The watchmen enjoyed the spring. The mood was nice, the weather was bright, and there was this sound in the air of ice melting. A sort of idealistic spring day.
And yet in the horizon comes another of the strangers, hopefully invited like the rest of them. He carries a strange spearlike weapon, and he walks in a constant tempo over the everchanging terrain.
He was finaly getting close to the gate.
One of the watchmen shouted: "Are you here for our shaman?"
"I may be, if this where Taruss the Chanter and Domerth of Kunn can be found, whom words have been spreading quite far about?"
"They are indeed." The watchmen signalized for the gate to be opened, and the lone wanderer walked straight in with his walking stick.
He got pointed towards the large outdoor table, where meals was being eaten and ale consumed. He did the standard greetings, told his name(Nordskib Dromlaus), sat down and joined the chat. And dragged out a fenalaar from his sleeve, and unwrapped it. Hoping that the common tradition around here was still to share when you joined a strangers table over a friendly chat.
And he hoped there would not be anyone familiar with the scalds retelling, it was always a point that his looks was exaggerated, he was not a beauty but looked quite plain like another common man. He joined the table as the man with the strange gear left. He had to ask: "Was that the rumored Dwarf hunter?"

- Your belongings will be safe inside the house.- Said Domerth. - Omutt, I heard that your farmstead had been attacked.
- Yes. The Shakk came after they raided Chall.- He spoke for the first time during the dinner.- I managed to drove them off, but there was nothing I could do to save my home and barn. They burned to the ground.
- I see. Why don't you settle here in Kunn now?- Domerth asked
- I'll think about it. Thanks for the offer.
- Yes Nordskib, that's the famous Dwarfhunter allright.- Said Taruss.- I think that our quest will help him prove his theories.

Heila was rather impressed and intimidated by the large amount of legendary warriors and heroes that had converged on this one spot. She began to wonder if Rhain was really one to be with this group. After all, Rhain was a lonely hermit, and only ever came to the nearby village to sell fish and pick up some other supplies once a month. Heila shook her head and told herself that Rhain is surely worthy of being with them. He did things with that staff that she never had thought possible. After all, one that could stand on the end of the staff with one foot and keep complete focus and balance must surely be one of great power.

Heila accepted a bowl of food and ate, as she was very hungry.

Guess Who is Back?

Gazing up on the sun on this fine spring day, Thorald had to gnash his teeth. This day was not at all a good day to start an adventure. To little drama! He would have to change that when he wrote this down along with his other adventures.
Even with the weather being what it was, Thorald had to be on his way, because normal folks would of course not consider waiting until the weather got more dramatic before setting out on this adventure, and this could become the greatest one as of yet.

After having walked for most of the day, Thorald finally reached the village. Looking up at the watchmen he held up his hands to show that he came in peace before he shouted "I HEAR THAT THIS WHERE THEY HAVE FOUND THE LOCATION OF THE TOME OF THE SEVENTY ARTS! I, THORALD THARALDSON, SLAYER OF TROLLS, KILLERS OF MEN, WISEST OF SHAMANS, SAVIOURS OF LITTLE KITTENS STUCK IN TREES, WIELDER OF TH-" before he could finish the gate opened up. Thorald looked at the gate in shock, before looking up at the guards again "NO! NO! NONO! NO! YOU ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO OPEN THE GATE BEFORE AFTER I'VE FINISHED MY INTRODUCTION! NOW CLOSE THE DAMN GATE AND GIVE ME A DO-OVER!"
The guards shaked their heads "If you want to join, then you want to join! But you either go though the gate now or you can go back to wherever you came from!" the guard shouted and Thorald muttered something under his breath before proceeding through the gate, where he was met by another guard who showed him the way to the chieftains hut.
"Hail and well met!" Thorald said and raised his hand in greetings towards the chief "I hear that this where you have found the location of the tome of the seventy arts!"

((Everytime I read 'The Tome of the Seventy Arts' I keep imaging a dance-instruction book...))

- Hail Thorald!- Domerth rose up and gestured to take a seat.- The chief isn't here right now. I'm the next in line, so you can speak with me.
- Come to think of it, where is Dementij?- Asked Bograd.- I haven't seen him all day.
- Must be near his beehives. Father said that he'll go to pick the first honey today.- Replied Domerth.
- Really? I thought that he'll join us for a meal.
- You know him. Loses track of time when he's working. He wants to give the title of chieftain to me before we leave.
- I see. The old chief wants to hand over the responsibilities to the younger.
- And live the rest of my days caring of my bees and raising grandchildren.- a lively yet old voice said. Dementij was of strong build and bore the same tattoos that Domerth had. Age had dyed his hair with silver, but was unable to erase the marks of the life of a warrior. Many scars covered his body. For each he had a story to tell. He carried his beekeeper's tools and a large pot full of honey. He put the pot on the table and sat by Bograd.
- Fresh from the hive. Tastes great. I see we have quite a few famous faces. Taruss's planned adventure had brought the attention of many I see. I even saw the Dwarfhunter walking around. Also, Omutt, Vulkan said that your mace is fixed. He said that he'll drop it by in the evening. Are we expecting any more guests?
- No, I believe that's all who are interested- Taruss said.- We'll hold the council in the evening.

A minor side-effect of his many travels was that Snorbald grew restless if he did not walk for the majority of the day. And so he took to walking throught the village and the surrounding fields. Greeting the villagers along the way, Snorbald had to think of his own clan. He had not visited them for over three years. But traveling for so many years, Snorbald had come down with an isatiable wanderlust. Villages felt enclosing to him and he could not bring himself to stay in any given village for more than a few days. Even his own Clan-village, though he usually was able to stay there for over a week. No, Snorbald preferred the woods, plains and swamps to habitation.
Snorbald paced on and neared the edge of the woods. He stayed near the edge, keeping the village in sight. Getting lost was nothing new to Snorbald. In his long search for the Dwarves, he had gotten lost often folloring rumours and stories. But now was not the time.
Suddenly Snorbald halted. There was a faint smell, a sound in the undergrowth, that caught his attention. Snorbald sniffed the air. The smell was unmistakable. Carefully and slowly Snorbald took out his axe from the holder on his back, his sword hung still in it's ring on his belt. Carefully not to move to much, he shifted his grip on his axe. Then is a sudden jerk, Snorbald flung his axe into the undergrowth. Whatever was in the bushes squealed and Snorbald dove in with his sword in his hand.
He did not need to. The axe had burried itself deep into the skull of an adolescant boar. Snorbald tugged the axe out and let the blood and brains drip off. No blood or gore ever managed to stain his Dwarf-craft weapons.
Snorbald did not doubt that the boar was dead. His axe nearly cleaved it's skull in half and it would have split it entirely if he had managed to throw it harder. Snorbald tested the weight of the animal and then lifted it onto his shoulder. Carrying this back to the village would take even more walk out of his legs. So he turned and walked back.

"So we have about five hours to cause some mischeif, eh? I wonder if the spring market is still going on here..."  Joshua drained the last of his drink and walked out of the hut. Same with the back market he added silently to himself.

He walked into the market square and began to peruse the shops, going from stands that offered rare meats and drinks to others that sold jewls of great worth. A ring from one such shop seemed to... Disappear as he talked to its owner, who had been bragging that, "My eyes catch everyth'ng! If you manage to take one of my wares without my noticin' it, then it's half price!" Joshua held up the small ring, inset with onix and rubies, set into finely a crafted silver loop.

"I think that this means I get it for half price, right oh lord of the hawk eyed?" He asked sarcasticly. The shop-keep had just stared at him with surprise. Joshua put the money on the table. "A little less pride next time, friend." Joshua moved around the market in this way, haggling and generally paying less for everything that he wanted or needed. The finest thing that he found was a black recurved bow said to have been made of the "Finest oak and yew." He had paid only a fraction of its price.

Noting that his time was almost up, Joshua wandered back to the hut, spotting Snorbald making his way back as well. "Ho, dwarf hunter! Has today been fruitful for hunting?"

"Why do you like talking so much?" Joshua muttered.

"Quiet you." He mumbled back.

Thorald nodded and sat down at an open spot. He then helped himself to the beverage and food before the chieftain arrived, then Thorald looked up and once again said "Hail!" before continue to eat in peace. While eating he overheard them saying that the council would start in the evening. After hearing this Thorald looked up, swallowed the food he had in his mouth before asking "We have a bit of spare time before the big revelation then? Good. Been awhile since I was in a village, seven days I believe, anything new happening around here?"

Vishan looked at Heila.
- You're from Prohna too aren't you? I remember you talking to the hermit who lives by the river. What had you made travel to Kunn? The Black Grove isn't very safe these days. Fiends are running loose, even at day.- He said.
- There isn't much news around here. We're having some skirmishes with some Shakk raiders near the smaller villages. Also there been trouble caused by some fiends. We lost a few cows from the heard, until I placed a ward on the field.- Taruss chuckled.- we worked for about three days untill we crafted that one.
- A very hideous scarecrow than a ward. But it gets the job done. The imps a terrified of it- Said Domerth

Allmoor had received directions to the chieftain's home.

Snorbald noticed the person greeting him. He assumed it was a man, but he certainly had a girlish figure. It contrasted to the bulk most men had, Snorbald himself among them.
"Greetings. I cannot complain, as you can see." Snorbald said as he hefted the boar to a more comfortable position on his shoulder.
"Especially if you think I wasn't actually hunting and just taking a walk. I am certain that this boar will compensate my stay with the Chieftain."
Snorbald walked towards the Chieftain's house. The crowd gathered there had gotten bigger.
"Are you in town for the market, Stranger? Or are you to take part in the Shaman's search?"

Heila replied, "It is on the way to where my parents live. I am go live with them for a time. However, I have stopped here because of the hermit. There is much more to him than what most think. He is not a mere fisherman, but a powerful warrior as well. I also think he may have one of the greatswords that were crafted by Barash, although he seems to prefer his staff. That is why I have come here, to speak on his behalf. He does not believe things until he sees them with his own eyes. Such is the way of the hermit."

"A hermit ey?" Thorald laughed "Yes! Those hermit fellows usually are more than they seem to be, whether they are ancient monsters, cursed magicians or warriors of old trapped in an immortal body. No matter, if you got a hermit on your side you can be damn sure he will be useful at some point. Heh. I once traveled with this one guy, was a hermit, useless as hell I first thought. Cold not lift a sword and had was an amateur with magic. Then we found our goal, some ancient treasure locked behind some huge metal gate. Problem was, we did not have the key and the gate as to large to break, made of metal as I said. We sat there for days trying to solve the riddle that was written on the gate. Finally, after three days we were just about ready to give up when the hermit finally understood the riddle and answered it! Turns out the riddle gave the location of a key, which conicidentaly, the hermit had been carrying with him all along! HAHA! After that I would never doubt that hermits would become useful at some point no matter what impression you get at first!" Thorald started to drink some more "So if there is a hermit nearby we better recruit him! Even if we got to drag him with us after his tonails!"

- We only use hardened leather armor mostly.- Said Domerth.- But if you know his size, I think that Vulkan, our smith and armorer, may have something for him. Oh, and hear he comes now.- he waved to a bearded man of stout build and small stature, wearing a brown apron and an eye patch carrying a large oaken mace outfitted with iron spikes. It was way to big for him to wield in combat. He greeted the company and gave the weapon to Omutt. He thankfully nodded.
- Vulkan, before you go, this girl wants to get some armor for her friend who couldn't join us here today. Can you help her?- Domerth asked
- Aye. Drop by by me smithy later, I'll think we'll find something.- The old blacksmith said.

Nordskib spent pretty much the rest of the day attempting to find a some place that sold solid woodwork, he would need 2-3 spares if they journey became hard.
And it was the same as usual: Carpenters and fortification planners pointing out their suppliers, who was in town, and a quality check, which ran in circles for a few hours. In the end he had managed to get 3 dubious tree types which seemed to have decent quality, and bought a wellformed stick for each of them. Hopyfully they would have a sled or a wagon of some sort, since they apparently had some lord and his men with them.
In the end, it was not a that productive day.

"Well, friend. I'm here to join in with the shaman, I just never could pass up the opportunity to visit a spring market, especially not at night when the magicians and other performers come out." Joshua looked down at his new attire (On top of his black jacket and red under-shirt he had quite a few do-dads and trinkets. He also had that ring from before, and the bow across his back). "I may or may not have gotten carried away."

To the crowd in front of the Chieftain's house, he yelled, "Emissaries for the chieftain coming through! Move or be moved!" He messed up his face a little. "Now that was a bit rude, I guess..."

"Watch and learn, youngling." Snorbald said smiling under his beard, indicating the crowd.
"Coming through!" Snorbald rumbled. And the crowd parted to let them through.
"Greetings, Chieftain." Snorbald greeted the Chieftain, who was easily recognisable as the father of both Domerth and Taruss. "Please accept this modest offering as my thanks for your hospitality." And with that, Snorbald hefted the dead boar onto an empty table.
