Ryan is a good choice. He is popular with the Tea Party and will keep Tea Party votes from going to some third party candidate who will only lose and ensure Obama wins. Ryan is also a Catholic. With Obama's history of hostility towards religion and especially his recent attacks on Catholicism this will give even liberal Catholics a reason to support the Romney-Ryan ticket. Ryan is a strong conservative leader and his pick as a running mate was an astute decision on Romney's part.

Liberal "journalists" wasted no time in attacking Ryan.

NBC's Andrea Mitchell, in her attempt to put Mitt Romney's choice of Paul Ryan as his running mate in context over the weekend, declared the selection is "not a pick for women."

The comment quickly caught fire on conservative blogs, and the Media Research Center pointed to it as an early sign of the negative coverage the Wisconsin congressman can expect going forward.

"(Mitchell has) wholeheartedly jumped into this war-on-women meme that the Obama people have put out," said Rich Noyes, MRC's research director, accusing Mitchell of trying to "amplify the Obama campaign's message."

Mitchell made the remark Saturday as Romney was rolling out his running mate in Virginia, suggesting Ryan was chosen in an appeal to the Republican base.

"I think you're going to see that they (have) decided that this is a base election," Mitchell said in her live report. "This is not a pick for suburban moms. This is not a pick for women. This is a pick for the base."

......

Mitchell earlier ran into controversy over her coverage of the race in June when her program aired an edited version of Romney's comments about the convenience store Wawa, to make it sound like he was amazed that the store uses a computerized system to take sandwich orders. In reality, he was facetiously comparing the tech-savvy private sector to the clumsy government bureaucracy.

I think Ryan would love the idea to send all american people who earn less than 100,000 $ a year to Puerto Rico to have a USA with only rich and wealthy people.

I guess he spent too much time playing "The Sims"....

Wow, that fleabagger blog was written by quite the liar. No one is trying to suppress voting by citizens in those states. Course fleabaggers rely on voter fraud to get their candidates elected so I do understand why they oppose positive identification as a requirement to vote.

Them choosing Ryan is like handing over the election victory to Obama.

The Republicans needed someone who could reach out to a larger mass of people. People who might not already be convinced conservatives or republicans.

Ryan is an intellectual with a great understanding of finances, the current budget, and what is going to happen to American unless things change. Obama is a charismatic front man who can't articulate much besides "uh" unless it is on a teleprompter for him to read.

Here is something interesting.

Clicky

Quote:

A group of former military and intelligence operatives launched an aggressive campaign against President Obama Wednesday, accusing the president of claiming undue credit for the Usama bin Laden raid and suggesting his administration is behind politically motivated security leaks.

The group, called Special Operations OPSEC Education Fund Inc., unveiled a 22-minute video on its website, and pledged to go on air with a TV ad sometime in September.

In the video, an array of retired CIA agents and other intelligence personnel suggest the administration has been leaking security details for political gain, and specifically criticize the president over his public handling of the bin Laden raid.

"Mr. President, you did not kill Usama bin Laden. America did," Navy SEAL Ben Smith said in the video. "The work that the American military has done killed Usama bin Laden. You did not."

The web video showed clips of Obama's press conference in early May on the Pakistan raid, highlighting his comments about directing the mission. The video left out the rest of the remarks in which Obama thanked the "countless intelligence and counterterrorism professionals" involved.

So far in the presidential campaign, Vice President Biden has most frequently made the bin Laden raid a theme in political speeches.

On Wednesday, he repeated the quip that he's proposed a campaign bumper sticker: "Usama bin Laden is dead and General Motors is alive."

He has a pleasing voice, but he is a poor debatant if you care to remeber what exactly he says. First he talks about solutions, then he talks about how not solving it would be a nice solution after removing the bill itself. The video is roughly 2-3 minuttes of empthy points as well, but its most likely there to give himself time to think out proper elaboration of his thoughts.
The "problem" is that if he wins, there is no garanti that he will actually sit down and revamp the healthcare bill into something more useful, or that the senate and congress will agree on this. Even if, there is nothing stopping the current administration from taking his advice and fixing it. Which again implies its a problem elsewhere in the system, which neither of them intends to fix.

So I'm playing the "Political Machine" and it occured to me that the electoral system you use is completly retarded.

Sure, it makes the campaign cool and strategic but it makes ZERO sense that the candidate with the majority of the votes might LOSE.

What's funny is for a country that is so opposed to socialism, the electoral votes system fits perfectly with that ideology.

You have to remember when the Constitution was written.  At the time, it was much harder to tally the popular vote.  It's also consistent with the framework of a representative republic.  There's nothing socialistic about it.  Part of the problem is (if I recall correctly) that the states have the ability to determine how their electoral votes are distributed - meaning some of them are "winner take all" and others divide according to how the popular vote in that state breaks up.  If electoral votes were governed by federal law, we wouldn't have this issue.  But when the Constitution was written, states' rights were much more important, and it's unlikely the states would have ever given up control over the destiny of their electoral votes.

I agree that the system is fairly obselete given the technology at our disposal today.  However it is unlikely to change and only in very rare circumstances would one candidate get a majority of the popular vote but lose in the electoral college.  There are much bigger issues with the American voting system.

The United States is a group of states bound together with a central government. The Constitution spells out the few powers (enumerated powers) the federal government is to legitimately exercise. The states or the people retain all power not specifically stated as being exercised by the federal government.

The electoral college is a means of balancing popular vote and the interests of the various states. That is also the reason for having a House of Representatives that is reflective of the population of the states and a Senate in which each state has the the same number of senators. The US is a large and diverse nation with diverse regional interests. Without such considerations the more populous states like California and Texas would rule over the rest of the nation.

The electoral college seems socialist to me since it is about distributing electoral votes to those "needing" them the most. Like how a socialist government would distribute more tax money to healthcare than space exploration.

Quote:

It just feels democratically wrong that one state's voting power should be of more value than another state's.

How hard is it to change the constitution anyway?
It feels like a massive flaw if it is nigh impossible to change.
Sure, in my country the constiution is hard to change too. But our constiution has like four major things in it. Obvious things such as freedom of speech (though maybe owning a gun is an obvious thing in the US)

Elaboration:
The constitution was written at a time where moving a mere 500 kilometers would require extreme amounts of logistics and planning and cash reserves, along with perhaps several weeks if not months of traveling. The original scheme for the US government required each state to be segregated by their boundaries, due travel distance. The result would be that there would be a own set of politics and sovereignty in each state.

What happened was that after some point it became possible to actually travel between the states, the automobiles made it even more possible, and the political system fell apart while there was various attempts at forming larger parties who automatically won due voter majority.
At some point, this formed a 2 party block, which is at roughly a permanent 50/50 split in normal and harsher times. Only in times of severe emergency this changed, but those are exceptions.

I salute obama doing that. Religion in general deserves no respect. The right to confront religious fanaticism with harsh critic is being taken away nowadays because of religious people getting offended by critics-Really?

You have NO right to freedom of speech on these forums, Seraphim.  I don't know why people think they do, but they do not.  Freedom of speech only comes into effect when dealing with a government entity.  You are not free to say whatever you want on these forums.

In the future, I'd advise against calling anyone's faith "pathetic" and keep it to yourself.
