Geez, lay the medusa whining to rest already. The fact that Elvin already said that medusas might make an appearance must have passed you all by. Besides, wouldnŽt it be even stranger if they would had decided on a naga faction with snake people, not given the pearl maiden snake hair (come on, it fits like a glove if you se past the medusa whine), and then included a medusa in an expansion. Since medusas would have snake tails as well the creatures would just collide and crave a lore connection to even work. Sure, they could have named the pearl maiden medusa (or gorgon) but that doesnŽt fit the theme of the faction at all since medusas are evil creatures.

When the day comes and medusas are included (perhaps as a unit in dungeon) iŽll bet that it will be some sort of corrupted naga, or nagas that follow the dragon god of darkness instead. With a nice lore explanation.

Yeah I'm beginning to get the idea after the first 20 times or so. I should start deleting all those superfluous posts..

Oh really? Well I like the Sanctuary AND the Medusa creature!  Take that Elvin!

Back on track - Ubisoft can make up whatever story they want, especially since its their game and the creatures aren't real to begin with.  I could see complaining if they had a big bear called "tiger", but that's not the case.

I think at this point I'm mostly anxious to see the town screens and their music, including the Sanctuary's.  I like Homm5 (except for the AI), but the 3d towns stunk to me.  After playing homm3 recently I remembered why I liked those town screens & music so much!  Heroes 6 has an opportunity to create some really amazing town screens, so I can't wait to see that.

And a slight retexture/palette swap

If Properkheldar is right then I foresee even more whinning because the Medusa and Coral Maiden would look alike too much for many people here, since both will have a snake tail and hair. Brace yourselves...

What really makes me wonder is, didn't Ubi/BH know that people aren't going to like those designs? I mean, I like them and all, but if it was me making the decisions, I would have scrapped them because it is painfully obvious how many people would hate them.

If they didn't know that, then well... To put it kindly, they're blind. And maybe one would argue that there's no pleasing some people and definitely all people, all the time. Yeah, I know, no matter which design they will come up with, some are bound not to like it. But come on, when you reveal a Medusa-like creature and say it's not a Medusa, well, you know you got a thing coming.

Oh why do I care anyway? I like the Sanctuary faction's line-up, and I play the game for me, not for others.

Just making a point, I suppose...

You have just been exposed too the altar too much Seriously why wouldn't someone want a medusa incarnation returning even if with a different background. If you ask me it's this that doesn't make sense.

I don't know, I get a bad case of nerdrage when someone reminds me of Town Windows. Like you said once, as fans of the series, we're very touch-me-not's. People like some iconic monsters of the series too much, I suppose, and they don't see them returning but they got those wanna-be's instead. Well, that's their point of view, I suppose, and it makes them angry. I can totally understand where they're coming from. Ubi should be able to understand this either, shouldn't they?

Not that I blame Ubi, personally. Really now, my only complain on the designs, is that they could do with a little more colouring. Aaaaand maybe one more Naga, I think two are too few.

hmmm, Medusa or Gorgon can be placed anywhere. Just like Harpies kidnapped from dungeon to stronghold. Or Glory and Water Maiden/Spirit from Conflux.

Or Kenshi/Kensei to Sanctuary from Tower

Lol, this is my exact problem with the Coral maiden.

That they made a Medusa clone in the faction, that isn't a medusa! If they wanted a snakehaired naga, they should just have made a medusa from the start and not make something less original (generic naga caster). I love the idea that they would turn people to coral instead of stone, but nope we're going to ruin a great creature and make our own, more boring version of it.

The coral maiden could have been really cool, if they dared to make it ore like a real medusa with an aquatic twist. And perhaps make it a little bit more sinister-looking, Sanctuary looks to cuddly and sweet to me with some exceptions such as the awesome Kenshi guy.

The coral maiden is a very minor issue though compared to the town windows, which is HUGE to me, and to a lesser extent the super boring possible water elemental clone Spring spirit, which should either be core or not in the Sanctuary at all.

Oh well, maybe I will love  the Coral maiden and Spring spirits abilities and role on the battlefield... MAYBE.

Wtf? They've made a Medusa clone but it's called Coral Maiden so it's not a Medusa??? O_O

Dude, you can call a duck a "goose", but that won't change that it's essentially, a duck

Dude, you can call a wyvern a "pao kai", but that won't change that it's a fricking wyvern

Dude, you can call Survivor: Samoa "the best season of Survivor all" you want, but that won't change the fact it's actually the worst.

ETC..

If it is a medusa clone, then it *IS* a fricking medusa, no matter how they name it, because that means they BASED it on the medusa. If this "Coral Maiden" is a new find which, despite it's obvious resemblance to the medusa, has been created from another being, then it is *not* a frickin' medusa.

end of story. Jeezes.

All creatures looked cuddly and sweet in Heroes 1 and 2, which for me is partly what gave it its charm. The series has begun to take itself too seriously, if you ask me.

"Medusa" is merely a label we use to describe a snake-haired monstrous creature whose gaze can turn onlookers to stone, not the creature itself. People quite often confuse the thing with the label (even Plato did).

It is a Medusa clone in that it has a serpentine body and snake-hair but the clone is WORSE than the true Medusa because she looks like a daycare lady and she can't turn people to stone, which is why I wrote that it is sad that they made a downgraded version of the Medusa when they could easily have made an aquatic version which turned creatures into like coral instead of stone.

For me all of them. It's the drawing style I guess, though I don't exclude the possibility that my cuddliness evaluation-module might not be the most reliable around.

The Coral Maiden is a Medusa in the same way that a Wolf is a Hell-Hound, ie, it looks similar, but I've never seen anything that says we should judge a creature just by its looks. I've also seen nothing suggesting that Medusa traditionally had a serpentine lower body, and indeed this pediment sculpture from the Temple of Artemis in Corfu would suggest that she didn't have a serpentine lower body.

Let us not get tangled up in words, shall we? As I said, "Medusa" is simply a label we (or, rather, I) apply to a creature who has all the following characteristics:

- snake-haired
- monstrous
- its gaze can turn onlookers to stone

It may or may not have a serpentine body. As MattII wrote, some envisioned her as entirely humanoid. Since the Sanctuary creature does not have all three characteristics, we cannot use the label "Medusa" to describe it. Unless you disagree about the three characteristics I listed, that is.

dude, Sanctuary, really?

Where the hell are Black Dragons, Titans, Genies, Elves, Dwarfs?

I dont like how Sanctuary looks in comparison with necromancers.. sanctuary looks so cheap

I could live with a faction similar to HoMaM II Sorcerers, Tower from III...
