Master of Puppets [mod, available in RUS and ENG !!]

Master of Puppets is a modification for Heroes WoG.
Even though the mod uses WoG as a platform, I think it has more in common with SoD rather than WoG. Most of wog options are permanently disabled and only a few features left as optional (such as stack experience, commanders, etc). However, the first version - Seek & Destroy - is definitely not a conservative modification. The goal was to make games with AI more interesting and more difficult. And I believe that the authors have gained their object. So here are the methods they used (i.e. mod features):
- Improved interface. I'm personally in love with it: all pauses (literally, ALL) and redundant messages have been cut, new dialogues (hero window, meeting window, etc.), fast animation, useful buttons and convenient hotkeys. It takes some time to accommodate, but then you just can't play without it.
- New monsters with unique abilities. Balanced pretty well, should be noted.
- Lots of new artifacts. Some of them close logical gaps in the standard set, some are totally new and have really interesting mechanics.
- New objects and dwellings. Magic councils, subterranean passages, dwarf forts and many others.
- New mechanics like negative luck and social tension.
- Rebalanced... almost everything. Don't be afraid, changes aren't revolutionary, but it feels that all those useless secondary skills and specializations have become a bit less useless, Inferno is not that pathetic as it was, and Necropolis is not that friggin' strong. Though, it still rules.
- Players can construct new towns.
- Starting armies reconsidered.
- One new spell - Reinforcement. There will be more in the second version.
- Town relics provide different bonuses for your cities.
- Lots of other features that should make the game more interesting and balanced: marriage, raid bosses, daily experience loss, nice hero portraits and more.
I want you to notice that MoP does not affect your WoG: you can play both mods and easily uninstall MoP if you want. That's also why I'm not going to make hundreds of screenshots: easy to install, easy to try, easy to love, easy to delete.
There are no maps for this mod. It was created to play random maps. In the first version there is no alternative for that.
To install the modification you'll have to download three files:
Seek & Destroy v.1
Cumulative patch
English translation
These are three SFX-archives. Extract them to the H3 folder (order is important). Run MoP.exe.
If you have any questions or suggestions or if you find any bugs, you can contact us via e-mail, skype (see readme-file) or right there.
If you find typos or mistakes in the translation (I apologize in advance), please, send me a personal message (so the topic will be about the mod, not about my pure English).

I guess you can't expect anything less from Metallica fans
What to say... This seems realy great!
Will it be compatible with other mods? Even If it isn't keep up the good work! I really like the simplifications installed (spell hotkeys etc).

Wonderful work, I got Parkinson when looking at the video. Spells Hotkeys is a nice feature but I doubt it will be of any help for veterans. It is not easy to keep in memory 10 hotkeys when we know that the wrong spell can lead to a lost battle, and browsing through spells is player's joy. I like specially the heros DL big portraits.

Could you tell more about that "social tension" thing?

The original message is here. Again a quick translation.
My last idea is about social tension in towns. These are the points:
1. Population in towns conquered by a player demands money. Otherwise they will revolt. Money is automatically and daily confiscated from the player.
2. Approximate confiscation formula for one town is the following: (D+1)*20*n, D = Game difficulty (0...4 according to ERM), n - total number of player's towns.
3. You can pay money in advance by clicking on the special button.
4. Social atmosphere is always very good in player's start town while enemy's start town conquered by a player requires double amount of payment.
5. A neutral town considers the first conqueror to be the owner (for ever) or it considers everybody to be an enemy (so everybody would has to pay). This isn't decided yet.
6. Population in newly built towns is always friendly to its builder.
7. AI does not suffer from all this crap.
8. Racial conflicts? This needs to be considered.
Additionally: when your town with the Capitol is conquered you get another free Capitol in other town in order to support you financially.
The main purpose of such system is to make territorial advantage not so critical and give a chance to win for those who have less towns for some reasons which may be connected not only with your skills but also luck, map structure and arrangement of portals.

Assimilation status? "Social" would be a strange concept in Heroes, or in any game.(except SIM CITY, that's it)
The term assimilation is often used with regard to immigrants and various ethnic groups who have settled in a new land. New customs and attitudes are acquired through contact and communication. The transfer of customs is not simply a one-way process. Each group of immigrants contributes some of its own cultural traits to its new society. Assimilation usually involves a gradual change and takes place in varying degrees; full assimilation occurs when new members of a society become indistinguishable from older members.
Cultural influence?
A group (a state or an ethnicity) can spontaneously adopt a different culture due to its political relevance, or to its perceived superiority. The first is the case of the Latin language and culture, that were gradually adopted by most of the subjugated people.
The second is the case of subjugated, but older and richer culture, which see itself imitated by the new masters, e.g. the victorious Roman Republic adopted more from the Hellenistic cultures than it imposed in most domains, except such Roman specialties as law and the military.

Assimilation problems are social problems. So the second expression is just wider, I believe. Anyway this is the correct translation and in Russian it means same thing you should imagine reading "social problems". Of course this is more about "relating to communal living" than "spent in or marked by friendly relations or companionship".
As I understand this remark has nothing to do with the essence of the system but touches upon its name. I doubt you can see here anybody from the project team so if you consider something to be not really appropriate you'd better post it on the Russian forum.

You are right, it is only about the name, both means the same thing. However for me it is more suggestive to use assimilation than social, when dealing with goblins, gargouilles and gremlins. But that's only me.

Well, it's pretty possible that I will take part in the translation so anyway I've made a note for myself.
By the way, in Russian we have only an adoption of english "assimilation" which is quite long and complex for our language. Moreover it's not really understandable for everybody, while "social" is a simple and common word. But again - I also have doubts about goblins' social life.

There hasn't been a release date announced, however the author still posts an enormous changelog approximately once a month. I am personally sure that the first version will be out in this very year (Did I say the same about HotA two years ago? Can't remember).
May be that is why I feel responsible to update this topic from time to time. It would be nice to share changelogs with you (they are actually the most impressive thing) but it's too much text to translate. So I'm just gonna put here some pictures that show some fresh ideas.
- A dialog window with hero information (RMC on the hero portrait in the list while choosing a starting hero).

- An outsourcerer. OK, there I've just tried to play on words: outsourcer and sorcerer. Did I manage? Anyway this is a guy who stands on the map and cast spells in exchange for money. No skills required and no mana used for such a spell.

- Dwarf cottage improvement. It is an outside one, of course.

- Hero renaming. That simple.

- Additional icons around the minimap. The whole area (not only 4 present elements) is supposed to be filled with special buttons.

- Creature information window (in a battle). Additional data, additional slots for spells.

- "Super shopping" and "All rise!" buttons.

- She's married. You'd better stay away from her.

The developers of this mod do not work with unit graphics. So these creatures cannot be completely new. Whether you saw them earlier or not - this is another question. I personally know nothing about these gnomes.
