Amazonia - a fantasy faction for h6 expansions and beyond

                            Amazonia

This is a fantasy faction inspired by the ancient Greek- Roman mythology and the stories of their battles with Amazon warriors…..a fierce tribe of fighters which with an almost overwhelming female dominated society. In simple words, it’s like Spartans from ancient Greece only there’s hot women in armor wielding spears instead of the bada** men of Sparta.

Needless to say it’s a “fantasy faction” and I did not pay to much attention to actual history/folklore/myths/whatever u call it regarding actual Amazonian warriors…its inspired by them….that’s all. So please excuse me if there’s any deviation from the actual Amazons…I don’t intend to copy them.

Its obvious that this wont b in h6 or anywhere else, but if u people like it, how about a recommendation for the future homm games, eh?

Firstly, Amazonia is made on the H6 tier system that we are all familiar now:

3 core, 3 elite and 1 champion creature

Presenting my Core Amazonian units:

                                  Core 1

Gladiators and Deathmasks:

Gladiators:

Deathmasks:

Description:

In the female dominated warrior society of the Amazons, the men hold only meager positions, not worth of mention. Even then, some of the men are chosen among the lesser castes, especially slaves and prisoners from various battles that the Amazon conquered, to fill the ranks of the Gladiators. They spend their days and nights in arenas, training to death till their call to arms come. Their only purpose is to fight and if fate is such, die a glorious death. These men are considered to be expendable, front line troops by the Amazons, possessing great battle prowess, driven by their hunger for glorious freedom (or a higher rank) if they show exceptional merit in battle. These have one thing in mind when in battle “no pain, only gain”. After all, what more can a man lose who has already lost everything?

Abilities:

Close quarters: (basic and upgrade)

Intense training in melee warfare has made these warriors unparalleled in close combat. They have unlimited retaliation in melee while take additional damage from ranged/magical attacks.

Adrenaline rush: (Upgrade only)

Deathmasks thrive on the climax of battle, it’s the “kill or be killed” moments that give them that extra edge over the enemy. When the overall health of the stack drops to 50%, the Deathmasks gain an activated ability, which lets them attack twice for the next two turns. (the double attack is like the crusaders double slash, where the first slash is followed by an enemy melee retaliation, then followed by the second slash.)

                               Core 2

Javelinista – Spearmaiden

Javelinista:

Spearmaiden:

Description: The Amazonian warriors are renowned the world over for their exceptional skills with the spear and bow. It is said that the children are taught to throw small wooden spears at the tender age of 5. Be it myth or truth, the prowess of a well trained Amazon with spear in hand is evident in the thousands of dead enemies who have been “sheesh- kababed ” (like marshmallows on stick) in battle. Their only hindrance? Lack of armor. Then again, who needs armor against the enemy who is skewered by the 8 feet long sarissa (spear) lodged in his chest.

Abilities:

True Aim: (basic and upgrade)

The traditional weapon of choice by the Amazon warriors is long range weapons, especially the spear. Years of training and perfection has made the wielder and the weapon as one. This unit can attack an enemy at any range without incurring range penalties.

Polearm: (upgrade)

The long polearm weapon (sarissa) of Spearmaidens give them an added advantage when facing melee attacks, they can melee at a distance of three hexes, thanks to their long spears and superhuman agility). (much like halberdiers and pikemen from)

Blighted Spear: (upgrade)

The fierce vengeance of the Amazon against their enemies gives them pleasure in seeing their foes die a brutal, slow death. To that end, they have coated the tips of their spears with a mixture of the deadliest poison from the jungle around them. Adds poison damage per turn to the enemy. (Works like poison spell)

                               Core 3

Frenzied Wasp – Wasp Fiend

Wasp Fiend:

Description: The jungle is their home….the creatures within it, no matter how bizarre or terrible, are like their pets, obeying their whims as if its life depended on doing so. The Amazon warriors have learnt to use this to their advantage. They unleash swarms hellish wasps upon their foes, who not only suffer from fatal stings of these devils, but are in a state of shock and awe at the sight giant, ferocious wasps which are unbelievably hard to hit as well.

Abilities:

       Swarm: (basic and upgrade)

The sheer number and sight of these creatures are enough to cause the most focused of wizards to lose concentration. These units drain 2 mana points per turn from the hero.

Parry: (basic and upgrade)

While being unusually large for a wasp, they are abnormally agile. Maybe the company of Amazon warriors have made the wasps nimble like their commanders? Whatever the reason, an excellent hand eye co-ordination is needed to deal a blow to these beasts. Opponent has a 30% chance of missing the wasps on melee and 50% chance on ranged attacks. No penalties for magic users though).

Acid Stinger: (upgrade) (1 time use activated ability)

The fiend wasp gets its name from its hellish stinger which it can fire at an unsuspecting enemy at close range (4 hexes). To add, well, acid (instead of insult) to injury, these stingers are acidified, causing caustic damage of the worst kind. Stops healing the victim for the next turn.

Disorientation: (Upgrade)

The amazons in battle are a sight for sore eyes even for many experienced warriors. For those of virgin experience in combat, the encounter with a fiend wasp poses an equal discomfort as would a seasoned amazon in battle. The lesser ranked units (with defense = average core 1 and core 2 levels) stand to lose a turn 25% of the time they are faced with Wasp Fiends.

Presenting my 3 Elites:

                                  Elite 1

Sabertooth – Hellcat

(both accompanied by their handlers – the beastmistress. She doesn’t  ride the creature. She stands by on the sidelines of battlefield, much like the hero. She cannot attack or be attacked. She takes her life when the last creature of the stack dies.)

Sabertooth:

Hellcat:

Description:

The amazon society holds the creatures of the jungle in high regard, unlike their men. Of these creatures the fearsome Sabertooth tigers are long standing allies of the amazon, standing side by side in countless battles. They have a mutual respect and admiration for each other. Many tales tell of how sabertooth cubs and amazon children are raised together in their infancy, to become beast and beast-mistress in the future. The sabertooth are looked upon as the amazon’s children, and the beasts repay the kindness in battle.

Abilities:

Mighty Roar: (basic and upgrade) (Activated one time ability)

It is often said that while in battle with sabertooth tigers, their attack is preceeded by thunderclap. Sounds odd? Not the storyteller’s fault. In truth, the unearthly growl of a charging sabertooth mimics that of the loudest thunderclap, hence the mistake. Such roar causes enemies to suffer a penalty to defense while it raises the morale of surrounding troops (allies positioned within 2 hexes of the sabertooth in all directions receive a morale bonus of +1).

Mother’s Touch: (Basic and upgrade) (activated one time ability)

The amazon beastmistress commanding the sabertooth share a symbiotic relationship, to their deaths. They amazon depends upon the beast and the beast upon its commander or “mother” for its survival. Once every battle, the beastmistress can heal or resurrect 15 % of total health lost to the creature stack.

Pounce, pound and return: (Upgrade only)

The Elite and rarer sabertooth, the hellcat, has been extensively trained by its handler to perform extraordinary feats in battle. Such a feat which has been most feared by the opponents involves a move where the hellcat covers a distance of three hexes in one jump, lands to pound and tear away at the target and in a lighting quick move, returns to its original position. (much like strike and return of harpies).

                                Elite 2

Myrkridia – Ancient Myrkridia
(borrowed straight from Myth series by bungie)

Ancient myrkridia (look at the human skull size compared to the beast)

Description:

Deep within the jungles of the amazon homeland, there are areas which not even the seasoned amazon warrior dares to venture. Such areas are usually avoided at all costs, expect during times of dire need. There lurks a beast of untold horror, even feared by the amazon themselves, the Myrkridia. Legend has it that the myrkridia are a mutated race, driven to extinction by the expansion of men (haven and other humanoid factions). Their race is sought out and slaughtered for the sheer evil aura that surrounds them. “Devil’s incarnate”, they are called by the faithful. These beasts took shelter in the amazon homeland about a hundred years ago, in the deep bowels of the swampy jungle. Upon discovery by the amazon, they agreed to serve the fierce warrior tribe in battle in exchange for the chance to live in only specified areas of the jungle (mainly the marshland, known now as dire marshes). Thus, an uneasy friendship between these two races came to being. The amazon are ever watchful in battle against these fiends, as they are known to go berserk when wounded severely, attacking friend and foe alike with demonic ferocity. One weakness though, probably one for which they respect the amazon so much, lack of armor and sheer size makes them vulnerable to ranged attacks.

Abilities:

Horror: (basic and upgrade)

The sight of a myrkridia charging in battle is a scene out of the worst nightmare in any warrior’s view. The opponent they attack first will suffer a penaly to morale of  -1 and cannot retaliate against the first attack.

Berserk: (basic)

The younger myrkridia are more ferocious and have less control over their blinding rage, and will turn to strike anybody at random, be it a nearby friend or foe if the total health is down to 25% of total.

Bloodlust: (upgrade)

Ancient myrkridia are scourge upon the earth, and the lucky few who have lived to tell the tale of and encounter with such beings describe with horror the bloodlust eyes of these fiends. They say that those dreadful bloodshot eyes show a way to hell for all those who have the misfortune of gazing at them. Bloodlust acts the same way as the bloodlust spell (cast by ogre mages and heroes) in earlier homm games.

Shred: (upgrade)

The burning hate for all their enemies is horrifyingly clear in the attack of ancient myrkrida. Their unrelenting melee attacks leave not even the slightest flesh on bone for the victim. The thickest armor does little to stop their diamond like claws from rending flesh from bone. When ancient myrkridia attack, opponent receives a 50% penalty to base defense [defense that is inherent to the creature, not the magically buffed defense(if any is active) ]

Racial ability: Hates humanoid aligned (haven, sylvan, wizard, dwarf) factions and creature. +50% damage against units from these factions.

Myrkridia finishing up enemy:

                               Elite 3

Occultist – Matriarch

Matriarch:

Description:

For all their glories in battle and fearsome reputation, the amazon have seriously lagged behind in wizardry or use of magic. Atleast that’s what the outsiders think. Although quite rare in such a warrior like society, the use of magic has been kept a well guarded practice by its keepers. The reason? Certain summoning spells that is too precious for the amazon to lose in the hands of other races. Thus, they limit magic practitioners altogether.

Abilities:

Bane of the jungle: (Spell, uses 6 mana points) (basic and upgrade)

A spell that slows the enemy by -2 points to speed and causes poison damage per turn.

Mother nature’s blessings: (normal bless spell for basic and mass bless for upgrade) (spell, uses 5 mana for basic and 10 for upgrade)

Casts a bless spell that acts like a normal bless spell (max damage) and raises speed by +1.

Nature’s gift: (upgrade)

Allied hero receives +10 mana points for every 20 creature (matriarch). (thus, 1 creature gives 0.50 mana points.)

Summon guardians: (basic) (spell, 20 mana points) (health and hence number of creatures summoned is equal to 1/3 hp of total occultist hp)

Summons a lava anaconda. It has strong melee abilities and core 3 level health.
Special attack: Demonic grasp (activated, 1 time use) (the snake entangles the target like anaconda’s do and squeezes the life out of it, causes double damage.)

Lava anaconda:

Summon guardians: (upgrade only) (spell, costs 30 mana points) (health and hence number of creatures summoned is equal to 1/3 hp of total matriarch hp)

Summons a Deimos, a fabled creature born from the twisted experiments of the matriarch. It is equal to an elite 2 level creature in attack and defense.
Special attack: Impaling blindness (activated, 1 time use) The head and tail of the beast attack at together to cause double damage and blindness to any creature other than a champion level creature.)

Deimos: showing impaling blindness

Note:

Will post champion creature tomorrow. Do let me know ur thoughts. like i said, totally open for ideas, improvements and suggestions.

I tried to incorporate some uncommon creatures....keeping the amazon theme in mind. also tried to reduce humanoid creatures, included more beasties in the lineup.

This faction is a true neutral aligned faction. they got nothing to do with the whole good vs. evil theme, much like the orcs. they mind their own business and try to keep a balance in their own ways.

is it based on amazon, the big rain forest?

because the big rain forest is called Amazonia, so the faction could be called something else... ok, I don't have good alternatives, but it should be something in the lines of the current names, I mean: Haven, Inferno, Necropolis. Could be Tribe, Ziggurat or something.

@maken

yes it is roughly based on the amazon jungle and "fantasy" creatures based within it. further use of the name amazonia comes from the fact that the faction is inspired by the amazon warriors, a female dominated warrior society. As the theme comes both from jungle and female warriors (amazons), I named it amazonia.

@valen-teen

no urban elements are present in the faction, in fact its anything but urban .any other ideas?

The final creature (the champion) will be posted later today. hows the creature line up so far ppl? Awaiting suggestions and views and comments on creatures or/and their abilities....

What about "Cromlech"? It could make reference to a very rudimentary building deep in the jungle around which uncivilized beasts meet due to its ancient magic nature.
