What did you have the look ahead set to? I realized mine was only on normal. This AI tended to rock me if it wasn't on the easiest settings so I never had it set to the slowest setting.



I can't exactly remember, as I haven't played Heroes 5 in a while either, let alone turned that computer on. I'm pretty certain that I'd put the graphics at their lowest, because I usually do whenever I use older PCs..... Unless I'd forgotten to, which is making me wonder if I did, speaking that you didn't have any problems with your XP (the same operating system that my computer has).

Next time I load it up again, I'll have to try that out and see if it helps.

Just wanted to report that 3.1j exe crashes in Windows 10, while original ToTE exe works fine.

If you are still working on this mod, that would probably be something to look at.

It does work on Win10. But the mod is incompatible with Mixed Neutrals, NCF, NHF and god knows what else.

What is the general opinion of the 3.1n beta?
Have you used it?

I am about to begin the original campaigns using ToTE. Would I be better to use 3.1j or 3.1n?

31j is the best, but all versions will have serious script bugs with the campaign missions.

only mmh55 has those debugged, so if you don't play mmh55, use the regular exe for the campaigns or play with 31j and switch to the regular exe if a bug occurs (probably requires mission restart).

So I could play the original campaigns in mmh55?
Didnt know that
I have two installs at the moment
I could play both side by side as it were
Might be interesting to experience the contrast
Are the original campaigns in the standard download of 5.5?

Yeah, everything pre TOTE content is included in MMH5.5! All single and multi maps are also included.

I think Q has been dedicated to his new game for a long while. He recently posted here and at CH about a iirc HoMM-like kick-starter project.

I'm having this problem also.  I created a random xl map with 4 2 player teams and about 2 months in my yellow player kept getting yellow player ponders.  

I was able to get him going again in case anyone else has this problem.  I saved the game before I pressed end turn then exited Homm 5 game and restart the original Tribes of the East game without the AI mod.  Loaded the saved game and end turn and then saved again at start of turn and return to AI mod.  All the players were moving again with no messages  

Been running good for next 2 months so far and nothing seems to be different.

Sounds like you are not using 3.1 "J"? Some of the older A.I. versions had that problem.

That's the version I'm using. I heard it was more stable than N? It was just the one player so far but I've been able to fix it.

In this same game my ally just stopped moving even though it didn't say he was 'pondering'.  The strongest of his hero's was just sitting at the portal and the other was sitting at a mine for like 4 turns till I did the same trick and used standard Tribes exe for a turn and then came back and he started moving again.

I must say this AI mod was exactly what I wanted 8 years ago when I was playing originally.  I couldn't play any games larger than medium to large which had all the castles pretty much with a week run of each other.  Takes almost 5 minutes a turn with standard exe even with my new computer compared to like 30 seconds with this AI mod.  

Great job on it  I can finally play H5 the way I like to with XXL maps and 8 ai's.  They're doing a good building there towns and flagging mines and getting troops too.

If not for Q's work I would not have been able to make maps in H5. I don't care for small to medium maps, I want an adventure not a stroll in the park.

The only thing I wish he'd done for "J" was put in a 50/50 chance of an enemy hero being willing to fight when the armies are close to even. As it is they run away almost without exception.

As far as having a team standing about doing nothing, I've seen this and 'my guess' is; that faction was assigned "victim" behavior. There are 5 sections within the editor for A.I. behavior and if a map has that setting on Random, well, you might be seeing a victim.

My friends & I always found that was the biggest problem.  No matter how much we enjoyed a game it was always very anti-climatic to have big arch-enemy AIs just flee (AI army gone).  No big battles, AI flees & disappointing game over.  We want to get back into H5 again & try H5.5 but that anti-climatic thought is making us hesitate & just do my version of H3.5WoG instead.

When 2 opposing armies are roughly equal is it possible to give the AI temporary Shackles of the Last Man (aka "shackles of war") for 1-battle that vanishes after the battle?  Even better if it only affected the AI since it is the one with the cowardice problem.  I would prefer every battle have both armies be "shackled" than the anti-climatic alternative.

Or maybe there's a way to let fleeing AIs keep their armies (with that hero) whenever it flees?  Even keep the hero if necessary. Maybe a fleeing AI just gets teleported instead of defeated?

Some of these ideas sound extreme, but the cowardly AI is the worst problem IMO.

Conversely, I recently played a H3WoG game (no AI mod) where not only did I fight a big long battle with the AI, but the AI won & the AI was smart enough to blind my last unit (no hero turns in H3 if all your units are blind/dead/petrified/etc) then resurrect all it's dead units (that could be resurrected) before finishing me off.
