Make sure you are running the correct executable. The mod uses a different .exe (H5_AIadv_31j.exe) than the original game (H5_Game.exe). If you run the original exe with the mod's game files, these mod specific options will appear in the menus but none of them, or any other mod features will work.

Steam obviously doesn't know this and probably runs the unmodified TotE exe if you try to launch the game via the Steam client. Possibly related thread: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1937635.

You could try one of the following:
1) do as suggested in that thread and add the AI mod as a "non-steam game" in Steam
2) just run the executable manually, without steam
3) rename the executables so that the AI mod exe has the name of the original exe (probably not recommended, if you try this, backup your files first!)

The executables are located in the "Heroes of Might and Magic V - Tribes of the East"/bin folder.

Note that I haven't tried any of these solutions (as I do not have H5 via steam), so I cannot guarantee that any of them will work.

Good luck!

Hello,

First off thank you for this great patch !

I have some crash issues on win 7 64 bits (running app in XP SP3 compatibility mode)

On one particular game I have crashes at the 6th month in a Random Generated Map, when I click on the spellbook of johra (my hero), at a specific position only.
OR if I manage to dodge the crash by clicking from a different location, I get no crash this time, but later loading the save will crash.

Also, the spell book is always stretched and looks a bit weird, but I can live with it.

I can provide the map + 2 saves for debugging purpose.

I also noticed another fatal bug with artifacts, when I switch some sets the 4p property still gets counted as active even though i don't have it on anymore. (I tried to save this one, but it crashes at loading as well)

I'm wondering, could it be a bug related to the amount of items in the inventory ? (I have a lot, since I tend to sell only when needed, which in late game, is pretty rare)

Does anybody know what happened to the EE/AI mod forum http://forum.eternal-essence.com/ ? I tried to log there a few times recently and I get a message "Server not found".

S.

Edit: I have found the answer at Q's post one page before, I'm sorry. To the moderators: you may delete this post.

I'm 100% sure about that now.
I'm convinced those late games crash I get are due to a too high number of items in the inventory. Tested a working save, only selling stuff in the market caused a crash when loaded a save I made after this point. (I just happened to defeat a hero which had lot of stuff in his inventory)

I think this bug is in the original ToE game too, I have a lot of late game crashes like this when my inventory gets big.

For someone with access to the source code this can be fixed by adding a cap to the max items a player and a computer can hold.
The problem comes when an opponent is defeated and all the items are transfered automatically to the winner, it can corrupt the future saves if their number is too big.
(still obtainable by recruiting him on the tavern)

Anybody can investigate on that ?

To everyone in HC who is following this project,

I communicated with Q about a week ago, and he told me work on the AI is progressing, albeit slowly. In reply to my request, Q also decided that we would not post any promotional material or content that has been produced for EE until 3.2 is completed. The dedicated EE forum ended up becoming too much of a distraction, and I think he took the hacking incident as a sign to shut everything out so he could concentrate fully on the project.

I won't reiterate how massive an effort this is for a single programmer; that horse has been beaten to death, reanimated, then beaten to death again on the old forum. If you think it's frustrating for you guys, you should be in our shoes. Out of necessity, all other facets of the project have ground to a halt - there's simply nothing else that can be done until the AI is finished, and everything's being kept under wraps for good reason. I would not have invested the inordinate amount of time I have personally in this project if I didn't believe Q was going to complete what he started. As with the others who know what we've put into it, we can only sit back and marvel at what Quantomas has done, and what he is still tackling.

Hang loose, it'll be worth the wait.

Thanks for the update.

I have been patiently waiting for 3.2 since the new site was launched and will still be patiently waiting when it is eventually released.

Sherekhaan,

You're welcome. Q has made it abundantly clear he won't release this project until it's ready, and he's set the bar high.

While restarting to play HoMM5 with the enhanced AI, I'd like to play with the heroes option but with lower hero levels with neutral stacks.

Currently it is either too easy (heroes only with artifact guards or treasure building) or too hard as often the heroes in company with neutral stacks are at a higher levels then my attacking hero.

Is this possible by modding or hex editing ?

The guy that is making the enhanced AI mod actually got the source code. I'm not sure if we can mod it to make it different, it's probably have to be some sort of hex editing if you did.

I believe the guy that made it plans to fix the issue with neutral heroes being either crazy hard or too easy but he's disappeared mostly from the forums, only popping in on occasion to say he's still working on the mod.

To avoid any confusion I will try to clarify this as good as I can until EE developers come back, but take in mind this is based on memories of the old website. Me and Quantomas have not spoken in a long time, not for any special reason, just that we haven't been around here in the same timeframe.

1. Eternal Essence is now a commercial indie project aimed to combine gameplay elements of homm, civilization and dragon age.
2. Eternal Essence will 'disconnect' from H5 because H5 cannot be developed commercially, unless by Ubisoft, therefore the old H5.5 project is abandoned. 3.2 AI is the only part of EE that is still developed for H5.
3. I started for my own purposes new H5.5 project called MMH5.5 to satisfy similar goals as H3.5WOG => much richer adventure map, better gamemechanics (and as bonus better RMG)
4. New H5.5 is not a replacement or continuation of EE, It is an independent reattempt to make a H5.5 reality.
5. Old H5.5 and new H5.5 are structurally different - To put in language heroesfans understand old H5.5 was like VCMI because the source was redeveloped (C++), new H5.5 is like WOG because it is a script extension (LUA, not ERM) which can be run by any H5 exe file, including this one. It is however limited by the script functions the source code understands.

Does this mean that the crashes in late game are likely to be fixed ? (the ones I mentioned few posts higher)

I recently played a game on 31j with huge amount of artifacts in my inventory and did not have your issues. I think the mapsize was L+ug. CTDs in H5 are mostly because of lack of memory. Fixing it would probably mean converting it in a 64bit application addressing much more memory, I cannot do that I'm sorry.

Well it's a pretty late game bug many people seem to have (I reported it to UBI years ago) It's almost guarranted to happen on maps set to impossible size, around month 4+, sometimes later...
Anyway TY for your answer

It does seem to work
I just managed to complete an 8 player map of impossible size with underground and no water that lasted over 10 months.
However, at month 4 I noticed the same item corruption I talked about (set pieces that were counted ON, without having the said sets equipped at the time, which allowed me some pretty OP set combos that would however be impossible)
This set item corruption did not lead to any fatal crash of visible bug.
I also sold a lot of items as I suspected there is some bug when too much inventory space is used. (I tend to see a pattern of weird objects in the end game AI's bag, like 10 identical boots coming straight up mixed up with 10 identical crappy rings, when I kill an AI hero)
Will do more testing and see how it goes.

EDIT : perhaps I need to make additional processes LAA to solve the item bug, or maybe even some DLLs I don't know...
Any ideas ?
