, there's plenty of new stuff here and there. Plus there is this new system of extra units afiliated with each faction. There's nothing old with warlocks being able to summon few inferno units, or haven having access to few dwarfs.
I did this because it's a way to sort of circumvent the restriction of 5 factions.

What about the three good towns in evil style?

That may be nice but...more of a challenge would it be otherwise...turning Dungeon, Necropolis and Ifnerno good guys

Crypts (Necropolis)
this Necropolis is the alliance of the Guardians and Armies of Death, ensuring everyone dies in the right moment and no soul is lost, under the guidance of the Death Knights.
CORE:
-Raven > Death Eye - The envoys of Death and his eyes in the real world, soem of Death's Ravens are also Capable of taking action in a battle.
-Anubite > Boneblades - Unearthly servants of Death, summoned to ensure the circle of living and dying, these beings, armed with blades used for throwing as well as striking, are mysterious, cold and deadly.
-Skeleton > Grave Warden - If needed, Deathknights can easily summon the Bones of those begone into their service to fight for the cause of Death.
ELITE:
-Death Priest > Embalmer - It's not sure wethere these priests are still alive, but it seems otherwise. Probably they are in some state in between. They can perform rituals to lighten the path for the souls of the Dead.
-Warrior Spirit > Einherjar - The spirit of dead Great Warriors willing to fight over their Death join their new lords' army with pride.
-Sphinx > Aenigma(=riddle) - These gigantic animated statues are High Guardians in the realm of the Death Knights.
CHAMPION:
-Reaper > Grim Reaper - The Soul Collectors and closest servants of Death, in a battle-manifested form.
NEUTRAL:
-Soul Light - If absolutly needed, the Death can also send the souls of the Dead themselves into battle, but this shall only be done in times of grave need.
-Raven Guard > Raven Knight - The Raven Order are Human Knights who dedicated their live to the Service to Death. Their main goal is to vanquish all necromancers.
-Angel of Death - THese Angel with the Task to guide the dead Souls into the Realm of Death can also come down and fight in battles, as other Angels do as well.

Purgatory (Inferno)
THe Inferno originally had a role in the big plan - guarding and punishing the evil souls. This faction emphasizes on this role: rather than on feasting on the living and world domination, they strive fro destruction fo Evil.
CORE:
-Hound > Orthus - These demonic Dogs guard the entrances to hell, both from fearless, stupid visitors and from anyone trying to escape.
-Soul Hunter > Soul Punisher - A demon with and trident and living chains that entangle evil doers who tries to escape their punishment
-
ELITE:
-Fallen Angel > Hell's Angel - Some Angels have fallen, but not all completely. They have a chance to gain their power and position back, by serving in the Purgatory. Some even stay afterwards to do the job, either out of cruelty or out of a high desire for redemption
-
-
CHAMPION:
-Purifyer > Purgator - A mighty Demon in white Flames which are said that they can clean souls from sins - but under great pain and followed by deep redemption.
NEUTRAL:
-
-
-
Bosses:
-Cerberus - the Lord of the Hounds of Hell is a mighty, scary beast, poweful, hungry, and angry on anyone trying to escape.

THANK GODDDDD!!!! not everything is lost in this damn game! I never accepted griffins in castle/haven. I mean, they're correctly inserted, but I prefer them in Dungeon/Keep, or, as I liked them best, in Preserve from H4. This is because I see them as a hostile, "untamable" (or whatever the word is) creature. In other words, they're not pets or steeds to me.
But, on the other hand, once again I have to see those infernal dudes hanging around! They offer very interesting skills and creatures for the game, but I don't like them at all because, as I think I've already said somewhere else in this forum, they're just "too evil" and I prefer "dual" or "two faced" factions (that doesn't mean neutral at all, what I pretend is the factions to be capable of what we understand as "good" things and "bad" things).

I think that if you had to make only 5 factions you could relate each element with each one of them, and the remaining one would be might. I myself am working in a project close to this idea, but I couldn't avoid adding another two factions, making a total of 7. I hope one of these days I finally share with you people my project. It's just a pity I'm not as talented as Nightterror and Bludgeon to make the factions look so "yummy" to read.

And by the way: Come on people! Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down.
Chuck Norris counted until infinite twice.
Chuck Norris doesn't breathe; He grabs air, doesn't like it and just exhales it.

I think it would be nice to see a new Haven which is not based around the Medieval ages or anything like that. I think Haven is such a boring faction because it is had the same style for all these years.

I would love to see a PotC-like East Indian Company type of Haven that is based on tropical terrain.

I would also love to see a return of the Sorceress-style elves and not the boring, general Wood elves.

I really like the new Necropolis because it really has a unique look and their storyline is the coolest in Ashan. At the same time, I think Ashan lacks truly "evil" races. At the end of Ashan, it was just All VS Inferno... And that was boring. Inferno's history is also very generic and dull. It's always the same thing with the demons... "destroy the world" etc.
Perhaps an alternate version of Inferno could be based around frost and ice. We've already seen the Ice demon in H4.
