Darkness Calls.

Some orginal, and not so original ideas for the darker side of some factions.  Including (imo) better units then the Renegades were in H5.

Perdition - Haven is supposed to be a sanctuary, but sometimes that sanctuary becomes a nightmareish prison.  A prison where your worst nightmares come to life.

Core Units -
Shadow Hounds - Used to keep prisoners from escaping, they are trained to track and attack.

Mastiffs - No ordinary dog, these huge canines can strike fear into even the stoutest of hearts.

Track - Abilities that normally make it so an attack has a chance to miss are ignored.  There is no fooling of these creatures senses.

Vital blow Trained to go after vital spots, all deffense values are considered half for opponits when calcualting damage.

(Mastiff only) Fear Aura - Does not work on undead, mechanical units, or elementals.  Has a 10% chance of: 50% of the time causing no retaliation or 50% chance of causing the unit to flee after being attacked.

Bandit - Mostly cowards, they are good at taking things that do not belong to them.

'Privateer' - A bandit that secretly works for the 'state'.  Their job is to sow chaos, so that the common populace is willing to do anything it takes to get them gone..including obeying the 'law' without question.

Ambush Activated ability, a one time no retaliation attack that does 150% of normal damage.  Reduces targets speed by 1 for remaineder of fight also.

BlackJack If hitting from behind (or during ambush), has a 10% chance of stunning any creature that can be stunned.

(Privateer only) Slippery Anything that reduces their movement or initiative has a 50% of failing.

Overseer - These giant kin are typically not smart enough to ask questions, but strong enough to enforce any 'laws' passed.

Ogre - The overseer becomes an ogre, once they have had raw human meat.  They aquire a taste for flesh, and feed so often they grow to enormous proportions.

Commanding Presence Increases all allied units within one hex speed by 1.

Tough Hide All non-magical damage is reduced by 1 per enemy unit (ie like an opposite frenzy).

(Ogre only) Devour - Can swollow any (1) small (ie 1x1 hex) friendly unit to increase attack.  Bonus stays until end of combat, and is cumulative.  Amount of attack gained is dependant on : If unit is core, elite, or champion.

Elite Units

Twisted - Some creatures or men are taken down to the torture chambers..and never seen from again.  It is not sure if the twisted come from the creatures, or those men.  All that is known is that they blindly obey their 'masters', and hate everything.

Tormented - Sometimes the 'experiments' go horribly wrong (or more wrong then normal) and creatures of pure agony arise..seeking to spread that agony to any and all they can.  There is a 10% chance every time they act that they will fly into a frenzy and attack the nearest creature regardless if friend or foe.  However, their strength and abilities make them worth the risk.

Loathing If a creature is affected by morale, and it strikes either a Twisted or Tormented, it's morale is reduced by one (one time per combat, but remains for the rest of the combat).

Hate Friends and foes alike can feel the hate radiating from these creatures.  Just being in the same battlefield lowers every other cretures (that is affected by morale) morale by 1.

(Tormented only) Torment Afflicts any living creature with pain and torment.  Reduces damage and HP by 10% for 3 rounds.  Worse, if any of their friendly units come within one hex of the creature that is affected by torment, it spreads to those creatures.

Executioner - Masters of dealing death, they know the weakspot of all living creatures.  With their trademark dark hoods, and deadly axes..they deal death for money.

Assassins - Ranged, No melee penalty, no ranged penalty Where the Executioner does their death dealing face to face, the assassin prefers to do it from a distance..and they are generally MUCH better at dealing death.

Know Weakness Reduces the armor of any living creature they face by 50%

Fatal Strike They are so proficient at dealing death that each strike causes more units to die then normally should.  2 extra for Executioner, 3 extra for Assassin..regardless if those units are core, elite, or Champion .. as long as they are living creatures.

(Assassin only) Patience Activated ability.  The stack waits..and when a melee strike is about to land on them..they strike first..and then strike again after the blow has landed. (this only works on the first melee attack..so if another unit attacks or the enemy has multiple attacks..they do not get any extra retaliations).

Channelers Flying, Caster, Ranged.  Ranged penalty, melee penalty - If these were once human, they no longer can be recognized as such.  They have master the channelling of all the pain, misery, and hate generated by these dark prisons. When not casting spells to destroy their foes, they like to fire bones (fingers mostly) ripped from their victims at the enemy.  However, these have very limited range (1/4 at long distances, 1/2 at very close distances).

Envokers Flying, Caster, Ranged, Ranged Penalty, Melee Penalty  - Having made pacts with creatures best left undesturbed, their decent to evil is now complete.  They do not know the meaning of the word..'mercy'.

Caster (Both) - Decay, Siphon Life, weakness, suffering.  (Envoker) Summon Vile*

Feed Melee attack not only drains life, but mana as well (if a creature has mana 25% of the damage goes to draining that mana instead of life)

(Envoker only) - Envokers Revenge When the Envoker stack dies, the last enemy unit (Ignoring any friendly units that may have been controlled to attack it) to deal damage to the Envoker has Decay cast on it at Expert Mastery (10 spell power).

Elite - Still working on a name for these.

Description - Sort of like a wraith(h5), only no hood and a Iron Mask.  The unupgraded one would even have the blue fire thing going.  Think Ghost Rider (with blue flame and iron mask) meets wraith.  The upgraded one would have red flame(not pink ), and the mask would have bolts on it.

Both would have : Dark Presence - All Dark Magic spells cast by X% harder to disspell, and there would be a X% chance that any light spell would be countered.  Where X is the number of units (maybe divided by 2 or 3) in the stack.

Elemental Immunity - Immune to any spell from the Destructive School.

The Upgraded version would have : Fire Shield - Ie when attacked the attacker takes damage (like the phoenix had).

'Racial' Specialty.

Dark Pact - The Angels no longer protect their troops from damage in battle, so they turn to much darker and more sinister forces.  This speciality causes the enemy to take additional combat damage for a set amount of time..upto double damage.

Not sure about any special buildings or such at this time.  Next up will be the even darker side of Inferno.

Hey hey!  I am evil, not twisted.  Wouldn't do that to my worst enemy .  Ok I actually like the Resident Evil movies..one reason Mila Jovovich.

I liked the Shadow Hound idea, but stuck with Mastiff for the upgrade.

Close... there's going to be more Dungeons and Dragons movies of the same quality as the existing two! (I'd say worse but that's not physically possible.)

How I wish they would make a decent DnD movie... so much potential...

I can't say much for the other one, but the one with Jeremy Irons in it is absolutely hilarious over how bad it is.

truth is, if they made the HOMM storyline with that level of goofball overacting, I would be inclined to give it a look... and if they included the cast of blackadder.

actually, if you think about it, the blackadder cast could work quite well in terms of HOMM story line. Rowan Atkinson as the scheming vizier who ends up joining nercopolis to gain power, Hugh Laurie as the good-natured but incompetent prince of haven, Brian blessed as a demonic overlord who came to earth to party on down, Stephen fry as the wise old sage of the academy...

but I digress.

Avirosb Now THAT is a beast! I know it would make me think twice before tangling with it.

Also, if you think these guys are dark and twisted, wait till I get to Inferno.

Inferno.  A town full of hate and rage that they are almost the living embodiment of flame.  Wanting to destroy everything, and raze it to the ground.  So how could they get any darker???

Core Units

Shapeless - Demons who 'die' actually are reformed for a short time as Shapeless.    Since demons are a violent bunch, this happens more often then you might imagine.  Shapeless look like twisted, putrid sacs of flesh..and are sport for other demons.

Subdaemon - The shapeless form is a temporary thing, after a couple hundred or so years (the more powerful the demon, the longer they remain a shapeless) they start the transformation back to the demon they started out as.  The subdaemon is the transitional form between shapeless and whichever demon they will eventually become.  Some demonic features like tails and horns can start to be seen.

Rebirth (need better name for the ability) While either Shapeless or Subdaemons are on the field any Elite or Champion unit that dies is 'reborn' as a Shapeless or Subdaemon.  If any shapeless are on the field they ALWAYS come back as shapeless.  This is at a 1 to 1 basis, and the units can be resurrected without reducing the number of Shapeless/Subdaemon.  (IE if a Succubus dies, you gain 1 Shapeless or Subdaemon).

Immunity to Fire Just what it sounds like

Barbellate - Demon that is pale white, looking almost as if made of bone, but with sharp barbs all over its body..except it's tail.  Vicious, and fearless..they will impale an enemy on its barbs.

Barbonte - Once matured a Barbellate develops an elongated tail that has razor sharp barbs on it.  They prefer to break off their tail in an opponent, which causes damage constantly to the enemy, but weakens the Barbonte.

Impale - When ever attacked or attacking, there is a chance the Barbellate/Barbonte will get 'stuck' to the enemy.  As long as they are adjacent, the demon will continue to attack that unit..and will also move with that unit.  Hero looses control of the demons.  When the enemy unit moves, the demon moves (if the enemy unit can move further then the demon, the demon will STILL go with them).  In addition to automatically attacking the enemy unit each time it's turn comes, when it is the enemy units turn..the enemy unit takes 1/4 damage from the barbs in it's flesh.  Only works on living creatures.  Will continue till one or the other of the two units is dead.

Fearless Fear effects, regardless from creatures/spells/etc do not work on the creature.

Tail Strike (Barbonte's only) Triggered ability 1x per combat - Breaks off the Barbonte's tail into an enemy unit.  Will not follow the unit around, but the enemy unit will take 1/4 damage per round for the remainder of combat..or until destroyed.  However, Barbonte attack is 1/2 for remainder of combat, and damage is reduced to same as Barbellates.

Elite Units
((Hmm this is better for an elite..so have to come up with a better core unit))
Hunger - Flying, Large Creature. A large blob of .. mouths.  Pretty much a blob with a bunch of mouths..and not much else. No noses, eyes, etc.

Devourer - Flying, Large Creature, Immune to Magic.  The teeth have been filed down, and the skin is violet. Thanks to constant exposure to chaotic magic, they develop a hunger for magic..and an immunity to it.

Consume - Can regenerate by feeding off the dead.

Armor Rend - Activated ability (1x combat)..along with a 1/2 damage attack the Hunger or Devourer can rend any armor (even natural ones) reducing the target's armor to 50% of normal for 3 combat turns.

Consume Magic (Devourer only) Enemy hero must spend 1 extra mana for every four they would normally spend to cast spells.  For every mana spent this way, Devourer regains 30 hit points (can even bring back Dead Devourers).

((To be continued))
