Ummm. Well, to be honest I prefer this one to the H3 one. This one is a mess but the other is worse imho.

Well I guess it's a matter of taste also. I think the H3 one is much more structured and ... well, I don't quite know how to put it into words, but the new one has buildings all over the place, there is no place where your eyes can find rest, no focal point; whereas in the H3 one you would always look to the firelake first, and then there were some clear lines, a vertical one along the fire river up to the palace, and a horizontal one which is very dominant with the Mage Guild, Devil building, Castle and City Hall, which really makes the picture very "balanced".

aren't demons supposed to be very "chaotic" here? Make sense in that way as they just build snow.

On other towns, I will agree with Alci's statement; town screens need some focus and order. This is currently lacking, especially in Necropolis. That's why I like the old (unfinished) Necropolis more. It showed order to the extreme. Square buildings, neat roads, etc. The present Necropolis is too un-order-ly for a faction that teach uniformity. The second most-orderly should be Haven. Sanctuary and Stronghold should fall between orderly and naturally chaotic.

Now, on Inferno, this un-order-lyness is fit their theme : chaos. It is nice to see eyes, blobs, spikes everywhere In fact, I find that the building on the right-upper part of the screen is too orderly, and does not mesh well with the "island" it supposed built on.

Well, at first I found it odd, but after thinking about, I like the small amount of order. Reason being, is that if it was all chaos, then it would be almost UNIFORM chaos. Which is just another thing of order anyways. So, having the few strokes of order here and there accentuates the chaotic nature of the town as a whole, as it looks more mismatched, and there more has more chaos, then if it was all eyes and globs. At least, that's how I see it...

Well my issue with H3 inferno is more with the building design, I mean like, I feel like they look like a mix match that doesnt go together. Which makes sense, cause iirc not all the inferno creatures were Kreegans, but I still didnt like it. And the Deity of Fire looked so wut? I prefer the H4/5/6 inferno grail buildings tbh.

Anyway. My H6 town screens order

Sactuary
Stronghold
Inferno
Necropolis

Heaven.

The only thing that looks awkward in Sanct. TS is the cave-looking things in the background. Stronghold is technically better than Snct. but I prefer the former aesthetic. Inferno, Necro and Heaven have some "perspective" issues but in case of inferno it fits and in Necro it isnt that bad. Heaven really looks like a mess.

You can picture "chaotic" and still make a picture that follows the general rules on how to construct an image.

I'll jump on the "this is the best Inferno town screen/best H6 town screen" train too.

Why, this town screen is the most beautiful sight on H6 so far and hands down, one of the best town screens ever made for the entire series. Easily my favorite.

Me too, loving the inferno town screen look. Especially the early one, it really feels like you are in the depths of hell with the lava, dark smoky background, levels of ground suspended above the fire depths....
The final screenshot does look too busy for the eye, but remember it will take a while to build a town to it's fullest, so should be ample time to get used to it as you build along each day....

Deity of Fire was awesome, shut up <>

Meh, levitating rocks, organic buildings...standard fantasy fare.
Hardly worth complaining about,
apart from the usual scale/shadow/perspective issues.

That light cathedral thingie is kinda cool I guess...?

I find Inferno screen really good, overall. The style of this faction is more surreal than hard fantasy, but let's get over it. It's consitent, but also visually impressive.

Two things I don't like is the yellow building looking a bit out of palette and the possibility that designer is on drugs.

If anything, the town screens reminds me more of H4 than H3.
They haven't exactly gone out of their way to integrate the buildings into the environment.
That motherbreederwhatever blob of a dwelling just scream wasted potential.

I actually like the yellow cathedral....it gives a different look to all the eye-bobbing root-like buildings....

For Inferno, I actually agree with that. It does have very much the H4 way of laying buildings out so they are evenly distributed all over the screen with no sense of overall structure or environment.

Now that all screens are out, here are my 2 cents:

While i still consider them to be worse than H3 ones (mainly due to having uniform color theme which makes all screens blander - i preferred the more colorful approach of H3 ones) - they are nice improvement over current town windows, and also managed to keep the visual theme similar enough to the on-map view so it doesn't look like you are upgrading 2 different things at once.
Also, I'm awaiting to see the animation on those screens - I'm sure it will give them much more credit than still picture can.

Yeah, those dragons were (and are) one of little things that make Rampart's my favorite town screen. I hope H6 town screens also have these little things to make the screens more alive.

@esvath :

5. We’re happy to know that the townscreens are in development. It’s good to have interactivity and to finally see all the buildings, but will there be some additional environment effects (like weather) or animations for buildings to make the scene look lively?

Answer : While the town screens will be 2D (our benchmark are the Heroes III town screens), they will be animated. There will indeed be atmospheric and visual effects such as creatures flying, particles and other stuff that will add a touch of life to these grandiose vistas.

Animations would be cool, but watch the screens take forever to load now......

Oops! Don't want to go down this road again (reason for town window)

Animations are a certain thing. They have been confirmed quite some time ago. It will be mostly in the Heroes III fashion, with things shimmering and things flying around. But there is no doubt that they will be there.
