Question about these portraits

I dont know what's wrong with these portraits. Large is 58x64, small is 48x32 and they both are .pcx. They are also named correctly and I put them into my Data folder. But still there is some kind of error - in game or in editor whole portrait is white. Any ideas?

The files need to be 256 colors. If you don't have a sufficient method of doing so without atrocious color-loss, let me know and I can convert them for you.

Could you share with us knowledge about how do you do that? Making good portraits always was a very hard job, atleast for me...

Sure.

If you're using Photoshop, it's Image >> Mode >> Indexed Color..

It should say 256 already, so just press OK and save the file.

If you don't have Photoshop but use Gimp, the principle should be similar, but unfortunately I don't use Gimp so I can't say for sure. Sorry.

What I do know is that MSPaint alone won't cut it. Saving files from a 24-bit BMP/PNG format to a 256 BMP file is palette suicide. You'll get some hideous color loss. Unlike Photoshop it doesn't dynamically conform to existing colors in your image.

Ok, I'll simply type in google "256 colors converting gimp".

Well, the problem is that I'm making a mod based on already existing game, and it would be better if I'd make portraits straight from ingame images...

Hope it works out for you...

Question, what game are you basing your mod off of out of interest?
