Ubisoft's Griffin Fetish: Love it or Hate it?
I've noticed that ever since Heroes V was released, it seems that Ubisoft has grown to have a fetish with the beast. Why is that? I don't get it. They're kind of boring, to be honest. They're a lion and an eagle: Big deal.
But we get all this... Griffin Empire, "Griffin Eternal!" stuff.
And as the likable producer for Heroes VI, Mr. Le Breton has stated as an opening line for the new Q&A about the reputation system, "You were born a Griffin! The story of your life is yours to write, but choose your ink wisely." I, for one, happen to enjoy the depth that Black Hole and Ubisoft have gone to craft their own mythology for the series (despite my own personal wish that the old universe be continued... but that's another issue), but the Griffin obsession is a bit... much in my opinion.
Let's not neglect to recall the status of the Griffin unit in Heroes V; now a Level 4 creature, with an ARMORED upgrade and new potentially devastating "Battle Dive/Rush Dive" (respective of your upgrade choice, of course). Given their predisposition to retaliate endlessly, in addition to their obscenely high initiative, I feel like there's a bit of... Griffin overdose, if you ask me.

It's called the (Holy) Griffin Empire because of some dude who happened to have Griffin as a surname, right? So when people say "Griffin Eternal", are they basically worshipping that guy or something? I thought that the dragons were gods in this setting.
I think Griffins fit as a castle/human/haven unit.
The Griffin used to be a heraldic symbol back in the old days.

The griffin was a big symbol in older heroes games, with the Gryphonheart thing (IK it was spelled different) I've always seen griffins as a key part of the good factions and the haven castle identity.I don't see why them using at a symbol is so bad (although griffin eternal every cutscene was annoying.)

Also at the time of HoMMVI it's still called the FALCON EMPIRE.
And by the end of HoMMV (sorry to remind you all) it became the *snort* Unicorn *snicker* Empire.
Anyway other then Griffins being a faction symbol (like they were in HIII by the way) they only menifest in the game as creatures, a battle cry and the name of an empire.
So I don't see your point, at all.
(Don't get me wrong, Unicorns are cool an all... but somehow the name Unicorn Empire conjures the image of a pink castle populated by elves and my-little-pony.)

(Or Manticores, or Beautiful Medusas...)
Edit: "On-topic"- I see no problem with all theses Griffins, they fit with the general boring theme of Haven anyway. I'm just glad they're "worshiping" the Griffins instead of let say... Dwarfs.

Griffons are boring and overused.
Sadly they do have a history in Heroes, but they overdid it in Ashan worldpicture but then who want a unicorn empire? - snow faries and little gnomes running around.. yay!!

The thing is, griffins and unicorns are natural creatures.
Rakshasha are an abomination brough about by mages toying with nature. This they can never be holy.
