Star Titles

As I've actually managed to gather some qp's as time has gone by, something is worrying me. The title you're affixed with. It's okay to be promising, not so good to be responsible and awful to be honorable!

Are you trying to scare people from writing good posts?

Sounds like you're the student council body or something...

So change it to something a bit more heroish, and before that, I refuse to receive more qp's!

My impression is that some QP given to some members are not actually because of quality but political influence, like I suck on you RMS now give me QP.

Also I'm not sure higher ranked members with or without QP gives respect to lower class member(s) such as newbies. Some just ignores, critisize or discriminate newbies. I don't want to give examples but just my observation... Is it just me who's noticing this?

How about some respect for those who have worked hard to get their qp:s and prefix titles?

And how about some respect for the moderators' judgement for what to give qp:s? In my opinion the vast majority of all qp:s are well deserved and goes to the right people and generally also for the right posts.

It doesn't work to delete threads or posts to remove QP:s, so there's no need to try. Penalties and Bonuses are not dependent on the post actually residing on the forums.

DonGio... If you don't like the prefixes, then suggest prefixes that are better! It's easy to whine about the names that exist and much more difficult to come up with better ones. I thought that the names were a bit odd at first but after getting accustomed to them I find that they're actually fairly good.

If you can't come up with better prefixes, then I'd suggest silently accepting that the names are not bad after all.

Oh, you made me so sad... Do you want to know why I don't want this title? Because I'm not promising. I didn't promise anything . Ok, that was a joke. ButI really don't deserve that title, that's why I want to get rid of enough QPs to drop that 3rd star.

Uh, Djive, my initial thread was intended to have a humourous undertone, which I thought shone through quite clearly (although I wouldn't mind if the prefixes were a bit cooler ).

Dang, girl, why you always gotta be so darn serious?

And if they put the prefix for the yellow stars first, they could change it to something like "Famous Dragonslayer Hero". I think that would be cool.

Sure, there was a humourous under-tone but then I'm getting a little bit tired on all the complaining on quality points.

Complaints that you get them, don't get them, somebody else gets them or somebody else doesn't get them.

Quality points are the result of actions you do on the community, and they are that in very much the same way as the post-count and the yellow stars. The main difference is that it's more difficult to get qp:s.

What has "Dragonslayer" to do with posting things with substance/quality?

"Promising" means showing promise. It doesn't mean that you have promised anything.

I haven't reached the status of 'Honorable', only Shae has that status.

If you really want to change things I'd suggest changing like this. Let the yellow stars be the prefix and the red stars be the suffix as follows:

Yellow stars:
0 Lurking
1 Hired
2 Adventuring
3 Known
4 Famous
5 Supreme

Red stars:
0 Scoundrel/Villain
1 Peasant/Serf
2 Citizen/Member
3 Squire
4 Hero/Knight
5 Lord

Of course actual prefixes could be discussed, but the more red stars the higher status. One of the not so good things with the current system is that it gives away the status of 'hero' a bit too easily.

But then again... I believe the current system is good so there's not really any need to change it.

Actually, what's wrong with the titles? I think that these for the red stars are even better than those for the yellow stars.
Bad-mannered - this is maybe one of the best. It shows that the person has broken the rules.
Promising - that means (I think) that the person is developing and the future for him is good, i.e. this member is useful for the community and in the future many good things can be expected from him. For example, to become:
Responsible - not that he is so responsible now, but basically such a person is expected to care more about his posts and not to write nonsense.
Honorable - since he has earned so many read stars that gives him a bit of honour.
But the titles for the yellow stars are somewhat strange.
Tavern Dweller - nowadays it sounds more logical. Almost every new member decides to make a tavern of his own...
Hired Hero - this is strange. Who has hired him? The community?
Adventuring Hero - it is agreeable. He walks around the threads in the community, sometimes writing a reply, which can be assumed an adventure.
Known Hero - yes, after some posts some people will notice that member. So he is known.
Famous Hero - now even more people will notice that member. So he is not only known, but also famous.
Supreme Hero - I don't like this. It sounds like everyone who writes thousands of replies is superior to the others. Why should we cause this inferior complex? I think supremacy shouldn't be deserved by replies (and maybe by anything). There should be a more neutral title... What about World-known Hero or Veteran Hero?
And that's it. About titles such as Peasant and Squire - no. Sorry, but that doesn't tell anything. Why do you think the peasant can't write quality posts and the squire can? I have seen a Bulgarian message board in which the more posts you write, the bigger status you receive. But each status was actually a name of a creature from Heroes 3. So someone with 100 replies can be Crusader, someone with 300 - Mighty Gorgon and someone with 700 - Archangel. Why? Who said that the Archangel writes more posts than the Mighty Gorgon or the Mighty Gorgon writes more posts than the Crusader? This doesn't make sense.
So I suggest that we should stop criticizing the titles and get used to them. And I want to know what does "Hired Hero" mean and what do you think about the "Supreme" status.
That's all.

You forgot the title for 0 red stars: Disgraceful.

I didn't say the proposal was better, I like the one we have better.

However, if you don't like peasant then try something like 'rascal' instead or any title that makes you think bad-mannered.

The current system for red stars say how you can be expected to behave on the board. In the alternative they instead give you a title on the board which should loosely associate to said behaviour.

As for supreme it's probably easier to insert a new title at the lower ranks (and promote Famous to the five star level) than trying to think of something, especially considering that there's a 6th star and thus a sixth prefix also.

I disagree partly, Djive. But let me say first that your star proposition was a good one. But the part about how you're likely to behave is an odd one. I would rather say it indicates the quality of the hero's threads. Look at Shae, for instance. She isn't exactly the most polite hero I've ever met, and she didn't get all those red stars for behaving properly (in that case, I don't think she would've received them ). She got them for making good points and fresh thoughts.

You ask "what does Dragonslayer have to do with writing good posts?" (or something like that, anyway). I could say "what does Supreme have to do with writing a helluva lot of posts?" See, I think the point here is to be rewarded for posting many or/and good posts, and seeing as we play HOMM, and therefore probably are fascinated with the concept of Heroes and such, the reward should, in my opinion, keep in the mood of the setting.

Responsible and Honorable sound boring and dull. Takes away some of the shine of the red stars.

I like the actual names, but it would be better if they just left you name yourself. Like: "You've got a new star, give yourself a name." Or ask the community to give you a name. It would be better.

You already have a user defined custom status... It appears after the word "hero" on a separate line, and the user can set it to whatever he/she wants. (If you look under my Avatar, you see "Zapper of Toads".)

In addition to this members can also tailor their signature for a similar effect. (The text which ends each of your posts, and you can also add a longer text to your biography, which is shown when somebody views your profile.)

Both of you have both a custom defined status and a signature so you should be aware of this. This is for you to tailor.

The status we're talking above is the one you earn from the Heroes Community, and this should be the same for the whole community otherwise there's no point in having it.

Djive,

you and I and Shae are girls, ain't we. How does

Milena the Promising LORD sound? This is what highly irritated me in the 3do comm. Elouise the Errand BOY! Javai the Time LORD! Ann S the King's MAN!

we don't have a girl but we have one more title: Heaven;y KING. What if *I* chose Might good?

So, I think the system here is rather fine. When I disagree with is that we can give titles to ourselves. It's better when we deserve them.
