My thoughts are: the more of that type you get, the more those votes will be divided up and made ineffective.

Rick Santorum is apparently "In it to win it".

Yeah, just what the GOP needs, another far right wing, socially conservative religion nut with no chance of capturing votes from the middle.

Better than some far left socially liberal anti-theist nut who is Republican in name only.

The liberal freaks are wasting their time and money running for the GOP nomination this election. The Tea Party will determine the nominee. It is back to the Constitution time.

Of course when the Republican Convention rolls around there will be deals made all the combined delegates of the conservative candidates will crown the nominee with a runner up being the VP candidate on the ticket.

Palin + Ron Paul for the win if Paul consents to be VP. Romney and Gingrich are wasting their time.

It's twice now that I've heard the comment that people are moving to the southern states and thus increasing the clout of the conservatives.  What's being forgetten however is that when people migrate they bring their political views with them.  States that were previously lock-solid conservative become more competitive.

Let's take a look at the last presidential election.  Here they are, the original secessionists states-righter's. The first number is Obama's percent of the vote, the second number is the McCain/Palin ticket.

Virginia: 53/46
N Carolina: 50/50 (Obama)
Georgia: 47/52
S Carolina: 45/54
Texas: 44/56
Alabama: 39/60

That Virginia and N Carolina went for Obama is not too surprising.  What is surprising is how competitive Georgia has become and the fact that Obama still managed to get 44% of the vote in Texas.

Edit: Some more numbers just for comparison

Tenessee 42/57
Idaho 36/62
Utah 35/62
Wyoming 33/65

You should all vote for Sarah Palin.

I would really appreciate it.

I just realized that most foreign readers probably aren't aware of the huge American in-joke that is Rick Santorum.

Several years ago a nationally known columnist by the name of Dan Savage, angry at Santorum's continued diatribes against gay people, held a contest to see who could come up with the best meaning for the word "Santorum".

I remember reading the column when he originally held the contest.  I've forgotten all of the entries except for the very last one, which immediately stuck in my mind.  It was the entry that eventually won the contest by a landslide.  Since then the word has passed into common usage, which is why if you google the definition of the word 'santorum' you will find this:

Quote:
Santorum 1. The frothy mix of lube and fecal matter that is sometimes the byproduct of anal sex. 2. Senator Rick Santorum.

If you want you can get the whole story here

What do you guys think of Herman Cain?

He's kind of like Elodin, grew up poor. Father worked 3 jobs to get them a house. Hew worked through college. He's a tea party darling. Worked his way through sheer tenacity to vice president of Pillsbury, to upper management at Burger King to President of some pizza place I forget the name of Godfather's Pizza.

Lots of business sense and lots of energy. I remember Corribus saying he could get behind a real, successful business person.

Romney is the only one that has a prayer of beating Obama in 2010.

Elodin, no one running for the GOP nomination is a liberal.  There's only varying degrees of crazy.  I hope the tea party does hold as much sway as you say so that a loon is nominated.  It will make the election season so much more fun, and an Obama re-election that much more likely.

Run, Sarah, run!

I've never really cared about the elections in the USA. The candidates promise many things, but they don't actually hold their promises. And it doesn't seem like any of them understand how the economic system works, they just ask their advisors about what to do. But this year there's one who can actually make a difference, and his name is Ron Paul. And I think he can win. He did great in the republican debate and has won two of the straw polls so far. His following is bigger and more dedicated than ever, and the media can't shut him out as they did in the last election. If USA continue the way they do the dollar will eventually collapse, and that will have worldwide consequences!

Conservatives are always right about American history and the Constitution. Libs think America was founded by Carl Marx and Richard Dawkins.

Uhboma will get trounced by whoever is the GOP nominee. His bounce from the military taking out Osama is gone and he will continue to sink in the polls as his loony liberal policies are taking the US down the toilet.

Yes, some liberals think false things. Other liberals just read a book by Richard Dawkins and parrot his wrong thoughts.

Or the reality could just be that everybody is shades of right and wrong with nobody being 100% of anything.

To expect people to be some avatar of correctness is to be disappointed unless you can put up a proper reality distortion field to shield yourself from it. People of every political affiliation are capable of this.

That's not true. God created the Republicans in his own image but didn't bother too much with the Democrats and the liberals in general because he didn't like their ideas even before they came to being via his will.

Have you even read any Dawkins? Cos I've read God's work, and between you and me, the Bible gets parroted a lot more and is generally a lot wackier than The Selfish Gene.
